I'm hoping Kousei is able to accompany Kaori well enough. He was really awesome in the cafe, and this could make or break his future as a musician (although it's pretty obvious what's going to happen here, let's be honest). Is that the cat from the OP? Is it going to be a recurring character? I vote yes. It was funny seeing Kaori chase after Kousei and convince Tsubaki to join her cause. Though... I feel like they killed a few too many trees just to get someone to join their cause like that. Somehow, Kousei getting the shit beaten out of him hasn't gotten old yet. Next episode sounds like a lot of fun, so I can't wait.

Aw, the only difference with his black cat was that it had green eyes. The stray has blue eyes. I like how they draw them with such big ears, it's super cute.

101 in how NOT to approach a person with a deep trauma. Seriously, if this series were realistic enough, the decision of having Kousei playing the piano again in front of a multitude would only affect him and his psyche in a quite negative way.

Also, I'm not enjoying in the slightest the amount of abuse MC is receiving. The idea of using such trope for the sake of comedy is really lame, being honest.

So far, this so famous anime isn't leaving a really good first impression.

Don't like any of the characters but especially Kaori with her being such a selfish, violent bitch and Kousei just taking all the abuse. Also Kaori seems to have too many sudden personality changes. But I'm interested in seeing how the next episode plays out.

I want to know what it is,

Kousei coming out of the shade of the school to the light to accept Kaori's request to be her accompanist, very beautiful I must say.

This story ain't gonna end well is it, with the Kaori going to the hospital flag risen

The crying somehow felt unnecessary, but besides that, it was a good video. I still don't know what will happen between these 4 because in the opening (which is 10/10) the girl is crying so who knows.

What was otherwise a great episode in terms of Kousei overcoming his barrier was slightly ruined by typical shounen animation (the short burst of rage when their friends came up on the rooftop). It wasn't funny nor needed and ruined an emotional moment.

A picture of the annoying girl crying:

Oh please do

Nooo, why does she know?

That's kinda poetic

Shut up bitch, I don't wanna survive!
Oh, foreshadowing maybe

Nope, it definetely isn't!

Wait, what?

WTF?

So, she's 100% going to fucking die, I can feel it! I'm disappointed that he agreed to do it. I honestly wanted him to say no, but, sometimes you don't get what you want. *sighs*
Also, she's just too fucking annoying! wanna say that I like her character but I simply don't. Sorry.
7/10

btw, if she brings him out of that darkness and then fucking dies then it will really fucking suck!

Holy shit, I really do not like Kaori. It's pretty damn fucking obvious that Kousei's suffering from some kind of trauma, yet she doesn't care. She doesn't even try to understand him or why he might not want to play. Instead, she repeatedly physically abuses him and tries to manipulate him into being her accompanist in the most obnoxious way possible (Tsubaki's even worse for this, breaking into his house and going through his phone to 'convince' him - that's pretty damn illegal). She's the epitome of a horrible, selfish person, to the point that even when she cried at the end, it felt more like she was trying to emotionally manipulate him instead of being a genuine outpouring of her feelings. I really hope this gets better because right now, I'm wondering why it's so highly rated.

What happened in this episode looked like pure harassment to me :))). But how Kaori convinced Kousei...that was a strong move! I was sure Kousei would not be able to refuse.

Man, this is hitting some new notes now that I'm rewatching it. I loved the "happy piano" scene the most. The pure joy & wonder on that girl's face as they played really hits home how music is the language that can connect hearts without ever saying a word.

Cute episode but part of me wishes they handled the accompaniment thing a bit more delicately. Kousei is very obviously dealing with some type of trauma which Kaori is very well aware of so it seemed a bit odd that she'd not only ask him to accompany her in a competition less than a week away, but continue to push it onto him after he declines.
What's even more jarring is how it's framed as a cute little back and forth when Kaori is sort of being insensitive

Abuse & harassment & stalking and bullying are okay when females do it. Just imagine the sh!t storm in RL if a male mc & character would do half the things this annoying bratty cvnt does to the mc in this episode. Just imagine the meltdowns!

But as it's done by a female everything is a-okay 'cause she's doing it because she's concerned about mc feelings and wants to help him out. Yadda, yadda, yadda bullsh!t. Abuse is abuse plain and simple, and this is the great your lie in April? An anime with a 8.65 score! WTF?! is wrong with people?!

I can feel the trauma that Arima is going through when he said "I'm sorry" after suddenly stopping playing piano. He don't want to face it again.

Miya is so encouraging and cheerful. She said the right words at the right time needed for Arima.
The way they persuaded Arima to become accompanist was funny. I'm happy that Arima agreed and now I have a chance to listen the lead's performing together.

I'm not a fan of Kaori's violent and stalkish nature because she reminds me of Taiga. But I can overlook that as she has charisma and a lot of redeeming qualities.

In this episode, she is the force that pushes Arima to get back playing the piano.

Also, I like that I get to hear one of the words I am learning. bansou = musical accompaniment.

My flashcard deck includes image from this anime. The creator of that deck must be a fan.

In case anyone is wondering ...

The "lie" is about what Arima, Kousei keeps telling himself, that he can't play any more.

He learns to overcome his insecurities to play once again.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

Don't think being depressed would prevent someone from being able to hear their own music specifically, especially in an otherwise silent concert hall.

Absolutely didn't expect Kaori to burst into tears over nothing in such a casual scene either, but do I know what to expect now.

Episode 3 of Your Lie in April continues to build on the emotional depth and beauty that make this series so special. The episode focuses on Kousei’s ongoing struggle with his past and his complicated relationship with music, while also showcasing how the people around him support and encourage him to face his fears.

The dynamic between Kousei and Kaori is heartwarming, with Kaori’s vibrant energy contrasting with Kousei’s hesitations, creating a compelling push-and-pull dynamic. This episode brings light, fun moments that balance with the more serious, emotional undertones. The relationships between the characters continue to deepen, and it's becoming clear that they all play an essential role in each other’s growth.

Visually stunning and emotionally charged, this episode will leave you feeling invested in the characters’ journeys. If you’ve enjoyed the previous episodes, you’re in for a treat, as this one hits all the right notes—both musically and emotionally.

Definitely a 5/5 for me. You won’t want to miss this one!
