Everything fit together perfectly. Even things that didn't fully make sense were alright because it honestly didn't matter. Those confusions didn't detract in any way from the rest of the show.

Bible Black: New Testament

There were some really good scenes, and Kitami is highly enjoyable. Her pure joy in being evil is a real bonus. That, and she turned Imari's body from pretty attractive to downright sexy. Either way, though, I couldn't make heads nor tails of what was going on half the time. Apparently it's common knowledge that Kitami had possessed Imari's body? And also, at some point, Imari was able to recover, sealing Kitami away, even though she was in Kitami's body when it died from blood loss? Saeki was always my favourite, but I can't enjoy her scenes because either things are making no sense or she's too much of a slut to really get into what's going on. Also, where the hell is Minase? Kitami mentioned that it was that art teacher's fault that Minase is gone, but I don't understand what that's supposed to mean. I thought it was Kitami's plan to remake the Bible Black since it was destroyed. By her. So wait, is it her plan to get Minase back? Then who's Jody Crowley? Who the hell is Yuge? And Yamagishi or whoever? Who the hell are these people and why should I care? This was always about Kitami being a jerk and people trying to stop her and the cult of Bible Black. So now there's a second cult under Jody but they have the same goal or something but they don't and they're fighting each other? There isn't even a real protagonist here. Last time, Minase was the protagonist. Here, it's Kitami? I don't know because I don't know what's going on because it's all shoddily written. Then the ending, just, what the fuck is going on? Why did they even put the lancehead in what'sherface if it was just going to repel them later on? Is Kitami in Aki's body now? WHAT!? What is this SHIT!?

I'm disappointed. BLEACH had a lot of potential but Tite Kubo is a shit writer. He writes himself into trouble and forgets basic lore about his own story. I'm compiling a list of all mistakes made in terms of lore and poor decisions as far as story and plot progression. It's taking a while to get done. It's a very long list, you see.

This shits upon the name of Code Geass! It's appalling! Disgusting! The actions sequences are neat, but ruin everything! The tech everyone is using is NOT in sync with what it was always established to be in Lelouch. All of a sudden Sutherland knightmares are motherfucking gymnasts and there are fucking horse knightmares with ludicrous pikes and how'd some Jap guy become a commander in the Britannian army? There was a reason why the Lancelot and the Guren MKII were so incredibly amazing, and that's because they were the only super-knightmares in existence, the only ones that could do flips and move so organically. Even at the end of R2 the tech each one of them used was barely changed. All they really got was different armaments and flight. Yet these motherfucking standard dudes have knightmares that would crush them into the dirt the way they can move. Then there're fucking weirdos in charge of the military who like to play Russian Roulette but they act like fucking insufferable children, how the hell did they ever get promoted!? I can barely even string these words together in a meaningful, cogent way because I'm so fucking angry at the unbridled abortion this is. What a fucking slap in the face it is for us to be told, with a straight face no less, that this takes place during Code Geass. No. This isn't Lelouch. This is fucking some other anime with mechas and magic eye powers, not Lelouch. Speaking of which, that's not how geass works. How did that fucker even get geass in the first place? And why is it exactly like Lelouch's? Just despicable. This is an abomination to anyone who's ever seen and enjoyed the magnificent performance of Lelouch vi Britannia.

Major Whatserface is a fuckin' moron. She's an officer? Bullshit. She's too clumsy to carry a plate, so how can she possibly use a sidearm? She's too much of a pushover to shut down fuckin' gypsies trying to swindle her, so how could she possibly command respect from her men? She, as the senior officer in charge of Wyvern Squad, offers to do manual labour FOR her underling in the junior officer of Lt. Akito Hyuga. I haven't even finished this episode yet and I'm fuckin' LIVID. This is why I prefer Britannia. They're evil and all, but they're fucking COMPETANT AS FUCK.

Leila meeting C.C. is fucking stupid. Akito and Wyvern Squad actually being BORN in Europe DEFEATS THE POINT of them being expendable because they're NOT REFUGEES! If they're fucking citizens by birth then AAAGGGHHHHH!

This is fucking stupid. It shits all over the established lore. It's shit. Goddamn shit is what this shit is. This is so fucking stupid.

Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch
...

Code Geass is by far the best anime to have ever been created. I don't even call it Code Geass. I call it "Lelouch" because he makes the show. And on that note, Lelouch is a fucking SAINT. He is worthy of every praise one can think of and deserved so much more than what he got. Suzaku on the other hand, is a virulent piece of shit. He is the most foul character of a human being that has ever been thought up for the express purpose of ruining Lelouch's life and the lives of everyone around him, THEN claim he's in the right for doing so and everyone else is just too stupid to know it. I mean, this guy... Oh god, I don't even want to think about how stupid and monstrous he and his actions are. Worse is how he blames all the bad things that happen in the entire show on everyone else for opposing his inhumane, counterproductive, hypocritical, traitorous, unscrupulous, psychopathic, sociopathic behaviour. As if HE, a kid who hasn't had any real education nor grown morally or emotionally since he was 10 years old, knows best for everyone else and if they rightly disagree they're criminals to be executed. Oh, but he laments their executions. He thinks it's wrong, but he doesn't lift a finger to stop it. He lets it happen and says it's their own fault for opposing Britannia's tyranny. They should have known better than to try to fight corruption. The peasants should know their place, as it were. Scumbag Suzaku. What a fucking piece of shit, I don't even what hthe fuck I hate this guy whyhah the kekP: I vffuicking IHahte------

Seriously, fuck that guy. All hail Lelouch, the only man who could ever build an army from the ground up, usurp a throne, take over the world, die to bring world peace and live to tell the tale.

My only problem with it is nit-picky, and would be a pain to implement and to watch despite making it more realistic and clear up some problems, while probably making more while they were at it. They really should have implemented both Japanese and English in the dialogue. Not speaking in English but adding Jap words like a cunt, but have the Jap characters speaking in Jap while the Britannians spoke in English. Then when a Jap character was speaking with a Britannian, they could start speaking English, or speak English when it's socially expected of them. Zero himself would probably be constantly switching between the languages. Then the Chinese characters could speak Chinese amongst themselves. It would help the immersion, but would probably boggle the mind. I first thought of this when Suzaku is leading the invasion in Bordeaux and the German commander speaks American English. It's very distressing to me. Like I first said, it might be cool in theory, but would just be confusing and painful in reality. But, then again, maybe not. Who knows.

Another note on Suzaku, someone else wrote this but I thought it was a good example of why he's a piece of shit.

-Lelouch finds out Suzaku is in the Lancelot and that he killed his own dad:
Lelouch forgives Suzaku for patricide to his face and looks out for him even though doing so directly causes problems for Zero's planned coup d'etat

-Suzaku finds out Lelouch is Zero and he killed his own sister:
Suzaku shoots at him, takes him to the emperor to use as a promotion, taunts him by dangling Nunnally, physically beats him, blames him for absolutely everything wrong with his life, and agrees to kill him without a second thought.

I have never hated a character more before Suzaku Kururugi except for Sasuke Uchiha, who is coincidentally played by the same voice actor.

There were lots of good things in this season, like seeing how sociopathic contractors really are, (something that wasn't adequately touched in the first season), the music was great, that armour contractor was cool, and July got a bigger role, which was really darn cool. Despite these great aspects of the show, the girl and the nonsense surrounding her and her brother completely killed the whole thing. That and Mao shouldn't have come back. The story was so well wrapped up after the first season. Also, Yin turned out to be Satan all along. Yeah. Even after watching Gaiden that didn't make sense. Those things garnered so many negative points it completely overwhelmed the outstandingly good parts. Don't watch unless you're a film snob. They seem to like stuff like this. Like Neon Genesis. 6/10 seems low, but it's exactly how I would describe this. It was fine, but it wasn't really good. There were great things about this, then there were not so great things, and while I'll agree there were issues, they weren't nearly as puke-your-guts-out bad as shows like Attack on Titan or Neon Genesis. At least everyone acted sensibly for the most part rather than holding the idiot ball or being screwed over by the writers like the hand of God coming down to keep them from succeeding.

Everything after L's death was completely bizarre and stupid. This would get a perfect mark if they just dropped those last episodes. They could have had an epilogue in which Light died, I think Rewrite did that, and that would have been fine. But they had Near and Mello instead. Bad decision.

I don't get it. The writing is incredibly bad, worse than Kuroinu, which was pretty hard to follow. Japs don't know how to write European medieval fantasy. They just don't.

A thought that's quite fun: If the elf didn't like the dark elf licking her butt, she should've pooped in the dark elf's mouth just to troll her.

Also, I'm not a huge fan of some of the artwork.

Korean cinema seemingly never fails to have an interesting, if not great, premise and execute it spectacularly until about halfway, where the tone whiplashes - fine enough - only to annihilate any goodwill it built up with me in the first half.

It turns out this isn't just a Slice of Life-Genderbender-Comedy, but also a Mystery show, as is readily apparent just from the title: Why and how did the protagonist turn into a girl? It's pretty cool until you realize the protagonist isn't genre savvy. This starts, as I mentioned, about halfway through, but goes beyond the pale at about Episode 9 or 10. I was screaming at the screen I was so angry.

Maybe I'm just too smart or something, but I only needed until Episode 7 to build a functioning model in my head of what happened. The mystery wasn't solved, I didn't know all the details, and certainly neither did the protagonist, but I knew ENOUGH. Even from only his perspective I knew enough. If I was the main guy, as of Episode 6, I'd be seriously concerned, and by Episode 7 I'd be taking *immediate* and *decisive* action and the rest of the story wouldn't happen because I would have solved the conflict. I wanted to be reasonable though, so I figured the guy just didn't have enough information to realize what was really going on. Then the rest of the show happens, and even when the mystery is completely revealed, he's STILL making pants-on-head level stupid decisions. I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

It was at that point that I sped the whole show up so I could finish it, because I still wanted to know what happened, but I didn't want to have to spend another hour watching it.

I saw the last twist coming a mile away, and though I didn't think it would save the show for me, I still thought it could be really cool. It wasn't. I understand why it took so long before the twist happened, because certain prerequisites weren't met, but the timing of it felt off, like the story beat was late. The flow of it felt wrong. What's more, I was expecting a big hero moment - hoping! - and we got one. It was a good start, if late, but oh boy it didn't stick the landing; more like it tripped and fell down the stairs. I was appalled. I can understand why it wouldn't be some glorious superhero victory, but it was groan-inducing, eye-rollingly bad.

The final reveal felt like a retcon and doesn't quite make sense. I do really like the final explanation for the magic of him turning into a girl though, chronology and complete and unabashed visual LIE that it is. I'd talk about it, but since I'm labelling this as a mixed recommendation I don't want to spoil anything. If you've seen the show you probably know what I'm referring to.

The romance didn't happen the way I wanted either. Maybe that's a matter of personal opinion and it won't bother anyone else, I don't know, but based on what was built up I was expecting/hoping for it to be a bit more *solid* at the ending for all the characters. I can't think of a better way to describe it. And let's not forget one them has a COMPLETELY unresolved romance thread which makes it feel very strange indeed.

Finally we have the positives that stand out to me, everything not mentioned here or previously receiving my general approval:

I really loved the art style for the faces. Those lower eyelashes put a smile on my face. The fanservice is mostly treated as a joke, and is actually pretty nice because it's restrained and part of larger moments, or is directly linked to the plot. Part of the conflict is rather serious business and it's refreshing that the show doesn't pull its punches. I also REALLY enjoyed the portrayal of genderbending. It's a trait of poor writers to want their characters to go on a specific journey and end up growing in a specific way, so they rush things and have them immediately adjust to whatever's happening so they can get on with the almighty PLOT. Here, not so much. Despite being genderbent the protagonist still lived his life up to that point as a guy, creating male habits and mannerisms, and it shows. Good on you, show. Good on you.

And now that I think of it, the moral of the story was really fumbled and a bit insulting to the protagonist.

The way I judge art is by starting with whether it's good or not, tempered, or even sometimes overruled, by whether I like it or not. From there, I decide just how good or just how bad it is. In this case, I decided Bagel Girl is bad, but it's not 'Very Bad', 'Horrible', or 'Appalling', so while I think 4 is too low a score, I mostly agree with the label of 'Bad'. Still, recommendations count for a lot more, I find, either a definite Yes, No, or Give-It-A-Try-And-See-How-You-Feel. In this case I give Bagel Girl a very firm recommendation of 'Mixed Feelings'.

I really don't know what to say about this. At no point was I particularly turned on, even though the imagery was quite evocative. More often than not I simply was lost with all the strange little details that didn't really get explained, of which there are many, and I mostly watched this with a scholar's eye, just watching and observing, trying to squeeze every last drop of meaning and enjoyment from the show as a piece of cinema. I am still pretty weirded out about the whole thing and can't think what to say. It was just so... ???

Fate/stay night

I hated Shiro. He sucked. A lot. One cannot pull off the "heroic idiot" without actually being successful once and a while. He's also got a short-term memory, since going out alone has proved to be near fatal every time he's done it, I don't know why he continues to tempt fate, all the way until "J- J- Jam it in." He ruined the show. If he wanted to be Ichigo Kurosaki, then the writers should have put Ichigo Kurosaki in and been done with it.

Additionally, there's shit in this you can't understand without having seen the necessary background material which includes the 3rd Grail War which isn't covered in anime so far. That stuff is bad. Don't do that. Ever. I'm serious, guys. Fate/Zero was the story of the 4th Holy Grail War and yet it barely required outside knowledge aside from knowledge of famous legends. It managed to be a stand-alone project. That's good.

Credability is also lost for Kirei as a secret antagonist and the show as a whole when he simply stands there while Shiro runs up to stab him. At any point, Kirei could have used his super speed and super strength given to him by his Paladin training to either disarm Shiro or stab him in the face with a Black Key. I would have enjoyed that.

Archer is Future Shiro. That's bad. I get that we're supposed to figure it out through the similarities between him and Shiro, but I didn't get it. Nope. When I saw Shiro using Kansho and Bakuya, I thought he was just copying Archer, not using the weapons he decided were the best for him. Not only does this create a time paradox, it also just doesn't make sense.

People, important people, like Rider, don't get enough screen time and next to no characterization. All in favour of the unconvincing romance. Honestly, I prefer SaberxGilgamesh because it seemed like Gilgamesh really liked her and he had some history with Arthur so it was far more believable that he would have something more than teenage hormones for her. And by the way, at no point was Saber really given a reason to like Shiro. She was furious with his reckless stupidity, his sexist attitudes and pretty much everything else about him. Then all of a sudden Shiro gets attacked by "The Dragon" which bites his arm off and all of a sudden Saber is lining up with the rest of the female cast to have a taste of the projection in his pants. Yeah, forgive me for not buying it.

And on the strain I started earlier, Assassin was pretty cool but got no time to develop his character. Oh, and by the way, him being a "fictional" hero is stupid. Medusa is fiction. So what's the big deal with Sasaki Kojiro being fiction? Caster didn't get enough time for us to actually give a damn when she died, which is too bad. Those skeletons of hers were the most pathetic mooks I've ever seen and I don't think we ever even saw the full extent of what she could do. Isn't that a cardinal sin? Not showing us everything a character can do is unfulfilling and completely lame.

This brings us Rider. We don't even learn her name in Fate/Stay Night the Anime. What kind of bullshit is that? We know she has a real name, and we never learn it? WHY? Rider and Shinji were a sweet team. That book Shinji had wasn't explained either. Yes, it's in different routes, but that's stupid because animes aren't like visual novels. They're a self contained story. Either you translate it over to a different medium well, or not at all so you can spare us, and mostly me, your incompetence.

Rider and Shinji were a great team. I actually thought they needed way more screen time. They both had issues and they had so far they could have climbed. When I first watched F/SN, I thought they should be the protagonists because Shinji could have his issues but with Rider's help, finally get to the core of the problem and grow as a person and learn how to not be a massive prick. In so doing, Shinji would fix Rider's issues and they could have a much more believable, fulfilling relationship than Shiro and the gender confused spirit of King Arthur ever could. Best of all, I doubt they'd have a romance in the first place. It would be platonic and would be heartwarming. Just fuck off, Shiro Emiya. Stop ruining my anime, you flat, static character.

Finally, Rin Tohsaka should have died. Her guts were splattered all across the wall. No way in hell she could survive that. Even if she used healing magic, (which I didn't think you could use on yourself), it wouldn't fix how brutalised she'd been. If she didn't die instantly, then it would've only taken minutes to bleed out or whatever else. She shoulda been dead.

On a scale of 1-10, 1 being the lowest, I give this anime a 0. It fails in everything it tries to be. It tries to be romance. Fail. It tries to be action. Shiro's retarded strategies which include charging a crazy super-badass in glowing gold armour who can effortlessly maul King Arthur, with only his fists, takes the excitement out quite a bit. I'm actually embarassed watching Shiro because his actions are so completely stupid, I feel like I'm watching a mentally retarded kid go up against invincible death machines. So action? Fail. Comedy? That's not funny, Taiga. Get out of this show right now. You're not making this any better as you screech on and on about food and the goings on of Shiro who you really don't have any authority over and his house which you also don't have any authority over. Get out. You're not wanted. The best moment in the show was when Shinji kicked her in the face. Ah. Catharsis. Comedy? Fail. Oh. And there's "The Dragon." That's worth -1 points on its own. Yeah. Fuck this anime and fuck the ass it rode in on.

Anime,
I am disappoint.

The Fate series is basically a more fleshed out and action-packed version of X/1999. I understand that this is based off a visual novel series, so there's a lot of stuff that isn't explained because it's from a different arc, or something, but this is a self-contained story. It should be able to stand on its own. I watched the show twice and watched F/SN (twice as well). I still cannot understand why people turn into cups. I'm sure I could figure it out if I did some research, but that's a problem. One should not have to research external sources to understand something so important to the plot. The way I see it, either they should have better explained the reasoning behind people turning into cups, or, in my opinion a much better solution, cut it out entirely. That extra layer of unnecessary confusion alone brought my score down from 10/10 to 9/10. But on second thought, the more I think about this, the more disappointed I am with it. And another thing, it's not as good as Parasyte, so I refuse to give it a higher score.

I must have been too young to understand when I first saw this, somehow I even missed things that were stated outright, but now it all makes sense. The Elrics, Mustang's group, Scar, Winry+Sheska, Hughes+Sheska, Greed, Kimblee, Tucker, Rose, Basque Gran, Dante, Bradley+Sloth+Envy+Gluttony, Lust, Wrath, Archer, Izumi, Ross+Block, Hoenheim, and even ADOLPH HITLER! This isn't a battle of good and evil, this is a complex network of rivalries, disparate allies, monsters, leaders and rebels, and every combination of third parties imaginable, each one of which having different goals, and forming alliances if and when those goals are the same. This is like Lelouch in terms of sheer magnitude of shifting politics and new clues being presented and then somehow becoming irrelevant until the conclusion when we realize they actually were relevant and pure relatableness of the characters. True, it's kind of hard to classify many characters with adjectives, but just because you can't describe a character doesn't mean you don't know them. Everyone knows Mustang. Everyone knows him inside and out as to what he would do, who he would trust and to what lengths he would go for anything he needed to. There is a depth to everyone, and a huge arc to most characters. In fact, those who don't go through much of a character arc, example being Armstrong, are lucky. In Armstrong's case, his character was revealed to be deeper than he led on, though he never actually changed throughout the story, which is a subtle way of saying he didn't get thoroughly assraped by misfortune and the abyss of downer moments in this show.

This story didn't stick to the original concept, hence the OVA, but I don't care. This went in far better, more emotional, more, I would say, complex directions, with stronger character development and I don't even know what else because it's such a roller coaster ride of compelling tragedy and violence and sacrifice and bonds of loyalty that I can hardly even explain why it's awesome. If I had to sum up my reasons why this is a masterpiece I'd have to say it's because of the realistic characters, complex emotional states of the characters, intricate story that has you by the balls the entire time, a musical score that causes a VISCERAL emotional response EVERY DAMN TIME it starts up (special props to Taboo, Fortify as being so incredibly FMA, embodying everything that makes this show amazing), my personal pet peeve is addressed and I see no loose ends, especially no loose ends by the end of the movie, and action that, as I said happened in short bursts, is actually more intense because it's realistic in its depictions: you don't want the good guys to have to fight the bad guys because you know that it's dangerous. Not like Bleach, where it's dangerous to be swordfighting all the time but the fights go on for a long time without victory and people bounce back from stab wounds like it's nothing, but ACTUALLY dangerous, where a punch to the face is all it takes for a character to be defeated, or a sword wound across the torso is incredibly effective at ending fights right then and there, making every encounter between enemies a very unpleasant experience seeing as people can only take realistic levels of damage before keeling over. Basically, the violence is treated like a survival horror.

I will admit things get a bit rushed at the end, but it doesn't really detract much. Because of that rush, you just have to answer your own questions. If there had been even 1 more episode, the rushed ending would have been smoothed over enough that people would stop bitching about it when it was perfectly serviceable anyways.

I hypothesize this was a conspiracy to make a perfect anime... and everyone was in on it... [cue "Fortify"]

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

20 episodes in, my score still remains a firm 0 out of 10. Perhaps my mind will be changed, there's still 40 eps to go, after all. We'll see.

Okay, finished the show. No, my opinion hasn't changed, I still hate this show. I hate almost every bit of humour in the series, the music, except for "Next Chapter" is boring and unmemorable (speaking of which, I don't even really like Next Chapter after getting a good listen to it since its melody doesn't really go anywhere), and things, oh this is what I hate most in stories, just HAPPEN, no real reason is given nor is one readily available for handwaving purposes. For most of this show, the trope "And Then John Was a Zombie" is invoked for any possible problem, much as new characters are introduced in BLEACH to explain away a plot hole while simultaneously creating 10 more to replace it. Also, there are threads of plot that don't go anywhere and we're just left hanging, wondering if it's going to be important or not then coming to the conclusion that it must not be important since it hasn't been brought up in a while. My prime example: They find out performing human transmutation creates... something... but not who they were trying to bring back. So... what exactly is that something? WHO did they create if not the person they were trying to ressurect? Seriously, I really want to know, if Ed and Al didn't create a failed Trisha, then what DID they create? But no. It's just forgotten about; never mentioned again. And this happens ALL the time! The whole anime felt cliché to an extreme, as if it was actually an homage to shonen anime clichés. I hate the long, meandering speeches while right in the middle of a fight that no real person would ever say. The guilt characters felt over Ishbal wasn't nearly as believable as that of the original FMA, in fact being overblown, in my opinion, with reference to it as often as possible to the point that it was Narutoesque--you know what I mean by that, don't you? Naruto spends 75% of every episode remembering a handful of moments that Sasuke was a good guy, even when it's really not appropriate. This is done ad nauseum with Winry's parents as well, which is really disgusting.

Scar was such a fucking badass in FMA. Every moment he was onscreen was an orgy of emotions for the audience because, get this, he was an INTERESTING, COMPLEX character. He was just some kid who was in a shit situation and his brother was driving himself insane then he makes it through the bad situation with a magic arm to boot. Following that, he's in utter confusion about what he should do with his life, what his magic arm is all about, how he got it from his brother, WHY he got it from his brother, and more. He was pissed off and wanted blood, so he decides the best thing to do is kill state alchemists. However, as he does this, he receives incredible amounts of backlash, not only from everyone around him, but even from his own conscience, leading him to completely stop doing so in favour of a more laudible, if still morally ambiguous, goal of saving the city of Lior from extermination, eventually giving his life to save some alchemist he'd met upon finally understanding why his brother gave him his magic arm. The most important thing about Scar in FMA is that he's a badass who is constantly doubting himself and unsure of what he should be doing with his life. Compare that to the Scar of FMAB, or my nickname for it, FMA (Bad), and he shows no sign of a guilty conscience, no doubt about the validity of what he's doing, nor any sign of character growth. He kills Winry's parents, which completely devalues him as a likeable character and WORSE devalues Roy Mustang's anguish over his stay in Ishbal, making it seem like an overreaction. Let's be honest, in FMAB they said that it was a FULL-SCALE civil war that lasted for 7 years. By the point Mustang really got to work, it can't be called an immoral massacre any longer, it's a just retribution and necessary measures for ending the war and restoring stability to the nation. Even if Mustang is appalled by the amount of killing just in general, the horror he was witness to was probably no worse than Vietnam, actually better though because it was in response to 7 years of CIVIL war, not just a country going WAY out of their way to someone else's country to kill their people for perceived threats of them taking an opposing government type. No, this was real and immediate for Mustang and all Amestris. Atrocities or not, this was a rather big deal and as a result big actions had to be taken to restore order. Mustang's reaction is incredibly out of proportion given that situation. I'm not sayin it wouldn't leave a mark on his psyche, I'm just saying that his reaction years afterwards is downright debilitating and causes him to go on long rants that no real person would ever actually say. Compare that to FMA where he has flashbacks and thinks about Ishbal and is freaked out in general. It's something amazing, something FMAB doesn't know how to do because of its shit writing, it's called "being subtle," and that subtlety is what makes him feel more realistic and makes the audience more sympathetic to him, compared of course to stating in a five minute speech, in which he says random ass shit that no real person would ever say, that he upset. Slow clap, FMAB, slow clap. To sum up this paragraph's original intent, Scar in FMAB is boring and unlikeable, utterly unfathomable given his portrayal in FMA.

Now let's think about the involvement of the state alchemists in Ishbal to begin with. In FMAB, it was a full-scare civil war, one that would warrant immediate deployment of state alchemists. Yet it wasn't done until 7 years had passed. Of course they would wrap things up too quickly for the bad guys' taste, but the way it was handled didn't make sense to me. The Ishbal troops would have no way to counter state alchemists. Their deployment would spell immediate doom for their uprising. Yet that's still not what happened. The war went on and on even with invincible death machines like Roy Mustang on the field. Compare to FMA where the fighting wasn't exactly small scale, but it wasn't a huge civil war that took most the country by storm. As I understood it, it was MUCH more like Vietnam, with very little fighting compared to insurgency, which is why the whole thing lasted so long, because Amestris was unwilling to escalate the conflict into a full-blown war. Then they sent the state alchemists and that was it. As soon as those boots hit the ground, the conflict was over. MUCH more believable, much more logically consistent. I don't even really know what I'm trying to say here. I guess that FMA portrayed things better than FMAB? For sure I like that Ishbal is important but characters don't dwell on it beyond the audience's capacity to care. An aside, again, this is like Winry's parents who are brought up all the damn time. They're fixated on and it's annoying.

I don't know what else I have to say although I know there's more. I just really don't want to talk about this anymore because I marathoned FMAB as quick as I could and I'm burned out with frustration at it. In short, what FMAB did well as a shonen, FMA did 100 times better as a drama.

Ghost Hunt

This was pretty good. It was neat seeing different spiritualists all hang out together, although clashing of methods and religions would have been more interesting and give a whole new purpose to the show rather than just all being silly and taking care of ghosts. There were ass-pulls galore and on the subject of religions, if John's Christian magic could work to exorcise spirits, then that would mean Christianity must be correct. But Christianity says that it's the One True Faith, which would mean all the other religions, and therefore the magic of the other main characters, wouldn't actually work. Basically, Ghost Hunt was being too simplistic in its portrayal of things. That's not entirely a bad thing though, since it was made for babies.

I was told Ghost Hunt would be scary. This was not the case. The scariest one was the one with multiple murders. That was pretty sweet. The only problem was that was about when I started losing my temper with the main character, Mai. From the first episode I was angry with the stupidity of the protagonist. It only got worse until that Bloody Labyrinth arc when she was having premonitions, accurate visions that would quite easily explain a great deal and possible stop a lot of stupid shit from happening. She's also completely aware at this point that her dreams are in fact accurate. Yet she never tells anyone about it until it's too late, or not at all. It's not even like she bothers to act on her dreams on her own either. It's just stupid. It was so incredibly obvious that the killer was the sickly man. One spirit kept saying he didn't want to die. This would line up with someone who was terminally ill, right? Then Mai has a dream where she sees someone bathing in blood. She never mentions this at all to anyone. Given that Shibuya (I don't remember his first name and what's more, everyone calls him Naru, which is actually a derogatory nickname that even Lin uses in place of his real name at ALL times, which is very bizarre to me, unless it's explainable through Japanese culture) immediately makes the link between bathing in blood and the mythos behind that with the motives of the killer, if Mai had just said she'd had a dream about that on THE VERY FIRST NIGHT, then 2 people, or at least one of them, wouldn't have been brutally abducted and murdered. But no, she's retarded.

On more about stupidity, I was literally screaming at the screen as a watched because people would keep going off on their own when it was expressly stated that if you did that, you WOULD be abducted and brutally murdered. But no. Retard girl just can't figure this shit out. What's worse, it's not just her. Fucking, the spirit medium did it too, when she was one of the most level headed, cautious people there. Just, what the fuck, you stupid people. Mai keeps getting all emotional when it's not the time. Example: she gets all hesitant to use magic to hurt someone when he's got a knife and is doing something with it that could cause a lot of problems, that is, if he didn't just decide to stab her instead. Or when she tries to exorcise ghosts and nearly gets killed for it. Also, she's absolutely retarded about interacting with others during cases. Example: these 2 kids have recently been noted to be behaving extremely suspiciously and the last time this situation came up at the house the spiritualists working there are died. So the 2 kids come and start talking all creepy to Mai in the dead of night and ask her how many spiritualists have come this time. AND SHE FUCKING TELLS THEM. That was a very specific and creepy thing to ask, especially when you already know there's something wrong with them and the spiritualists died last time. WORSE: she doesn't inform the team that the kids asked her that question. The kids walk off and giggle and say creepy things to her and she doesn't take the hint that there's something wrong. Then when they show up again wanting to know if the one guy actually died, she closes the door on the scene, understandable, I suppose, but then they get all disappointed that that the guy didn't actually die. If the first encounter wasn't enough to royally freak you out and suspect they were possessed and cause you to take extreme and immediate measures, then the second encounter would be overwhelmingly more than enough to warrant such a reaction. But no. It takes a third encounter where the kids practically admit that they're possessed for Mai to get the FUCKING CLUE that's so GODDAMN fucking ELUSIVE, the STUPID SHIT FOR BRAINS! I don't remember everything else stupid that happened, but there was more. Just, fucking GOD you STUPID... I felt so bad for Naru. I felt for him the whole time. He probably felt like he was surrounded by blithering idiots. This feeling would be quite magnificently amplified by the fact that he actually is surrounded by people who are barely toddler level intelligence.

There were lots of things that weren't fully explained, like who the hell Lin was, or what Naru could actually do, or what his relationship was with Masako, or what, but I didn't really care. The more I think about this show, the more angry I get. I actually procrastinated finishing it I was so frustrated. That might tell you something about how I felt about it.

Golden Boy

Kentaro sounds like a retard, squawking and guffawing about this and that and he does some of the most outrageously stupid things I have ever seen in my life, and that's saying something considering I watched Fate/Stay Night with its questionable protagonist Shiro Emiya, but he's a damn likeable character all the same. My only disappointment is that he never saves the world. After every episode having the narrator say he might save the world some day, I sort of thought it was going to happen at some point. Either way, Kentaro is a complete badass and proves to me and the world that Golden Boy is a masterpiece, (despite him also being a flaming idiot when it comes to behaving himself in public).

Great Teacher Onizuka

Onizuka was simultaneously badass and dorkass. This anime tackles a lot of the issues Japan was facing at the time of this anime's production, (as far as I understand) and paints Onizuka as the biggest Messiah I've ever seen.

As amazing as it is, I can't give this anime 10/10 because Onizuka never got the girl and his heroic sacrifice was never fully appreciated. The ending wasn't cliche and happily-ever-after enough. Onizuka was *supposed* to have a happy ending. No matter how big his heroic sacrifice, he always managed to survive. He was always able to save everyone and heal deep mental wounds. This was supposed to be a happy ending, it really should have been. The tone set in the very first episode which continued until the very end demanded it be. Overall, it was a logical, fitting end, but an unsatisfying one.

GTO, I am disappoint.

This was hilarious. The ending annoyed me though. The ending was really built up too, we were seriously getting the foreshadowing that fate could be changed. But no. That didn't happen. That's horseshit. The ending, like several other animes, detracts enough to force me to give this a less than perfect mark.

Hataraku Maou-sama!

It's sad, really. This started out incredibly. It was dark and violent, but then out of nowhere, hilarity ensues. They should have kept up that pace. My rewrite to the story is based entirely on what was said in the prologue, in other words, what was told according to the HUMAN perspective. We only know what the humans knew about Maou's campaign against them. In having Maou as the protagonist, we, the audience, are able to get the other side of the story. But we really don't. It's like the whole background to what's really important, the business of Ente Isla, is completely disregarded for silly one-shots.

My biggest problem with this is the tone. The tone is all over the place. It's established that it's very dark and serious, but as they enter our universe, they encounter case after case of degradation and humiliation that allows us to just laugh our asses off at their, that is to say all the main cast's, expense. But then there's violence, and things are serious, but they throw in a joke or something out of place that is completely unfunny. Even worse is the bizarre mixed messages we get about the personalities and actions of the characters. Maou was a dark god who burned fields, razed towns and killed their occupants. Then, within the course of a day, he's COMPLETELY reformed. And he didn't even get zapped with Fluttershy's Element of Harmony as an excuse for the change, either. I can't even describe how disappointed I was with this show, I was just trying but I can only come up with a few little things because the whole show is flawed on a fundamental level. The conflict is... what again? A superior conflict to trying to become shift manager at MgRonald's would be how Maou and Emilia learn to cope about each other and see each other's side of the story, or rather, that would be the primary conflict for Emilia, learning what was actually going on in Maou's head and his reasons for how he acts and why he started massacring people in their alternate universe, then coming to terms with the fact that she's not the hero she continually claims to be, assuming that Maou was misunderstood, which is the only way to go if he's going to be the protagonist and be seen as a moral character. Then they'd get over their grievances, go back to Ente Isla and negotiate for their sides of the conflict between demons and humans and angels. Then they'd kiss and become a couple and live happily ever after or something because they're too obviously meant for each other. But that's what I meant by this show being too hard to examine. The whole thing is misguided. The entire focus is entirely wrong and the conflict is similarly misaligned. Of course we could have humour, and lots of it! Bring in more laughs! I can't get enough! But there should be the undercurrent of seriousness. Let's not forget this whole show is a result of a huge war, which, I'll remind you, could start again as soon as the demons have their king back to lead them. The war is only on pause! Throughout the whole show, while Chiho is trying to seduce Maou, while Alsiel is being hilarious, the war is looming behind the scenes. Yet it's completely ignored. The premise is good. The characters are good. Except for Lucifer. He's an example of those mixed messages I mentioned. I'm going to pause just to talk about these mixed signal for just a moment. Maou is hypothesized to have been a good guy, even when he was the dark lord. This doesn't fit with his actions unless there's a huge amount of information to justify his actions or at the least explain how he can be a nice guy yet order atrocities. This is never discussed. Which is bad. But let's just say that Maou was a good guy but he started this war all the same. How does Lucifer fit into this? As Maou's general, why would he want someone so utterly villainous, if of course he's a good guy? Either he's also villainous, or he just needed a psycho for hire for the war. So then Lucifer betrays them in our universe and then just joins up with them after he's beaten. So was he ever really loyal to Maou in the first place? Just... there's more to why I can't understand him and how things don't add up, but I'm having a hard time because it's like trying to divide by zero, it just halts your brain.

Anyways, the characters were mostly good. Also, the silly one-shot episodes are kind of okay, but the focus of the story and the lack of consistent personalities in the characters and just... jeezus. This had so much potential for analyzing what makes someone a villain and in who's eyes are they a villain, and a hot and steamy romance between Maou and Erza, I mean Emilia, as they come to terms with each other and ultimately forgive each other for their actions. But it didn't take that road. It decided to be a mildly amusing, but misaligned anime that could have been very intense and emotional and philosophical and just... just... Why did you fail me, "The Devil is a Part-Timer?"

It's so artsy! And everything's more dramaful with Seras as the protagonist and her business. I love it! But I also hate it. It's a fun romp, even if things don't make sense because of funding problems.

Highschool of the Dead

This was dark and thrilling and full of suspense, but was still able to be lighthearted. I don't know about the original dub, but English dub was damn funny and overall more believable, given the characters' constant use of slang and references to real world films or jokes or whatever.

The ecchi was not nearly as bad as I was informed it was. It sometimes was shocking that they really put a panty flash scene right in the middle of a no-win fight where there's screaming and crying and imminent doom, but it never fails to be amusing, never. The ecchi, in my opinion, did not detract much from the experience, but it succeeded in the goal that so many other shows attempt and fail so very badly. It was funny. It was really funny. Every single panty flash, every single wet shirt scene, it was all genuine hilarity. I do believe this could be a magnificent show if it was dark and only got darker, but then it would have to be called something different because it wouldn't be H.O.T.D.

Every emotion string in your body gets twanged and it's actually believable that these school kids could get away and lead a successful survival group. Every character, even the bitchy ones, feel necessary and relatable.

This is, in every way imaginable, a masterpiece. We can only hope that the story of the H.O.T.D. team will have another chapter and that it will be just as big a success as the first.

The first episode ruins everything. Spoilers, man. Spoilers. What the fuck.

And the ending. Jesus Christ. Why? Just why? Everything else was a blast, then the ending? WHY!? They all come back though. Surely, everything gets fixed at the end! But of course not. Fuckin' hell I need some vanilla fanfiction. I need vaniall fanfiction RIGHT FUCKING NOW to wash that FILTH of an end out of my head.

And you know what else? This gets less than a 4/10 because it actually is appalling. Just... That fucking ending. And the manga's still going and there's no end in sight and just... No. I'm not buying into this shit. The story is shit. The ending is shit. You can be grimdark but you have to have a satisfying conclusion, and there is no conclusion, there will never be a conclusion, and it will never be good enough to fix all the bullshit that we had to go through including the RAPED ending of GutxKafka with no repair either in sight or in my opinion even possible. There IS no repair. There IS no happy ending. FUCLK THIS. FUCK IT FOREVER. WHAT THE FUCK. I used to hate Neon Genesis. I used to hate it more than cancer. It was the worst anime ever, and for that matter the worst anything ever. There's been a change to that. Neon Genesis is now TIED for worst ANYTHING EVER with Berserk. Fuck this.

It was good. It was great! But then the ending... I... I really don't have words... Is Mako a lesbian? I mean, that would be fine, except it totally isn't. Mako is devoid of any kind of human sexuality. It's simply not something she experiences. And like... Her whole "date" thing wasn't exactly clear, like... It was really hard to tell if she meant it literally, as in like the corny thing where the girl orders the guy to come back (the token of chivalry), or if she mean the same thing but on a less personal scale, intending it for the whole group. Like...

And the whole last bit after 19, or was it 18? That was all really crappy. I have in fact taken what they had and reworked it into something far better.

... Thank god for MikiRyu, SatsUzu, IraMako, InuJa fanart and fanfiction. How can the OTPs be denied!?

Kiseijuu: Sei no Kakuritsu

Ehhhhhh... As much as I enjoyed this, I'm still frustrated with a couple things. Number one, Shinichi is always bordering on Shiro Emiya level retardedness. I don't know if it's just a Jap thing or what, because common sense doesn't seem to apply to characters like him. There's this strange refusal to acknowledge their situation and react logically. Or else they overreact way hard. Just... Why does he care so much? Why does he take things that are clearly not his problem or his fault so personally? Irrational. Grr! That's the worst thing I'd say. Common sense eludes him. Why does he keep saying it's his duty to protect "humanity" or else he goes on a tangent about not wanting to kill or... I'm confused. The logic is shit because it isn't logic, it's dumbfuckery. My father once gave me a piece of information, one of the most important words of wisdom I've ever heard. He said: "When an enemy's down, you take a knife and shove it in his throat." That's how I consider the C.S. Goto situation. Luckily Shinichi made the right decision, but it was for all the wrong reasons that were all metaphysical or existential or... His train of thought was absurd.

Another problem I had was Murano. Like, seriously. At first I didn't mind her. She was a character that didn't do anything specific, instead functioning only to be important to Shinichi and serving to question his humanity so he could have an internal conflict. That was fine. She was boring, but that was okay because she did was she was supposed to with the small amount of screentime she received. HOWEVER. This did not continue to be the case for long. She didn't grow as a character at all, and considering she didn't have much to her to start, this was a problem. Also, her purpose was lost because Shinichi figured out how to deal with his loss of humanity by himself without her help, so she was pointless and even more pointless because her point that she failed to come through on was resolved. Yet she stuck around. As a character she overstayed her welcome.

Kana on the other hand started out with an inherently more interesting, and just more, personality and was even growing as a character, on her own and especially with each time she hung out with Shinichi. Yet she was taken from us. For fuck's sake. SHE HAD A PERSONALITY! She had an arc to complete, she had a future, somewhere for her character to go. Meanwhile all Murano did was complain about Shinichi and screw with him by being hot and cold and then questioning him all the time in a super duper accusing way when it's clear he's going through some CRAZY shit. Everyone knew he wasn't doing so hot, but she just keeps complaining that he's changed, as if all this CRAZY SHIT isn't something to be bothered about. Just... She was fine at first, but it should have been her that died and not Kana. Kana had somewhere to go as a character while Murano did not. Murano would have died when her purpose was exhausted and everyone would have been sympathetic to her. Kana would then take over and be good to Shinichi and help him out with his emotional problems, because honestly she seemed WAY more concerned about him than Murano did, and they'd team up and save the world or some shit. They wouldn't even have to get together! They could stay platonic, to Kana's dismay, but it would be okay! Kana would understand that Shinichi was shook up and wouldn't press the issue because even though she's not real bright when it comes to self-preservation she's still smart enough to care about Shinichi and want the best for him so she wouldn't try too hard to get with him, especially if she was sure she didn't have competition from Murano. She was probably so pushy just because Murano was around being a pain in the ass and causing Shinichi no end of problems.

But nobody ever listens to me. NOBODY! Nobody cares what I have to say and nobody ever will. Fuck you, World. I wish these people would stop having such stupid ideas for their anime series and start making them better. Like Code Geass. Seriously. Like, the only major problem I have with that is people didn't die when they should have, but because they didn't really do all that much after that point, one can just pretend they did die without much resistance.

This is like Madoka in the sense that it's just an art student's wet dream. Unlike Madoka though, there's not even the small hint of substance that that show had. Nothing happens. And what does happen doesn't really make sense and drags on and I don't see the point. There doesn't seem to be a story, and not even really a plot. I don't get it and I don't like it. And another thing, I ate when you make a show out of chronological order just because you can. Why? It's stupid and confusing. And I know I was supposed to watch out of order because it's ordered so you get the info that way, and out of that order means you don't get the same information you need to go forward, even if what you do get is in the proper sequence. I tried watching the FIRST first episode and that didn't make sense either. So fuck this. I hate this.

I've gotta say, I've not seen storytelling this bad anywhere outside fanfiction and hentai. But that's the thing, isn't it? It's not just hentai. I've seen this terrible quality of writing in other places, like the Final Fantasy games, the newest ones I think were the worst offenders, and other Japanese games, I think mostly RPGs, and perhaps anime too, but I can't think of any off the top of my head. I don't know if this is actually just a hentai thing or if it's just some style of writing built into Japanese culture that makes absolutely no sense to anyone else. Or maybe Japanese people just don't know how to write European Medieval/Fantasy stories. That seems more likely. It kind of shows in Attack on Titan too, though not to the extent in KuroInu. That actually makes the most sense. I wouldn't be able to write a story taking place in Feudal Japan very well either, but the strange bombardment of terms and non-sequitur history without any real context is a flaw that goes beyond not knowing how to write a Fantasy story. In other words, this is shit. But hey, the drawing is good and the sex is good (some times more than others), so that's what really matters, right?

The whole premise doesn't make sense and the ending, while giving me a "just as planned" boner, was contrived and ass-pulled. The first episode is also really good in setting the scene and showing how much Sebastian cares about Ciel in a father-son sort of way, except that's not actually what was going on, so I'm projecting my superior visions for the story.

There were great things in this, then there were incredibly stupid things. For instance, the whole sequel didn't have to exist, and perhaps the world would have been better off if it didn't.

They should have just renamed this to the Rundelhaus Code Show. It would've been better that way. One point though, I refuse to believe his subclass is "Adventurer." He doesn't get a regular subclass? Why not? All Adventurer subclass does is make it so he's an Adventurer. It doesn't grant any special abilities or skills like Chief's Chef subclass or Shiro's Scribe subclass. It just gives him the average shit everyone else gets automatically in ADDITION to getting to have a subclass? So he's fucking crippled without a proper subclass forever now? Bullshit. I consider his status to be Adventurer, not his subclass. 'Cause that's bullshit. If it ever comes up again, I'm going to pretend his subclass is "Black Mage Up to 11." Because that other shit is bullshit. Way to go and cripple the best fuckin' character in the show. You fuckers make me fuckin' sick. Bastards. Rundelhaus is Ollanius Pius. What a shitty ending. Look, we're here for the sex scenes. That's the point of this show. The bad guy is the one causing the sex scenes, so we, the audience, are generally going to side with him over the good guys because if it weren't for him, there would be no sex scenes. Which is the point. Additionally, he's kinda the protagonist anyway. We see his goals and how he works toward completing them and we see his success and we cheer as everything comes together perfectly for him in the end. He had a nice arc, but then the stupid good guys win, ruining all the end that the whole damn show was building to and erasing any chance of a dramatic payoff with the bad guy's victory. Revenge of the Sith is about the bad guys winning and should therefore really have centered around Palpatine, but whatever. In the end my only criticism is that the bad guy didn't win at the end which was just an asspull and a complete waste of the stuff that happened in the show. I can't even put into words how wrong that ending was. The whole story was about breaking the two female leads, so having them rescued at the end goes against the whole point! I just... FUCK.

Masamune-kun no Revenge
...

I'm surprised how much angst there was later on. It was good, incredibly so, but it made it hard to keep watching. The ending arc with Snow White was a little dull but ended well enough. After reading the karaoke scene in the manga I definitely say the anime did it better. I didn't like the addition of the fat fake Masamune, and that's a real shame because with him the show would have surely been better. It was a plotline that didn't need to happen for the tension to rise and be intense and great. There were better ways to accomplish this. And the manga... It hypes the angst even more later on which is just plain dumb. It's the same complaint I make about Neon Genesis, where I get taken out of the story by some of what happens when it just feels forced, and I remember this is just a story and it's not a real breathing world that I'm looking into. The original author must have run out of creativity so he started cocking it up with zany, one-off ideas which seem out of place or unnecessary, or in the latest case, around chapter 40 or something, absolutely horseshit for the sole purpose of prolonging the story. I'm telling you dude, you had your chance to bang the hot maid character in episode 2. We were all rooting for you to get with her, but that was then, and now you have to get with the main girl because the reveals. She's a victim in this too. Just LET them get together, for pity's sake. They deserve it after everything they've been through.

Speaking of going through crap, the main reason why I adore this is because of how our two love interest characters develop between the present and the past that set off this whole story. Their reactions are heavy. Aki becomes cold and cruel, yet secretly filled with sorrow, while Masamune becomes incredibly driven and optimistic and sociable and healthy, yet underneath it all is the most angry, hateful, and vindictive character I've ever seen that I actually liked since Lelouch himself. And it's an apt comparison. Both Masamune and Lelouch had an event as children that screwed them up and made them hold a grudge that went on to define their lives. They each dwelt on their anger and hate and allowed it to consume them until there was nothing left but the desire for vengeance, and ultimately they find out that their anger was misplaced, pulling the reason for their hate out from under them and putting them at their breaking point. They suddenly find out their hate was based on a lie and it utterly destroys them. After all, when all they have is hate, when they realize their target is innocent and undeserving of it, what else do they have? Ideally they'd complete their vengeance and then be happy and move on, but because they can't complete it and they just have to stop partway through, it fucks them up worse than when they started the grudge in the first place. Sasuke had this happen to him too with Itachi, but the difference with him is that it ended well for him and even finding out the truth may have been upsetting but there was the reassurance that it was what Itachi wanted, then Sasuke just decides "Fuck that." and goes and starts fucking shit up for everyone. It's not the same. Close. But it's not. Fuck that guy. It's not the same.

Future Diary is flantabulous. Like, holy shit, you don't even know. Like, I can't even... Like, dude, seriously. I can only attempt to highlight a few of the many points I see in this show's favour because I get so caught up in the awesomeness I start switching to other ways it's awesome.

1. Yuki is a sympathetic character to the extreme. At no point did I ever get angry at the kid, even when he did something that was stupid. This is because he is reacting as best he can in an ever more stressful situation. What makes him different from Shinji Ikari is that where Shinji will do something stupid or be a wuss then be more stupid and more wussy as a result and it'll come off as frustrating to the audience, Yuki will screw up or be a wuss, but then he'll learn from the mistake or the situation and grow as a character. While he never gets over his wussiness, as shown when he's gunning people down left and right and crying uncontrollably because of it, he becomes an incredibly strong character by the end, physically and emotionally. Shinji does not grow as a character. He actually becomes less likable, weaker, physically and metally, and overall intolerable. I can see the point of this, in that that's what happens when you're in these stressful situations, they slowly break you down, but the problem is how much support he gets. He's got a lot of people cheering him on and helping him to turn those horrors and mistakes into learning experiences. He's given challenges and hardships that hurt him but he doesn't grow from any of them, even when he's got people TELLING HIM how to grow from them. He doesn't grow as a character, he devolves. I hate Shinji Ikari. I hate him so much. I don't feel bad for him. His life was a hell but it wasn't his fault. But then he started causing his own problems and refusing to tackle them causing his ultimate, turmoiled state to be his own fault even though he had everyone telling him how to stop that fate from coming and helping him. He had a unified front supporting him and he failed in the most spectacularly frustrating way possible. Yuki on the other hand is super screwed up and, I would say, has MUCH bigger emotional issues to deal with over the course of the story than Shinji does, without a front supporting him at all, let alone a unified one. He only had Yuno unconditionally on his side, and even then she was as much a hazard as she was a boon because she had no sense of how to behave properly. And yet Yuki grew as a character to unbelievable degrees, even shouting the goddamn moral of the story to a knife-wielding, pink-haired, psychotic, delusional, mass-murdering GODDESS.

2. The moral of the story... The moral is quite clearly one of the deepest and most layered there could possibly be. There are so many levels to the moral of the story and that moral itself creates one of the most heart-wrenching moments in anime I think I've ever witnessed. The moral is that people are moulded, shaped by their experiences, whether triumph or tragegy, and to remove any of those drastically alters who that person is. This is why Yuki specifically refuses to be with the "perfect" Yuno, rejecting a hallucinated utopia just to be with his psychotic girlfriend instead. The idea is that he fell in love with a Yuno that had certain experiences that truly ruined her mentally. If he were to try being with a sane Yuno, it would feel wrong because they may look and sound the same, but they simply aren't the same. The perfect Yuno would not have the same personality, imperfections and all, that Yuki came to fall in love with. She would essentially be a stranger wearing his mess up Yuno's skin. Worse, it would feel like a pale imitation and Yuki would always be reminded that this perfect Yuno wasn't the girl he actually loved. In other words, he accept the crazy Yuno for who she is. If he tried, as a crazy guy himself, to get with the perfect Yuno it would feel strange also because they didn't have that shared tragedy between them. Just like how the crazy Yuno wouldn't probably be able to get with the sane Yuki, although she could potentially make him insane enough to make the whole thing work, but that's beside the point and certainly up to debate. My point is that the screwed up versions are meant for each other, they couldn't get with anyone else. It's partly hurtful therefore that Yuno is in a way searching for the perfect Yuki. Additionally, the moral goes even deeper. Remember how Yuki grew as a character? That was because he accepted himself and his imperfections, realizing that without some of the bad moments in his life he wouldn't be the same person. This sort of thing can be seen ALL down the board! Yuki has his parents' divorce that screws him up, Yuno has her... parental issues... that screw her up, the kid has his parent issues that made him the violent person he was, the same with the shrine girl who had issues that royally disturbed her thought processes, and of course there was the two lovers who had an issue and only because of it did they really learn to be there for each other. If you take away that single tragedy, as they did in the third iteration, the people become completely unrecognizable in personality, such that if you knew them a specific way, they would seem like different people, for, veritably, they would be. It's for this reason that the screwed up Yuki can't accept a perfect Yuno. He wants the Yuno he fell in love with, murder streak and all, because to take away even one part about her that's really disturbing would be to irrepairably alter her into someone who Yuki wouldn't know. It wouldn't be the same Yuno without those experiences that made her crazy, that made her the girl he fell in love with. It's so... Romantic... I'm crying... No, really... I totally understand this. No, really, I do. I've contemplated how it would be to go back and do things again and be with people and fix things with them and I always decide it wouldn't be worth it. Because they wouldn't be the same people I cared about. They'd be a different person, a new person. It wouldn't be the same, which is the whole point. This feeds into another part of the moral which is to accept your past and not desire to change it. Well, not entirely. You can wish things didn't happen to you the way they did, you can hate the things that happened, but you shouldn't ever deny them completely because to do that would be to deny a part of yourself. This is seen repeatedly by Minene who keeps talking about "owning it." She means that whatever you do, whatever happens to you, rather than complaining about them forever, you just have to accept that it happened and move on. You can still remember and hate it but you can't just refuse to come to terms with it. That's unhealthy. Minene is the representation of this aspect of the moral entirely, in that she is able to accept her shitty childhood and life in general and know that it's a part of who she is and to take that away would be to remove a piece of her identity, making her someone else. She knows this and does well at holding true to the moral, but she still has issues getting over the past, which is normal. So there's some cognitive dissonance there, how she says to move on but can't herself. She realizes it though whenever she has visions of herself as a child and tries to stifle them because she's trying to move on but somehow can't. She does get over her past completely and is able to move on and that's when she experiences happiness for the first real time. Only once Minene imparts this wisdom to Yuki does he have the courage to realize that he truly does love Yuno, and not just any Yuno, but HIS Yuno, the Yuno that would happily butcher everyone and herself to please him. It's one of the biggest anti-changing history morals ever. If you take away some event, then the result may be better, but it won't be as genuine or people won't have grown up in certain ways. Like, if WW2 never happened. I don't know how things would be different, but things would be very different politically and more because people wouldn't've learned a lesson from the events that transpired during that period of history. It would just cheapen life around you. Take away someone's tragedies and it makes them a different person, it doesn't make them happier, it alters them on a fundamental level into someone unrecognizable and potentially less interesting because hardship builds character. So yeah, I've babbled and been redundant on this, but that's because it's so deep that I can't help but spin my wheels trying to explain it. It's something you just feel in your heart and you know. Trying to explain it is bloody hard. Why don't you bloody try, eh?

That being said: Going back in time to fix everyone's problems is awesome. But how? How can it be that it's awesome to fix people's problems but also say that their problems shouldn't be retroactively fixed? Think about it like this. Changing the past causes differences to the future. BUT. There're some changes that make more of an impact in a certain way. If Lelouch were to go back and fix things, even though the results would be mostly different, people would likely not be as completely altered as the people in Future Diary. Within 2 years, most characters had huge changes to their personalities making them completely different to their previous versions. The people in Code Geass did not change nearly as radically as those of Future Diary. Nina actually had the biggest changes, but even then, it was an arc rather than abrupt changes that played havoc with her personality. Not only that, despite her flaws, she was mostly sane, as were all the other characters. Even if they were crazy, they were functional in such a way that very slight changes to the events around them wouldn't impact their personalities enough to really change who they were down to the fundamentals. SO, Lelouch going back to do things over wouldn't result in him undoing much of people's character growth compared to that of Future Diary. Besides, he'd likely preserve as much of that character growth as possible anyway in doing it again. Also there's the matter of PHYSICALLY going back in time and MENTALLY going back in time. Going back mentally in time, that is to say overwriting the mind of a previous version of yourself with your current mind, is a lot easier to deal with because you don't have that nagging thought of being an outsider to a world that's not yours, like how 1Yuno was in 2World and 3World. That's almost entirely why 2Yuki had such a problem with what she did. She was interloping, breaking the flow of reality simply by BEING in 2World, which is different from overwriting your own mind and starting over with all your knowledge intact. SO: That's why it's okay for Lelouch to do it but not Future Diary. That being said, I'm going to write a story in which that's just what 2Yuki does. Derp.

3. I don't want to write anymore, but I just wanna get this out there, there's barely a dull moment and the whole show continues to top itself over and over again. Except for Akise. I hated him. He was supposed to be an unconditionally good guy, but his snooping around caused problems for Yuki and Yuno which caused Yuno to go even more ballistic just when Yuki was starting to make progress with getting her to be more sane. He was a cock block and it pissed me off. Also, he's an expy of Kaoru, I think that's his name I try not to remember, from Neon Genesis. Why? Why would you ever want to copy anything from Neon Genesis? How dare you? You should be ashamed of yourselves. His introduction was ridiculous too. Hinata had all the bargaining power yet she still gave in to Akise's little game? Why? She should have just killed off everyone and been done with it. It was boring and a waste of time even though there were a grain of loveable material in there in that Yuki manages to outsmart and befriend them all, which is a foreshadowing of his role in all this, that he is going to save everyone in the end. It's just really annoying. The friends are supposed to be helping Yuki, but in the end, their "helping" is really just causing problems for him. He's trying to become God. Whether he gets what he wants from that or not, them berating him about it and shaking him up is not helping him. Like, they can be upset that he's killing people and be personally afraid, but what they do is low blows that make him go even crazier and ruin his resolve that he's worked so hard to develop. I cheered as all hell when he murdered every last one of them. Their hearts were in the right place but what they were doing was causing problems, worse and worse, all the while thinking they're saving the world rather than damning it and ruining the sanity of the only guy who can really save the day. I don't think I'm explaining very well. I don't think I can. I just had just a deep, visceral hate for the behaviour of the friends at the end. Like they were egging Yuki on and taunting him and screwing him over at every turn like it was EVEN THEIR BUSINESS TO BEGIN WITH, and are part of the reason why his relationship with Yuno went souther... Again... If they hadn't got him so paranoid he could've talked Yuno down. REALLY! He could've had a calm discussion with her and they could've decided to make the right choice, which was for Yuki to become God and fix everything, either going to a new timeline and doing as he did there, except without the crazy fights and irrational behaviour from 2nd Yuno and more, but he could've also done something like, go back in time and whisk the 2nd Yuno off to his new private reality to live forever and ever happily ever after, after having a long chat with her about what's acceptable behaviour and what clearly is not. Fuck those friends. They screwed everything up and I was so happy when they were removed from the picture. It's weird. Yuno kept saying they were a problem but Yuki didn't want to believe that, because that's usually the right response in fiction and reality, but Yuno was actually right. Yuno was the only one he could really trust, and even then it would only be after a long chat about what is and isn't acceptable behaviour. Kidnapping and drugging your boyfriend is not acceptable, for example. Because those friends got involved with them not only did they all die, but they screwed up Yuki so much, causing him to doubt Yuno which hurt their relationship and made her more evil and crazy which was the exact opposite of what the plan was, not that they were bright enough to realize the damage they were doing, distract Yuki from accomplishing his goals and hinder him, which is never a good way of endearing yourself to the audience because people don't like cockblocks, actually caused more people to die and more time to be wasted by trying to stop Yuki from taking care of business and just... I hate them all. They were okay until they started getting cocky and thinking they could help. They couldn't. They were in the way. It was sad they had to die, but they'd long since used up their sympathy with the audience and Yuki after the shit they pulled on him without even really realizing what the hell was going on. Did they even know what they were doing? I think not. They didn't even know what their objective was, they didn't have one except to cockblock Yuki from his goals because they didn't understand what the hell was going on. It was none of their business fuckinosdginslg GRAH! Yeah, fuck them.

4. I can't remember what else there was because I'm so angry at those friend for screwing around with someone else's business when they didn't even know what was going on and couldn't seem to realize how much their "help" was pissing off Yuki and the audience. Even if they "succeeded," what success would that be? What did they want again? They wanted Yuki to stop killing people? They wanted him to kill Yuno? So what if he did that? If the Diary Owners didn't do their thing the universe would die for nothing. And just... What did you hope to accomplish other than being a problem that becomes more and more annoying every second? You all deserved to die. I don't even know why Yuki wasted time listening and talking to them all before killing them. He should've just killed them all and moved on because he could "just revive them later." Seriousy. Fuck them. And Akise especially. Fuck him the most. He was just a fuckin' cockblock that stirred up dissent and trouble without really adding to things. He solved a mystery that ONLY HE CARED ABOUT. Nobody cared about the dead people in Yuno's closet after more important things started happening. He was still all hung up on those bodies when Yuki had more or less dropped the issue completely to patch up his relationship with Yuno so they could focus on more important things like the END OF THE UNIVERSE. Of course Yuki still wanted to know, but he had more important things to worry about and also knew that it would be a touchy subject that he'd have to be tactful about with Yuno. He tried his best and would have succeeded in TALKING THE ANSWER OUT OF HER if his friends hadn't gotten him so paranoid and put so many cockblocks between them that Yuno didn't fully trust Yuki anymore. Altogether, the issues could have been resolved with a little chat between Yuki and Yuno if only the friends had stayed out of it. Fuck them. I hate them all so much. They were cool. But then they tried to be important when they weren't 1-12 in the Future Diary Game. That would be like if Rivalz Cardemonde tried to... I can't even make a comparison because even Rivalz is more awesome than any of those idiots. What were they trying to prove by mouthing off to Yuki when it was clear he was tired of their bullshit? Just... Goddammit.

Yeah, actually there are some things and parts that bore me to death and annoy me. It's a mixed bag. But it's still one of my favourites for what it does right, or what it does close enough to right.

Mirai Nikki: Redial

Unnecessary. The only thing is this: Memories make a person. Even after being a good guy with L, once Light regained his memories of being Kira, he instantly resumed his plot, rather than reevaluating his previous actions based on his experiences as good guy. So, Third-World Yuno would have completely become First-World Yuno. Even so, it just feels kind of cheap that it's not really the First-World Yuno. It's just not the same. It's just a little bit unsettling to know it's not really the same person completely. It's not like First-World Yuno's memories overwrote Third-World Yuno's memories. They were added on. Plus, First-World Yuno played The Game twice, meaning she'd have many battle scars from BOTH rounds. Plus she was devirginized. Third-World Yuno's body isn't quite the same. Like I said, it just feels a little cheaper than it should. The first ending is fine.

I liked it, but mostly only at the beginning. The reason is because the Sins were invincible and it allowed them to be funny. Also, there were super beatdowns of bad guys. Then for some reason all the Sins just get destroyed by everybody, making me question why they got this special status as invincible. Like, seriously, they get DESTROYED! Then there's this stupid shit where they don't just kill anybody. I hate that. I detest that. Just kill the fucker already! Then one of the bad girls turns to the good side, which I won't accept because she killed Veronica and is all-around shifty and evil. Fuck this. Just everything. Fuck this everything.

Naruto

There are good moments in here several good points in its favour, but I feel compelled to give this the lowest score possible because of several fundamental flaws. What I mean to say is no matter how many little things that are done right, like how there are interesting characters, there's always a downside too, the interesting characters do not get enough development, as well as even worse, core problems with the way the story is approached and told, along with overcomplications, most often involving family trees, but also including other things like how the magic eye powers work and the different countries and their political systems (could have been completely left out saving time and logic) and who exactly Pein is (the main Pein should have been the original body or something and he split his consciousness or whatever else it could be, just not have this other guy Nagato who nobody cared about and who only overcomplicated the backstory to Pein) and just so many other things. Simply put, there are FUNDAMENTAL issues with Naruto that make it terrible. This isn't something that could be fixed with a few extra lines of dialogue, these are core problems that would require a complete overhaul of the story starting at the beginning to fix. That being said, a whole lot would stay in place, but things would be left out if they added layers of bullshit, characters would get the requisite amount of development or not exist at all, and so much else would just be approached in a better way. Part of what would help is if the story were sped up a bit. Code Geass for example had so much going on but it was done very quickly to the point that every episode is distinct. I can remember every episode and what happened in Code Geass because every episode contained one core event. It's only episodes like the endings of the two seasons where events blur considerably and it's much harder to remember what exactly happened when. Whatever, point is, Naruto sucks because it's flawed from the very bottom level. Here are some points explaining that, (with some overlap from this rant here):

Number 1, the tone is completely wrong. The way global politics are in this show, the tone should be grimdark. But it isn't.

Number 2, Sasuke is awful with no redeeming qualities at all. He starts off as mildly unlikable, though you can tell he's sort of an okay guy underneath his very unpleasant exterior. But he just becomes more and more of a jerkass with a heart of jerkass. This would be fine, but only if the characters acknowledged that he was a fucking asshole. But Naruto and Sakura don't. They somehow believe there's a way to make him not be an asshole anymore even after it's far too late, seeing as regardless of whether he has a heel-face-turn or not, he's committed so many international crimes and done and said so many morally reprehensible things without the slightest sign of him even appearing to realize that his actions aren't okay he should be strung up and lynched to the wild applause of the audience while the mob onscreen sings Kumbaya as his corpse swings from the noose.

Number 3, the whole story goes all over the place and is shit. No, really. The final battle is a ninja war between who? ALL the ninja nations and dude this is so fucking stupid. There's no tension compared to human on human killing. The fights are often good, but there're too many flashbacks obstructing every other minute of the show and everyone stands around during fights, just... standing there... staring at each other like they can't remember what happens next in the script. Let's also not forget the horribly repetitive, retarded tactics of using shadow clones and no real core skills Naruto always employs, the constant training episodes that are boring and pointless, asspull victories over the bad guys, NO character development for people that really should have it, STUPID things, just so many so incredibly STUPID I can't even explain properly though I can try: Nagato should not have existed, for example. Pein should have been something, someone else, those six dudes, something, but having some puppet-master controlling the Peins somewhere else was dumb. It makes it less menacing when Naruto isn't even fighting the bad guy. Also, the Rinnegan doesn't seem to do anything. People keep saying it's super great, but it doesn't make sense. It's an eye power, but it has nothing to do with the eyes, all it does it make you able to do different chakras and do some other special jutsus? That has nothing to do with the eyes, and just... THAT'S RETARDED. Imagine if Haku had magic eyes too, and it was because of those magic eyes she (yes, I say she, that he was a guy was stupid and overly complicated for no real reason with no point) was able to make ice jutsus. It's the same thing as the Rinnegan. It doesn't have a logical reason to be connected. Eyes typically have a sight-related power, or line of sight for activation of a power. In Code Geass, the Geass power didn't always have to do with the eyes even though the sigil of Geass appeared in them. Mao for example could read minds, something that had no link to the eyes. BUT even if he didn't have eyes, the power would still activate. In this case, what you have is a power that is only related to the eyes in the sense that the magic-looking eyes are a by-product of the power being used, kind of like how your stove gets red when it heats up to cook something. So the Rinnegan was dumb. That's just a few examples, but overall, the story, or rather more importantly, ALL the events that happen in it are completely retarded or are gone over in a retarded way. I could rewrite the whole story, keeping most if not all of the plotpoints intact while making everything so much better and more polished. As I said, the tone should be grimdark. Just approaching the same events in a different tone could make things so much better. Also, I would give character development to important characters, for example Sakura, who is the most useless piece of shit there ever was ever. Sakura is actually worse than pointless. Because of her mere existence, the show is slowed down incredibly, which makes an already overly long show even worse. She gets more powerful, but is never shown to have improved in any MEANINGFUL way. There are things she does that are helpful, but never anything that really cements her as an effectual character as a whole. She is shown to have super strength now, but all she ever does is whine and complain and administer Phoenix Downs to characters she should be surpass as far as importance to the story. But that's not the case. I just read about the ending to this. It's awful. There was NEVER any indication that Naruto liked Hinata, OH, that's another example of why this show is shit, Pein nuked the Leaf Village and killed all the characters that we really didn't care about anyway, but cared enough about to feel bad that they were dead. But then he just revived them all, rendering the entire emotional situation null and void. Tsunade was in a coma but then she just got better. No, she should have died. There are no lasting consequences in this show. It's fucking despicable. But seriously, the ending, man. Naruto and Hinata? WHAT? It's not that I don't like the couple, I could see it working, though I find it unlikely and forced, but there was no indication throughout the story that there was really something there between them. It was just Hinata stalking Naruto and him not getting it that she liked him. Then she got stabbed by Pein, and she should have died because that would create an emotional response with the audience, but no, just fuck you because you think removing all tension is a good idea, you fucking sodcocker. Then Sakura and Sasuke? WHHAAAAAT!? As I said before, Sasuke deserved a terrifyingly ironic karmic death for his behavior. That he gets off scot-free and has a kid with Sakura is ridiculous and morally outraging. Not to mention Sakura should have realized she never really loved him anyway because there was nothing between them. She was a 12 year old girl with a crush and he was an asshole who never liked her even until the end and continually mistreated her. Why did they get together? Battered housewife much? And this is supposed to be a happy ending for them both? You fucking ROTTEN cockmongling BINT of a fucking shit-infested------.

This is an essay on the subject of Sasuke. It was written by Gaawa-chan. It summarizes Sasuke's douchbaggery with examples I was thinking of but couldn't produce in my own writing.

Sasuke started to rub me the wrong way in Chapters 48-49, and again in Chapter 66. After Tsunade revived him, that was the end. I just couldn’t like him anymore.

During the fight at the Valley of the End, my dislike became intense, and when he was reintroduced in the time-skip, it turned from dislike to loathing. As time went by, my negative opinion of his character was further intensified when he spoke to Tobi regarding his 'hatred.' In those few moments of the series, Sasuke proved beyond a doubt that he is selfish, spoiled, hypocritical, over dramatic, childish, and completely unworthy of any form of respect.

• He contradicts the vast majority of the themes in the series and gets away with things no other character would be permitted to.

• He is a bastard to those that care about him and doesn’t realize his ‘cool and distant tortured soul act’ actually gets him attention- even if it just makes him look like a self-righteous prick. He shows respect to no one and seems unable to handle the possibility that anyone could be stronger than him, especially those from his graduating class. His indifference towards others is despicable; he makes it very obvious that he does not care about something if it is not in relation to his own well-being.

• He belittles Naruto and if anything detracts focus from him and actually worsens Naruto’s situation- i.e. the episode with Sakura and the seat. Sasuke seems to go out of his way to insult and demean others, as if to build up is own bruised ego. He thinks sees himself as being superior to others because ‘he’s an Uchiha’ and treats his friends as tools for power, and yet as an ungodly inferiority complex, despite graduating at the top of his class and having roves of girls slavering all over him. He throws a pity party for himself because his family was murdered when others in the series have gone through worse and come out smiling. He’s a sore loser who’s too proud to ask for help.

• He is bitter, spiteful, jealous, and a coward to top it all off. See chapters 12 and 48-49 if you want to argue. Sasuke is a spoiled, immature brat, who doesn’t realize how good he has it, brooding when he could be doing something constructive. His priorities are out of order; What if he died seeking revenge before 'restoring his clan'?

• He grows up full of hatred simply because Itachi- the same man who wiped out their family- told him to. He has a chance to stick it to Itachi by rebuilding his life, creating a second family from his friends, moving on, and instead he chooses to do exactly what Itachi says.

• He relies completely on the Sharingan, and copies others’ techniques rather than putting in his own effort, and then has the gall to say that he will fight Itachi in his own way, with his own power, AND THEN betrays the people who trust him to join Orochimaru- the man who wants to kill ‘every man, woman, and child in Konoha’- because Orochimaru could ‘give’ him power- that was not his own- ‘the fastest,’ rather than staying and working for it in Konoha, or finding help from someone who isn’t an evil mass murderer. He thinks everything in life should be handed to him on a silver platter, that he shouldn’t have to pay for power- indeed, he expects it because ‘he’s an Uchiha.’ Worse still, he flip-flops yet again when he decides to take Itachi's eyes at his convenience because of his own carelessness so that he can use them in such a way that Itachi, the brother he claims to respect and love, would disapprove of.

• He decided to kill Itachi while never bothering to find out the reason behind the Uchiha Massacre. He is so intent on revenge, he seems unable to comprehend that once he attains it his life will no longer have any meaning. He has thrown away everything for his revenge. Subsequently, he has become caught in a cycle of hatred, unable to do anything else but seek revenge on those he holds responsible for ‘ruining his life’ when he ruined his own life far more completely than anyone else could have.

• He is the most easily manipulated character in the series, doing what Itachi wanted him to do, doing what Orochimaru wanted him to do (though that was reciprocated), and now doing what Tobi wants him to do. Sasuke bought into everything that Tobi told him and immediately set out to kidnap an innocent man in order to gain power from someone who admitted to aiding in the massacre of his clan so he could gain the power to destroy a village full of ignorant innocents in order to satisfy his thirst for revenge.

• He almost killed Naruto and Sakura multiple times. He almost killed Sai, Yamato, and Karin once, and endangered the lives of Shikamaru, Chouji, Neji, Kiba, Gaara, Kankuro, and Temari, and is responsible for the deaths of the Sound Five. He is also responsible for the deaths of Orochimaru, Deidara, Itachi, and Danzo, and indirectly responsible for the deaths/crimes Orochimaru has committed since he joined Orochimaru because we saw that he helped Orochimaru conquer enemies. He attempted to kidnap an innocent person and send him to his death in exchange for power, endangered his companions multiple times needlessly and selfishly, then abandoned two of them and injured another in the pursuit of his revenge. He killed many samurai and attacked and injured other upstanding characters.

As of now, he is guilty of treason, multiple counts of assault, multiple counts of attempted murder and murder, attempted kidnapping, aiding a terrorist organization, and many other crimes. He rationalizes his actions by playing the victim. Well, I say no unaccountability, no excuses. FUCK SASUKE UCHIHA.

Too much talking. Too little happening. Things don't make sense even while watching in chronological order. I don't really see where this is supposed to go. Artsyness is a distraction. Stop that and just tell a story. But you can't do that. No, of course you can't.

One Punch Man 2nd Season
This was kinda terrible. Garo is an awful character and is incorrect in this story. He has a stupid backstory for becoming a violent psychopath, which is appropriate for One Punch Man, but we're also supposed to feel bad for him, which is NOT One Punch Man. Either give him a good backstory that we can appreciate him for, or give him a bad one that we can take as a joke. Those are the only combinations, otherwise it doesn't make him funny or sympathetic. You lose. Furthermore, anyone who says the ONLY joke is that Saitama one punches things is an idiot. There are many more jokes than that, and even then it wouldn't get boring. People act like there's only one way for a story to go or one joke you can go with and it'll get stale, unable to grasp that there's such a thing as good writing, in which you can overcome such smallminded barriers. Not enough Saitama in this. Not enough Genos.

Not funny, drawn out, sending mixed messages with Garo, no resolutions, and even the fights are boring. Jesus, god, how did you fuck it up so badly?

This was good. I really liked the art, the design for the main girl's eyes was nice, and hell, for a European-style fantasy story, it was pretty good. I also liked the DBZ-style music. That weird techno bassline thing like Cell was pretty sweet too. I might have to rewatch at some point.

RahXephon

What is RahXephon? It's an odd conglomeration of ideas, really. Its most striking similiarities are with Neon Genesis, but there's a huge Matrix element to the whole thing, of what's real, what's not real, choosing between the red pill and the blue pill, everyone in the Matrix/Jupiter is your enemy until you get them out, and hell, the tuning of the world is kind of like the backstory to how the world was created in LotR.

Just like Neon Genesis, you finish RahXephon confused to the point of tears, (or was that just me?), but quite unlike Neon Genesis, which just leaves a bad taste in your mouth when you're done, RahXephon leaves a smile on your face.

It's all about the execution.

The process of watching Neon Genesis is grueling. Every episode is a chore to get through. Shinji's also a complete wanker. Literally.

Compare it to RahXephon where the romances are clear and enjoyable and the protagonist isn't a complete pussy despite having to deal with issues, which, in my opinion, are WAY more upsetting than simply that his daddy didn't love him enough.

While at the end of the day you're just as confused after watching RahXephon as Neon Genesis--no, less confused, because while in RahXephon they tell us exactly what's going on, shame on us for not having the hypothetical supercomputer brains to understand it all, Neon Genesis makes no effort to keep us in the loop as to what the fuck is going on at all, so even if it actually is a simpler concept to get your head around, there's no way to do that because you don't have enough information to put it together-- the process of getting confused was at least enjoyable. In Neon Genesis, the process is not enjoyable, it's frustrating and this is helped considerably by the wanker of a main character.

Shingeki no Kyojin

The show had a good startup and a magnificent buildup until the Battle of Trost, which was also awesome, except it went on for too long because of protracted inner monologues and people standing around doing nothing all the goddamn time, wasting MY time for even bothering to watch them stand around, then everything with Erin becoming a titan, that was good, that made sense, but it was implemented so incredibly shoddily and then there was another human titan and we can guess there are others like the big one and the armoured one and we have no idea why they would turn on their own people and how in the hell they would even be titans in the first place considering Erin's dad was specifically bio-engineering Erin to be humanity's savior, so just... God this whole thing is terrible just in general. Up to the end of Trost it looked amazing and things were good, but after that ended, the daze we were left in from the sheer balls to the wall horror of the situation shriveled up and we were treated to boring, Narutoesque in-canon filler. I cared more about the random Scouts being killed all over the place than I did about the deaths of Team Levi because they were just redshirts who were doing their job and didn't do anything to deserve the utterly horrific and humiliating deaths they received. I didn't care when Team Levi died because they were assholes who mistreated Erin at every opportunity and at every other opportunity treated him like a child who didn't, you know, have superpowers. I hated how willing everyone was to work with the stupid shit-eating bureaucrats and outright corrupt police. I don't know what would've been better, but their just giving in for multiple episodes without moving along with the goddamn story was disgusting. Compare this with fucking Lelouch, yes, that's right, I don't call it Code Geass, I call it Lelouch because he was just that good, compare the two animes and you'll see an amazing difference, and that's that in Lelouch you care about almost every character, and more importantly, things fucking happen every episode. LOTS of things, which causes us to care and stay involved. Why was the battle of Trost so awesome? Because we'd been with the characters for 5 years, which, I have to repeat, was drawn out beyond the limit of bored to tears, basically all being pointless and specific events and speeches that we thought might be important later but joke's on us, they weren't. And even then I couldn't name any of the characters but Erin, Mikasa, Harmon, Jean and Sasha until way later after the herd had been thinned a bit, and even still I didn't really know them, or their names, I just acknowledged that they appeared early on and still hadn't died yet.

On the subject of characters, Erin was cliché, but not in a bad way. We actually felt for him. There was one thing they could have really explored in his character and that was how he felt about Mikasa. Mikasa treats Erin like a child and tries to take care of him, which is conceivably the most insulting thing she could possibly do to him on top of being better than him at everything without even trying when Erin has to work his ass off just to have no success whatsoever anyways. It's even worse because fighting titans isn't just something he's trying really hard to do, it's something he's devoted his LIFE to doing. He's not offended that Levi is better than him, but that's because he didn't grow up with Levi. Because of the close bond Erin and Mikasa share, it becomes harder to deal with her successes while Erin has NONE of his own. Perhaps if he was good at what he did and got the respect he deserved for doing it, he wouldn't mind her being better, but that's simply not the case and no matter what happens, Erin never wins. He can't even get a personal victory, which leaves him feeling impotent and resentful of Mikasa to an astounding degree. Maybe he could deal with her trying to protect him otherwise, but as it is, it comes off as a terrific insult, a tacit admission that he's a failure who can't take care of himself. It's only made worse by the precedent set up by their first meeting, in which he comes out of nowhere with a Kubrick stare and a crazed look in his eyes and kills the SHIT out of her kidnappers. For him to have to endure a complete turnabout of the situation where now he's the one who needs saving must leave him resentful as all fuck, to the point that he'd want to just leave and not talk to her for a while, if ever again. Let's not forget, he just turned 15. His hormones would make that slight seem even more monolithic than ever. So yeah. There's a lot going on with him, but it's never really addressed in the depth that it should be which just leaves him as incomplete. He's still pretty cool, but not fully fleshed out.

Mikasa was boring. There's more to her than that, specifically how she feels about Erin, much in the same way that the depth to him is how he feels about her, but it's not quite as important to me and I don't feel like going into it. Harmon, yeah, that's what I call him, was one of my favourites and I thought he was going to have a big'ol arc where he was going to be get toughened up and actually do something useful. Of course he made a couple of plans, but that's not what it takes to make the audience appreciate him. He has to actually DO something on his own and get even ONE token kill at the very least. Compare once again to Lelouch. Lelouch makes the plans but also goes straight onto the battlefield and participates in the fight. He's not high up on the murder list like Kallen, but he proves that he's not above being a combatant and even if you don't count all the people his troops kill by his orders, he still kills at least 2 people directly, dozens with his geass, and a few hundred more by strategic bomb emplacements, traps and even in his knightmare, something Harmon never quite manages to accomplish. He just sort of stands and gets scared or runs around doing nothing to help deal with the problem, or makes a plan in which he runs around and does nothing. That's lame.

Jean was one of my favourites. He was a real jerk, but the Battle of Trost changed him. He had an arc, which is a lot better than anyone else in this. He still never got in a kill throughout the whole show though, if I'm recalling right. Another disappointment. Honestly, besides Mikasa and Harmon, after Trost, Jean would be Erin's most devoted comrade, except that's not quite what happens. I just get irritated with how dismissive he is of important things like when Titan Erin shows up and starts kicking ass, and how much inner goddamn monologue he has to have about every goddamn thing without ever doing anything awesome to back it up. He never proves himself to the audience in any meaningful way. True, it was good that he joined the Scouts, but that's only step one. It was outright explained that he was especially talented at titan killing, yet he never gets to do anything. GOD. For all intents and purposes, he's just THERE. Hell, if he's just have spent less time being indecisive and mentally whining, he could have made a SUPREME replacement for Erin as the protagonist if it weren't for Erin's titan transformation, (which, by the way, wasn't handled very well anyways) basically going through a trial by fire and coming out jaded and sorrowful, like Erin in Jiganshina, and willing to step up to take Erin's place as the inspiration leader and badass extraodinare that Erin never got the chance to be because he died. He would embody Erin's ideals and follow through with them, but be tempered and thoughtful, rather than boisterous and reckless. This is what they were trying to do with Simon and Kamina in Gurren Lagann, but that failed miserably because Kamina wasn't designed to be a sacrificial character. He was shown to be the mentor and the determinator and the leader, egging his crew on to greater and greater exploits. In short, he was supposed to be a living symbol and a useful, incredibly badass cheerleader of sorts. Erin on the other hand was a perfectly desposable character, having more meaning and influence in death than in life, becoming a symbol to his people through his legacy of resistence and his selfless sacrifice to save his friend. Basically, Kamina's would have been able to spur his people on best in life, and Erin would be able to do the same best by dying. Then Jean would come and replace him in role, but never in spirit, which would be awesome. But Erin didn't die, and that's fine. It could have worked out better, but it just wasn't handled well enough. Jean didn't get to do enough to show the audience the magnitude of his character development and complete 180 in attitude. Just like how Harmon never got to do anything to show he'd grown as a character.

Now, I need to return to the whole point of what I was talking about. We cared about the Battle of Trost because it focused on characters that we, at least partially, cared about as they navigated Armageddon. That was pretty great. They were exposed to some really intense shit, forged in battle tempered in blood, one might even say. All of those characters fresh out of cadet academy had an awful first day on the job, and the ones who survived would go on to become battle-hardened veterans. Except they didn't. They all suck at doing anything and puss out and have long discussions about nothing and inner monologues about not pussing out and more stupidity in which we see they're still just as pathetic and green as they were on their first day joining the academy. What the fuck? Not only that, they get replaced by far more "important" characters who we care nothing about and who act like insecure, fear mongering assholes when it was established they were more reasonable and stoney faced than anyone else because they served under Levi. Then they all get killed because they don't want to use their super awesome anti-titan weapon (Erin). We're supposed to feel sorry for them? Why? The only reason I feel bad is because they were good at dealing with enemy mookd and without them humanity has lost some of their best soldiers in a military that is clearly organized a la BLEACH (only the captains are effective enough to do the most basic of things, everyone else just being literal meat shields to slow the bad guys down by drowning them in the corpses of the fallen before the captains swoop in to take care of the problem).

On about Erin again. We established that he had a force of will and a burning anger and hate that drove him to be the best titan-hunter he could be. After a downer first fight in which he didn't do anything but save Harmon while he was petrified with fear, then get eaten, all he ever does is get pushed around and suck at everything and, what happened to his iron resolve and desire to kill titans, you may be asking. Well, it all goes away and he sucks up to authority and gets all chickenshit, never again doing anything of value. He's only able to do anything in titan form, but he can barely even transform in the first place and he's next to useless even after doing so after a million unsuccessful tries.

There's one other thing I wanted to address specifically. The dad had the key to the cellar and that was important, but then Erin got the key somehow? And then even after he realizes the importance of the cellar, he doesn't do what any sane writer would have him do and bring this up to Levi who either makes an appeal to go straight for the cellar, or just takes a secret, unapproved mission including all of Erin's friends from cadet school, namely, himself, Mikasa, Harmon, Jean, Sasha, and Connie, or put simpler, the only ones whose names I can even remember given that character development is poor for even the people who have the most screen time, who'd all become disillusioned with the military structure after the Battle of Trost due to general incompetence and cowardice of the supposed "professionals" while simultaneously becoming loyal to Erin because of his resolve and ability to actually make good on his boasts of taking the fight to the titans, (which he never managed to do anyway since he was eaten first thing of the battle) and go forth into titan-held land and make their way to the cellar in Jiganshina to find a way to deal with the titans once and for all, at which point Erin could get the final ingredient in his titan-juice cocktail to perfect the transformation, or even allow the transformation in the first place, and he'd be able to return to the human held lands to present his findings and be able to save everybody over the course of another 25 episode campaign. While this epic journey is taking place, character development occurs for all main characters such that we actually know what their names are for starters and what they're like so we actually give a damn about them so it means something when God himself marks them for an unpleasant, gruesome death scene. Everybody's just so one-dimensional, but you can tell there's hidden potential in each one of them that's just aching to get out.

Now, I've heard it said in response to a suggestion of a plot overhaul such as this, that it would be cheapening the thematic elements of loss and whatever else, as well as making the whole thing cliche and generic, like Naruto. What I have to say to that is this: It wouldn't be making anything generic or cliche. The closest thing to what I've suggested would be any zombie movie where the characters have a necessary objective to furthering their own survival. Done with titans instead, it hardly steps on any other stories' toes. And as it actually went down, people outright ignored what was obviously the most important thing possible to their dying civilization and what should have been the driving force behind most of season 1 right after Trost: the cellar and what's inside it. Let's look at how things actually went down. There's a bunch of pointless debating about whether a person is a titan or not and pretty much everything involving the scouts and joining them is pointless and emotionless, mostly because it's drawn out like sin. The Scouts decide to go on a roundabout mission to NOT EVEN GO TO THE CELLAR, but plan out a route to get there. It's boring. It would be boring even if they hurried the fuck up and cut out 2 episodes worth of pointless material. Once it was mentioned that they always lose because giving the protagonists a predictable win all the time would cheapen the story and make things generic. No one is advocating that. Some people just acknowledge that constant loss makes for bothersome viewing. There has to be some positive in the story, or else the constant defeats feel contrived. Likewise, if it was a logical defeat, it would be alright. Trost once again, ladies and gentlemen. The humans lost and it made sense that they would, so even though we, the audience, feel bad, we don't feel insulted by the show itself. Compare to the female titan showing up out of nowhere JUST to ruin everything for our heroes. The writers decided things were going too well and pulled out the first idea that came out of their ass and threw it at the heroes like a giant cockblock of gorey douchbaggery. When you have to make something up just so your heores don't win, you've fallen into a bad place in writing, one that ruins your audience's trust in your writing. Lelouch is an example of things always going wrong, but not being contrived, while still counterbalancing those negative things with small victories, or at least personal victories. Example: Shirley is about to join Zero when Rolo decides that the audience would like that too much and murders the shit out of her. The audience gives a collective shout of outraged disappointment at this, but doesn't feel betrayed by the writers because it was a logical cockblock. Besides, after that Zero goes and kills everyone associated with the Geass Order, so that cockblock was counterbalanced. You see? Attack on Titan has the audacity to not only include contrived cockblocks, but also no counterbalance of positive. Even Warhammer 40k does that! You know, the inventor of the term "grimdark?" The universe where every story starts with a depressing exposition about the shit quality of life in the galaxy ending with the revelation that everyone in it is in a neverending constant state of all-encompassing war? Even THAT has occasional counterbalances of positive to the ovewhelming negative. But back on track now, the way things happened, it was boring. I understand the attempt at realism here, that it's not all action when you're trying to survive a siege, but that doesn't make for good television, now does it? You have to be concise, even if you're showing that things take a long time, or even just going over people's reactions. Episode 5 was great and was a perfect example of this. They had a montage of what everyone what going through before they actually went out to fight, though now that I think about it, a lot of the reactions people had were a little bit too much. Given none of the cadets had actually even seen any titans yet, besides maybe the colossal one, being so afraid you puke your guts out is kind of strange, but I digress. The point is that they managed to go over things quickly right there, to give us the feeling of dread immediately without spending episodes upon episodes mulling about it and going back and forth on pointless shit like CLEANING A HOUSE and whether or not Erin should be trusted, over and over. If you'd followed my idea, all of that could have been avoided. Oh, who am I kidding, they'd fuck it up anyway. Additionally, people have gotten complainy that having Erin as the only titan is cliche because he's the superweapon of god-mode, just like Ichigo Kurosaki, or Naruto, or any other shonen protagonist, so having bad titan people is good, or something like that. I have something to say on that subject too. The way it's introduced is complete rubbish. It was shown all along that Erin had something up with him, so when he becomes a titan it's at least somewhat acceptable as plausible. When all of a sudden Annie shows up as a titan, and it's so incredibly obvious it's her, it comes as a dual "flat what" because Annie until this point didn't get much screen time at all and I barely even knew her name, and also because there was no hint that she could become a titan and no reason for that to even be possible. It comes out of nowhere, but not in a good way. Not everything needs to be foreshadowed, BUT, if you decide to have something like that come out of left field, you had better fucking make sure not to make it something stupid like this. You know how it came across here? I refer you to "DOOM: Repercussions of Evil." To simplify, the writing in that terrible story introduces new and abrupt inconceivable elements one after the other. "And then Annie was titan." Why? Because fuck you, that's why. Then Reiner and Bertholt are also titans. I didn't even know who they were. Reiner, though he gets more screen time than other characters, is generic and not very noticeable, such that even when he was onscreen, I always thought he was just another nameless guy in the army, not someone who will have an impact on this story. Bert is even worse. Ymir is even worse than that, if that's even possible. It's so bad I don't even remember to include her as a titan 90% of the time, she was that unnoticeable. Even if it's supposed to be a twist, you at least need to have them be in the spotlight a bit more so that the twist means something. Otherwise the big twist is some dudes who we might have seen a couple times, or something, are also titans. There's no shock, no resonance like, "Holy SHIT, Harmon was a traitor all along!?" or something like that. It's just dumb. In fact, Reiner, Annie, Bertholdt, Ymir, hell, Christa and a couple others too if you really wanted, could just be cut from the show entirely and most people wouldn't notice. Stupid fans of this stupid show have said doing so would dumb it down and make it generic. I say no, it really wouldn't, it would make it more focused and enjoyable, even if the theme of loss and defeat is still present. Even if it WERE generic, it's better to be generic and functional than faux-clever and detestable. My whole point is that you could rewrite Attack on Titan to have an objective for the characters to pursue and focus ON those characters as they do so, while STILL retaining the dark and looming atmosphere of the original version, thus getting all the benefit of that atmosphere and originality without compromising character quality and realism from not having asspulls that needlessly complicate things FOR THEIR OWN SAKE. That must be emphasized. In Lelouch, all the crazy twists and turns were there for a reason, to enhance the story without deviating from what's established already and what's established as possible or plausible within the context of that universe. Except the iceburg ship. That was completely out of place. I think the writers really wanted a popsicle when they were doing that episode and they projected while they worked.

I said things took too long, but that's not exactly correct. It takes too long for them to do anything per episode, thus resulting in very little actually happening in each episode. Because things take so long to get done, there's no time to character-build. Compare this to Lelouch, which, in my opinion, has the best introductory episode ever. In the first episode a LOT is established and actually happens. The episodes starts, BOOM, there's a racap of a war and car/helicopter chase. We learn about the social system in the world in 2017, we meet Lelouch and learn he's a genius and can actually accomplish things, we learn how he feels about the totalitarian government, we learn about the terrorist factions, we learn about geass and knightmare technology, we meet SO many characters that will be important later on, there's an urban war scenario between some knightmares, 2 suicide bombings, one on tv, one by Nagisa, we learn about Ashford Academy and that Lelouch goes there, we get a sense of how he fits in to all this, we see Lelouch gain a godmode ability and actually wield it to incredible effect and we see that he understands of how helpful this will be for him in starting a nationwide rebellion. That's only the first episode. In Attack on Titan, rather than the first episode, because that was good and was exactly what it needed to be, let's compare to later episodes where they're in the middle of a warzone and a great deal is happening. Well, not all the much is happening actually. Mikasa kills some titans, makes a merchant stop being stupid, then goes to see some of her buddies only to find Erin isn't among them. She leads them out to the HQ and she falls down and whines before a titan shows up and saves her. That's it. Compare the volume of shit that actually gets accomplished. This stays steady in both animes such that Lelouch allows so much to happen per episode there's room to spare for character development that's not a part of the main action. So it's kind of a weird situation for me where I'm telling it to slow down and take its time to fully flesh out the characters and give them some meaning while also shouting at the screen for the show to hurry up and get on with it.

Overall, I hated this show and I see why it got the hype at first, but ultimately failed in exactly the same way Sword Art did, and others which I can't even think of. Oh, like Black Butler. That's one that had a good premise and good things about it, but failed because of compounding plot holes and all of season 2. Lelouch was fairly constant with its quality of storytelling, in my opinion, though I can see where people'd get annoyed with the China business and the lensman arms race and something I too get annoyed with, Emperor Lelouch the suicidal maniac. It's still better than this shit, that's obvious enough.

The hype was as hype always is. Thinking shit is really good just because a kernel of intact corn is in there. I would give Attack on Titan a higher score, like a 3 or 4, but I have to give the lowest score out of principle. I keep getting this stupid shit where things just fall apart and people are so stupid they can't even see it. It's just appalling what happened and failed to happen in this show and as such I'm giving it an appalling grade.

Also, the dub was really good. Harmon's scream in episode 5 was vastly superior in English than it was in Jap. I don't even need other examples because that's enough on its own. All the dub haters don't know what they're talking about. The voices are fine, and I say even preferable because it seems to me the dubbers have a better understanding of how characters actually feel and how they would react in real life than the Jap actors do. Might I just say, it might just be because I don't know Japanese fluently, but all the Jap actors sound the same whereas I can recognize the English characters by voice alone. I wouldn't be able to do the same for the Jap actors. Maybe that's just me, but seriously, everyone needs to calm down about dubs. They're good. Dubs are good in general and can be even better than the Jap, especially if the setting doesn't take place in Japan. FMA, Cowboy Bebob, Hellsing, Black Lagoon, Black Butler, do I need more examples? This doesn't take place in Japan, so Jap actors are little out of their element. It's not their fault. We can't blame them, they try their darnest after all, but it's just cold hard facts that someone from a culture of European descent, like the U.S., can perform for a European cultured character better than a Jap actor. Simple as that. It's an inherent advantage. Similarly, stories that take place in Japan between Japanese characters and involving super-Japanese environments or situations will almost certainly be performed better by Japanese actors. I still like dubs though. How can someone pay attention to the goddamn spiderman shit going on when we have to read the fucking words at the bottom of the screen that go by too quickly to be read anyways? Fuck that shit, fuck subs, and fuck you.

Holy shit. This is amazing. It's... This just hits you in the feels in a way you could never expect from the opening premise. Everything is perfect. That's no exaggeration. This anime has left me more satisfied than any other fiction I can recall in my life. Why? Because Okabe reaches the Steins;Gate. He actually reaches it! I've decided to use the term in real life now, to describe good situations, all because of how perfect this show was and how happy the ending made me. The movie's quite fitting, but not quite as good and not necessary either. But just... This made me so nervous and then so sad and then so incredibly happy. It's perfect. From start to finish this show is perfect.

It's not quite as good as the rest of the show and not necessary either, but it's fitting and somewhat satisfying to see Kurisu fully understanding what kind of fridge horrors and outright nightmare fuel Okabe had to deal with.

Oh, and it raises more questions and confuses things incredibly when everything was wrapped up quite nicely at the end of the show, the 25th episode notwithstanding.

Sword Art Online

I have a great many things to say about SAO.

First of all, I want to get that whole "marriage" business out of the way. YES! It IS stupid that they want to get married! That's the point! They're teenagers who don't know what the fuck they're talking about! That's also how they fell in "love" so quickly, although a great deal of it was offscreen due to the time-skips and at least part of their marriage is metaphorical. They're horny teenagers who are in a fantasy setting where they don't have to deal with the real-world struggles involved in being married. That said, it's hinted by Asuna that she knows this is the case when she says she wants to be with Kirito in the real world and fall in love with him for real. I actually really enjoyed their relationship because it was so simple. They didn't have other factors to consider. It was only them and the world. Nothing in their way. It wasn't a great romance, but it's still fascinating to see how living in that environment would affect your love-life.

It's been mentioned that Kirito was overpowered. That didn't bother me that much actually. The reason? Because this isn't so much about beating bosses as it is about exploring the gameworld, the situations that arise, the interactions between people, and more. My favourite aspect touched on several times is the implications of living in the game for so long. Although it's obvious to the audience if they take a moment to think about it, it's truly a chilling revelation when Kirito and Asuna realize that their bodies are on life support in the real world. The fact that not everyone stays an adventurer is fascinating. Lisbeth and Tiffany, (the big black guy), are a blacksmith and merchant, respectively, first and foremost rather than fighters. It's bizarre, and yet it makes so much sense! It's because the whole game is about living a different life, that life of course being up to you to live however you choose. Another bit is how people get used to living in the game. After being in there for so long, they just consider it to be normal, just going along and living for living's own sake, which seems like a terrible thing to do considering it's not real, and truly, it is, but it leads to an interesting quandary of whether the interactions people have with each other and the experiences and emotions they have are all fake just because it all takes place in a "fake" world. It's the Matrix all over again in a new and inventive way. All that and of course just seeing how core game mechanics are used is an ENDLESS source of interest, keeping you glued to your seat and just itching to get on to the next episode. So that's why it doesn't matter that Kirito is overpowered. It's not about the battles, even if they are in there. It's about how people deal with being stuck in a video game.

Now, on about boss battles and just clearing the game and how that's just glossed over mostly. This does disappoint me greatly. There should have been more boss battles and how Kirito copes with being a solo player loosely tied to the Assault Team, all the players who are working to beat the game and save the lives of everyone stuck in SAO. The battles aren't quite as important as how Kirito deals with them. Of course he's incredibly high level, but he's also on his own, outcast and mistrusted because he's a beater. On the subject of being a beater, it seems he realizes he's too powerful to be around other people without being viewed with suspicion and hostility, so he accepts his role as an outcast (a beater), but this never really comes up again as he frequently interacts with others and he even seems to help and care about other them, which is completely contrary to what a beater is, so that's confusing and should have been fixed. That should have been one of, I figure, 3 focuses of the show (Kirito gaining the respect he deserves, especially through Asuna, Kirito learning to be a truly caring person through his interactions with Asuna and all the other characters he meets, not least of which is Cline, and finally Cline and his exploits, possibly being more about caring for your fellow player and uplifting their spirits and leading a small group despite the overwhelming power of their enemies, having a larger focus on the battles than Kirito's sections of the story). He tries to be a dark and moody protagonist and sort of fails at that because he gets along with everyone mostly. He shouldn't have been so well liked by everyone else. It's specifically mentioned that he's a well known figure, talked of in tense whispers and hushed tones. This is because he's a beater. he is to be avoided like the plague because he will use you for his own ends then throw you away. But he never does this and as a result the concept of being a beater is brought up and never touched again when it should have been a primary conflict in the story. In other words, the bosses and the monsters wouldn't be the driving conflict for Kirito so much as being a beater would be and how he would overcome using other people and learn to care for others and ultimately become on of their champions, leading up to him and his friends beating the game. What I especially liked about the first few episodes is how he learns a lesson from someone every time. The first lesson he learns is from Cline, (another paragraph devoted entirely to him eventually), about looking out for your friends and staying together, basically we all win or we all lose. Then with Diego, (Diabo? Whatever, I'm calling him Diego...) after he fights and loses against Illfang, who impresses upon Kirito the duty of stronger players to protect those who are weaker than them. Then with the Midnight Black Cats, or whatever their name is. This one even FURTHER drives into Kirito the idea of community; the idea that everyone in Eingrad, (it's obviously a European name so I'm going to spell it with European spelling, so suck it weeaboos), is stuck, not just individuals, but everyone, and thus, everyone must be considered. As Red Green always said, "We're all in this together. Keep your stick on the ice." I liked that format, learning lessons every so often. In my perfect world, despite these lessons, Kirito would still be treated with hostility from all because he's solo and a beater. That level of rejection from society and his attempts to reconnect to society through Asuna would have been a better way to go about things, keeping the fun little oneshots too, for flavour.

Cline, (another goddamn spelling I'd like to correct because it's fucking ridiculous as it is) is a bloody hero. He's a true HERO. He takes care of his party, he's virtuous to the end, is a constantly active member of the Assault Team on the Front Lines, and it's clear, through the all too few times we see him that he's a complex, compassionate person. The way he refuses to abandon his team in the opening episode, even if it means not gaining power and access to all the goodies being a beater entails, is just a hint of what could have been revealed about him later. It's a shame he never became a more prominent character. Why does Cline not get enough love? Seriously, I don't know. He's so badass. And what makes him even more badass? He's average. He's just a normal guy thrust into an extraordinary circumstance. He's actually more relatable to the audience than Kirito is because most of us watching would be him in an RPG. Not a pro, not a n00b, just an average player with a fairly solid strategy at going about battles and always progressing at a slow, but inevitable pace. I'm not saying that means he should be the protagonist though. As I already said, the business with Kirito dealing with the world around him and the people that inhabit it, along with Asuna being able to coax him out of his shell and get him the respect he deserves as the high level, superior player he is, should have been the primary focus because it is cliché enough to keep the audience clear on what's going on with Kirito and Asuna and others while larger concepts are thrown [the audience's] way, such as those parts I already mentioned about interacting with the world and the question of whether those interactions can be counted as real experiences. There could have been a secondary storyline with Cline showing off his valour and his altruism as he looks after his friends and struggles against bosses, with Kirito being in some of those boss battles as well, if not all of them, showing how their paths cross as they work towards the same goal. Of course they'd also have a friendship, unlike what we got, which was the beginning of a friendship that went nowhere and ultimately ended as a really awkward acquaintanceship. Not awkward for the viewers, mind you, but awkward for the characters themselves! Wow, that's unpleasant. Oh right, but anyways, why is Cline so amazing? He's a normal guy who steps up against insurmountable odds because he has to, for his own survival, and for the survival of all the others trapped in the game. Isn't that kind of like Batman? Or my all-time favourite label for that sort of behaviour in a character and which I use to stamp out dissent? Ollanius Pius. Cline is Ollanius Pius. Look that shit up!

Now note, I am only speaking on behalf of the SWORD ART ONLINE section of Sword Art Online. I was instantly put off upon seeing Kirito kill Heathcliffe somehow and then he, who had died, Asuna, whose brain had been literally turned into mush after she was killed in-game, and Kayaba all still alive at the top of the world for some reason. The ending though, was really good. Him just waking up and just walking away was awesome. After fighting so hard for so long, that's a logical reaction, to just get up and go, rather than waiting in his bed, all weak and shit. Seriously though, if it had been me, I wouldn't even respond to my real name anymore. I would demand people call me Kirito from then on. This is because Sword Art Online had shaped Kirito's personality. His former identity as Kazuto, or whatever it was, was lost to him over those years of being in the game, and he'd fully embraced the identity of Kirito, becoming a totally different person from who he was pre-SAO such that even his family would have no understanding of who he was by that point. Basically, Kazuto died in Sword Art Online. In his place, Kirito was born. Kind of like how Thomas Anderson relinquished that identity to fully become Neo. He really should have demanded to be called by his new name, his new identity. Again, this brings up the idea of the game being real, in a sense, as it had real effects on people. Kayaba's goals were numerous and evil, but brilliantly so. Kind of like the Joker in the Dark Knight by Chris Nolan. In the end, Kayaba won. By forcing people to play his game, he made several statements about the nature of human interaction, the power of the internet to create connections, and just... GOD, it's devilishly ingenious! You know, this also reminds me of SAW, the torture, horror movies, in that by forcing those 10000 people into a life or death situation and forcing them to live in that fake world, those that came out of it alive came out totally different people, totally changed, either for the better, or for the worse, stronger of will, or stricken with post-traumatic stress up the wazoo, or even both. I'm humbled by the awe-inspiring audacity of Kayaba, the mastermind behind everything, the Joker who won in the end.

I think I got distracted in that last paragraph. I wanted to go on to say, before my sidetracking began, that Asuna was DEAD. She was OUT for several seconds if not a minute or more before Kirito somehow survived his own death and beat Heathcliffe. It was established that you had to use the Crystal of Nicholas the Renegade within 10 seconds to revive a dead character. The reason is easy to discern. It presumably takes 10 seconds to fully delete the character upon their death, at which point their brain is then microwaved like last night's leftovers. Like I said, Asuna was dead for a pretty long time. Easily longer than 10 seconds. That means she died. Fully. If this was explained afterwards in Gayass Twatty Fairyland Online, which I will henceforth refer to as GTFO, then GET THE FUCK OUT. No level of quibbling and spouting of excuses will appease me. She fucking died. Then Kirito died. Maybe, just maybe, I'll accept that by attacking Heathcliffe right as he was dying, he was able to get around his guard and kill him, thus preventing his own death by beating the game before officially being deleted. I'll even accept that Kayaba survived because he's an evil motherfucker who would never allow himself to actually lose. In fact, I bet he planned on being defeated, though he would escape true death like the mastermind he is. But whatever. I'm going to make things simple: there are 3 problems that completely wreck everything for me at the end and that I feel cannot be handwaved or explained away, no matter what comes up in GTFO. These problems are:

1. Asuna somehow didn't die when she died.
2. Assuming premise 1. is true, somehow Asuna stayed in the coma instead of waking up after the game was beaten.
3. Assuming both premise 1. and premise 2. to be true, somehow Asuna becomes the princess to be rescued in GTFO, which is a completely different game that's either still in the works or has just been released.

I don't care what excuses are given, those 3 premises make no sense to me and I will never accept them as a valid reason for extending the story. The whole thing could have stayed in SAO with the extra bossfights and level grinding and intricacies of dealing with people hating you for being a beater and a deeper look at the other characters, most importantly Cline, along with a final climactic boss fight on the hundredth floor with the only people still willing to fight by that point being Kirito, Asuna, Cline, Tiffany, and maybe someone else if they just introduced more characters who were combat experts rather than just oneshot characters or weaklings who could have become part of the main cast despite their weakness (I'm looking at you, Silica and Lisbeth), filling up several episodes and making up for the episodes taking place in GTFO. Also, the new villain is a scary Ghirahim clone. Yes, you shouldn't like a villain, but he's... just so... icky. You shouldn't attempt to marry and then rape a comatose underage girl. Seriously... That's just... Jeezus...

And now you know what I think about Sword Art Online up to and including episode 15 and how it could have been improved. Congratulations.

And now I have finished the show. While there was incredible potential, it was all wasted, even before it got worse. In short, this anime was shit.

Kamina died. That's complete bullshit. While watching for the first time, it seemed okay after Kamina's death. Looking back on it though, nothing is as good as when Kamina was around. Nothing. He shouldn't have died. If he'd survived, eventually Simon would grow up more after meeting Nia, which would have happened regardless of whether or not Kamina lived because it's the will of the Spiral or some shit like that, and Kamina woud have taken a backseat to Simon and the audience wouldn't be completely furious. Then, during the Anti-Spiral shit, Kamina would have held the people together while Simon was imprisoned and nobody would have to die in the final battle. Does that make things less dramatic? Maybe. But, just, fuck it, logic is all well and good, but I shouldn't have to use it, I should just be able to say "Kamina shouldn't have died because that's stupid. Everything would have turned out fine if Kamina had lived," and everyone should just be able to agree because it's so FUCKING OBVIOUS. Also, a lot of things didn't make sense or were done solely to piss the viewers off. Nia shouldn't have had anything to do with the Anti-Spirals. It doesn't make sense. The opening scene, although badass, is completely out of place and gets people confused because it doesn't even happen despite being portrayed as a preview of the final few episodes. Just... Fucking fuck.

It has oft been asked why Kamina is so incredibly manly when all along he was a scaredy-cat putting on the best show of fearlessness one could ever imagine. I shall tell you the correct answer to this. Ollanius Pius. Look it up. That is all.

The Big O

One minute into the first episode I declared loudly "10 OUT OF 10!" This is anime noir!? With Steve Blum!? Holy crap, Roger Smith is BRUCE WAYNE!? DID YOU HEAR THAT OST!? 10 OUT OF 10!

I'm done with the show. My thoughts? 10 OUT OF 10!

Guess what otakus, I figured it out. The Mystery of Big O, wondered and pondered over for more than 15 years has been solved. I know what it meant. I KNOW how the pieces fit together!!! People have been guessing and failing since Big O's inception, but I have figured it out in only 1 viewing of the show as a whole and 2 viewings of the ending. I. Am a FUCKING GENIUS. "The Big O," Paradigm City, even Roger Smith and Dorothy are merely characters in a television series. Is my conclusion a bit underwhelming? WELL. Let me finish, Shit-Britches! "The Big O" isn't just a tv show to us, the real world audience, it is a tv show for an audience in our version of The Big O. Confused? Let me rephrase it. We are watching the events of a show within a show. It's like us in the real world watching Itchy and Scratchy from The Simpsons. Angel Rosewater used the Paradigm Engine to create a virtual world, a simulation of reality, with representations of herself and some friends, Roger and Dorothy, as characters in it. She films the events that take place in this simulation then edits it and sells it as a show called "The Big O." I'm so fucking smart. FUCK.

Tokyo Ghoul

Slow clap, everybody! Slow clap. Take a decent idea, a likeable protagonist then SHIT ALL OVER EVERYTHING. There you go. The protagonist doesn't do anything. NOBODY DOES ANYTHING! That Amdo or whatever his name is could've been the other side of the puzzle, the regular human who has empathy. But no. He's a shitlord. EVERYONE'S a SHITLORD.

I don't even know what to say about this because it sucks so horribly. Lemme just say this though. Rize should've gone away after the first episode. Just... GOD, GO AWAY!

And another thing! I write stories. I write GORY stories. Thing is, there's a point to the gore and I never go overboard for ITS OWN SAKE. The torture of the protagonist (yep, within writing this I've already forgotten his name and I LITERALLY just MARATHONED THE SHOW a couple minutes ago) was gory and excessive for no reason. It was there for NO REASON. UNACCEPTABLE! And another thing, they take the Neon Genesis approach to the final episode. No kidding. I skipped through the last episode to check if anything happened and I was sorely disappointed. Fuck that shit.

Guns don't work on ghouls. Fuck you in your fucking asshole you fucking moron who takes away a ghoul's invincibility when it suits you. You writers should be ashamed of yourselves.

People are stupid in this show. They are dumb and they do dumb things. I'm adding Kenshiro to my list of ULTIMATELY hated anime characters. He's on Shiro Emiya level retardedness. That's a feat. I'm surprised he can tie his own shoes in the morning without accidentally setting himself on fire. Not only that, he's also simultaneously as pathetic as Shinji Ikari. SHINJI. MOTHERFUCKING. IKARI. Let that sink in. This guy is the most pathetic piece of shit I've ever seen. Some people say that becoming a ghoul is a major thing and it's hard to adjust. I disagree. In storytelling you can't prolong things like that. He was doing fine until the start of episode 3 I think it was. By the start of episode 3 he should have been fully adapted and over it. THERE WERE MAJOR FUCKING TIMESKIPS TOO, SO THERE'S NO EXCUSE. He is stagnant as a character. Worthless. I can't... I can't even...

Who the FUCK is the Professor Franken Stein wannabe? FUCK THAT KID.

And fuck you too while you're at it.

Every episode stuns you. Without fail. No matter how embarrassingly fail Tomoko is, it only ever gets worse. Always. The best way to describe this show is that every episode depicts a different trainwreck. You just... can't... look... away.

Seriously though, it's amazing when you consider that the entire series is carried by the near constant inner monologues of a single character. It's incredible because it must be hard to write that effectively. Furthermore, props to the voice actress. She had to make some very bizarre sounds to keep our ears busy. I don't think we ever went a single 10 second period without her making at least a grunt or a whimper. Wow.

This is pretty awesome, but I have MAJOR issues with it. The decisions... The writing decisions were just shit. Leo is more likeable than Luna. Luna is completely worthless, which would make for an interesting situation with a Signer who's not super heroic, but she's just shit all the time and doesn't even really play children's card games, instead spending most her time in a fantasy world talking to ghosts of ancient dragons and fluffly bunnies, which isn't very interesting, mostly because it's not card games on motorcycles. Also, Leo should have been the Signer between them or they should have shared a single mark because they're Gemini. Instead Leo sucks and loses and it's retarded and then out of nowhere they just add a 6th Mark out of nowhere. That's dumb. That's very dumb. Not only that, when they start Synchroing out, what was it, Accel Synchros they literally use magic to create a card that doesn't exist. In other words they can choose to make the card do whatever they want in order to win as easy as they please. Fuck that. Part of what was SUPPOSED to make this third Yugioh awesome was how brutally realistic and adult it was. Like Rocky. The card games are merely the machinery by which characters overcome obstacles, not the obstacles themselves. But then... It's bullshit. There's a lot of bullshit in there. It's bullshit. It's just bullshit. Fuckin' bullshit.

Akame ga Kill!
...

What can I say about this? There are so many missed opportunities and so many good things scattered all over the place. It's actually really hard to talk about. I'm of the opinion this is the sort of anime that isn't bad at the fundamental level, but it simply a shitshow when put into action. It's the opposite of Naruto, which is completely broken at the most basic level and no amount of good things, of which there are many, can fix it. This is just Code Geass told in a different time and a different world and is not nearly as complex and unique, and it doesn't need to be. What could have worked about this show is how the building blocks of the story are simple, which allow us to delve deeper into characters and situations since we don't have to waste time establishing what's going on. In other words, it's good, and full of good things, but the director botched everything, especially the tone, the dialogue is garbage, and the overall writing is appallingly bad. This may sound like a pretty major grievance, but really it could have worked better. I think the real problem with this is that the writing is just schizophrenic. It can't decide what the story is supposed to be. If the writer had decided on that and just stuck to it, giving it a coherent feeling, everything would have been better. It's really hard to explain, and I mean really hard, because I see potential in this story and the characters where I don't think anyone else does, in ways nobody else does. There were so many missed opportunities. Like, for instance, Tatsumi, the protagonist, is bland. He's as bland as they come. He's a generic shonen hero. BUT! That's what could set him apart! He knows how insignificant he is, and he admits he's a nobody! In other words, he's the ULTIMATE Everyman character! This is why he's brilliant! I should be a scriptreader. I would shit all over what they do and fix it. I wouldn't even alter things too much! I'd just give a nudge here and there, in addition to wiping huge sections of dialogue that are simply insulting to the intelligence of the audience. I'd replace all of that crap with quiet moments of introspection or something in order to convey the feelings or thoughts of the characters, and the mechanics of their powers or whatever through just images. It's something amazing you may have heard of. It's called subtlety. And you know what? They did that! I was absolutely floored at two particular parts. When Akame gets upset about Sheele dying, revealing that she's not a braindead cloudcoocoolander, but a real person that's completely normal but has so many issues because of the shit she's been through that she can't cope in daily life and acts strangely. Like an autist. Who has PTSD. The real PTSD too, as in the shell-shock variety, where the things you've seen and done and heard and felt make your eyes to sink permanently into your skull and give you the hundred-yard vacant stare - the look of someone who is truly dead inside. They express all this in one moment! It's the best character development moment in the show, by far. And on the other end of the spectrum is the first introduction of Lubbock. This is the worst, and I mean THE worst introduction to any character ever in any type of story in the history of ever. There has never been, and never will be, such a goddamn clusterfuck of wrong produced before or ever again. With the introduction of Lubbock we learn less than nothing about him. We actually have the character DE-DEVELOPED! It's mind-baffling! I have never seen such a terrible, revolting, absolutely perversely FUBAR introduction in my life. We see him and he's talking to himself in a manner that is completely unnatural about how he wants to see Leone naked in the most cliché way. Then Leone breaks his fingers or something and says one sentence. ONE sentence to describe he. "He's an idiot." Slow clap, show. Slow clap. We are all dumber for witnessing that scene. I can feel my brain cells shriveling in pure cringe at the utter abortion that was that introduction to, actually, one of the coolest characters right next to Susano. And you know, one of the major problems is the clichés. There're too many. Entire characters are devoured by their only defining personality trait. This was the doom of Esdeath. She was made to be a villain. But she was too much of a villain. Her entire personality is based around how evil she is. So when there's signs that she isn't completely evil it's just confusing. We're getting mixed signals. And all the time they put into making us like her and show that she might be able to turn herself around if she's just thrust into the right situation is wasted in episode 14 when Tatsumi outright says there's no way to fix her. Unless we're talking about the fucking cunt from Sword Art Online who was all rapey, then the antagonist better be fucking relatable and likeable in their own way. Even if there's no way for them to be redeemed, like Eliphas the Inheritor, they better still be a presence to behold on the screen. In the case of Esdeath, the show is giving us signals that she can be redeemed, but then shits itself and just makes her a default villain. But we take no pleasure in her defeat unlike other antagonists because there were those moments when we saw there were specks of goodness in her, and she's smoking hot, and it's just confusing. Like I said, mixed signals and I just come out of it confused and flustered. The other moment of subtlety actually involved Esdeath. She was in the shower with her arms held close together, defensively, and she was looking up almost in fear. In that single moment we knew exactly what she was thinking without the need for words. She was thinking "Oh my god, I'm going to have sex. Oh my god. What do I do? I'm so nervous..." and so on. She was uncertain, and it went a long way toward endearing us to her. But then she turns around and starts saying how she loves this certain flower because it causes excruciating pain when you rub in in a wound and she uses it often when she tortures people for fun. WHAT THE FUCK. JUST WHYT!? As a writer you can't do that! You can't have it both ways! She can't be cute and kind-hearted underneath the layers of horrible shit she's lived through that have caused her perception of things to be skewed, while also making her, legitimately, the most Chaotic Evil character you possibly can. It just doesn't...! M@Oh poeighp! YOu can't do that! It doesn't mesh! WHAT WERE YOU THINKIGN!? Oh, that's right, I know: YOU WEREN"T THINKING! YOU FUCK!

No. I refuse. I'm not watching a recap. And furthermore, I'm not watching Berserk anymore, nor am I ever going to read the manga. I don't like manga, firstly, and secondly I'm fucking done with this bullshit. I absolutely hate these bad ends and I hate when characters die. And this is just shit. And the manga's still going? Fuck that. Just fuck that. Unless you can RahXephon the ending, then all those deaths and horrible things that happened will amount to nothing. Fuck that, fuck you, and fuck all you bitches. Fuck Berserk.

Spy x Family
I don't think I've ever seen a show start wearing the clown makeup. Usually it lures you in with a good opening episode, and only after you're hooked does it reveal how empty it really is. I don't want to give any more of my limited time on this earth to this show, so I'll briefly list a few problems from just the first episode. This is actually fair because it's just copy and paste for the next two episodes, and I can't imagine the writing improves at all after that:

The super-spy is deadpan, lifeless, robotic, and lacks all common sense and relatability. He's one of those horrible cliches where they are exceptional at one particular skill, in this case being a spy, and are completely dysfunctional otherwise. It's tiresome.

We see very clearly that Anya is psychic - which I find to be contrived, but whatever. There is no room to misunderstand that she can read minds. There's an audio cue, there's context clues, her immediate reactions to whatever Loid is thinking, the works. And then we are blatantly TOLD that she is psychic by a narrator. Was this show made for children!? How stupid do they think we are!? It did a really good job SHOWING us, but the writers just had to hammer it in! They couldn't trust us to get it! You don't always have to show instead of tell, and sometimes you can show and tell if you're careful about it, but the way it was handled was downright insulting.

This may just be an anime thing or something, but ANY attempt to discuss 'World Peace' is so clunky and hamfisted and unnatural my eyes roll in my skull and come back around for another pass. And it's not just that. It's everything. Everything is clunky. It could just be a Japanese thing. But I've seen old Japanese movies and they're never so on the nose about things! AH!

No. Just walk away. Why can't shows just let the heroes kill bad people? This show in particular went out of its way to make us, the audience, so incredibly furious that only the blood of the antagonists would satisfy us.

All I could think of for most this show was Rorschach from Watchmen saying no to saving bad people. You don't even need to kill them yourself. Just walk away and let them die.

He didn't kill the bad nobleman and he didn't let the villains from the first episode die. I see where this show is going. The writer doesn't have the balls to show ultimate consequences. That means the entire show is forfeit. If you, as a writer, can't deliver consequences for actions, then there is no point to anything in your writing. Unacceptable.

Nope.

Am I supposed to think the extremist ghouls who go around killing the obvious bad guys are bad? Uh... I don't. I was so incredibly satisfied when they stormed into an enemy HQ in broad daylight and butchered everyone there. Also, why isn't Toka on their side? She was suggesting they kill the bad guys just a couple episodes ago, so why is she now acting like they're bad for doing it? Also, why is Ayato a dick? There's no real sensible reason why he's a dick. He just is. He's fighting the good fight for the wrong reasons but also is a complete asshole on top of that for no reason. Jeezus. This is complete shit. Just... Fuck.

This show is pretty infamous, and I had the pleasure of binge-watching it. Until of course the end of episode 5. NOOOOOOO! The main character is really a creep, but we tend to like him, especially because once he starts getting the full affection of the nurses there's real potential that he'll change his ways, especially after escaping death by Narumi. That moment when he realized he'd been betrayed by the girl he liked only to be saved by the goodness of the girls he brutally molested could have been that turning point that led him to being a better person. I wanted him to succeed and I wanted him to live happily ever after with his harem, continuing to be a doctor and improving his life. But NO! They just wouldn't let me have that. C'MON! I can't watch any more! NO MORE! I can't watch 5 episodes of flashbacks, and I can't endure the PROTAGONIST being dead. I hate that shit. I hear Kranke, or whatever has a happier ending. I'll have to check that out to bleach my mind of this bullshit ending, not counting the 5 episodes of flashbacks that only serve to remind me that the guy isn't going to complete his arc because the writers decided to end him. And Kranke has him stick with Rem, right? Why not all of them? Make it a harem! I wouldn't be able to choose and would probably dump all of them because I couldn't handle letting down 4/5 or something of them. He shouldn't have to choose. Let him have a happy ending! C'MON!
