Yet another expansion of the Marine Boy series. This time 65 episodes were added to the 1966 series and all 78 episodes were sold to the US. The broadcast history of the show in Japan was slightly more complicated, with only the first 36 episodes of the 78 shown at first but later on all 78 were shown, out of which 65 are contained in this entry and 13 in the Ganbare! Marine Kid series.

You didn't have to live in the 60's to enjoy Marine Boy. I'm 27 years old as I write this and discovered this anime several years ago while browsing the internet. The funny thing is I must have seen an episode when I was very young because it seemed familiar to me so I started watching it.

Considering the anime is old it still holds up pretty well for its age. Check out the trailer by Warner Archive, who have recently released the first season on DVD, to see how good it looks.

Marine Boy is a charming, undersea adventure filled with action, excitement and some memorable read more

Wow! I am utterly surprised to find this title on here. Kaitei Shounen Marine or Marine Boy as was titled when the reruns ran on tv when I was little, is partly responsible for my love of animation (all kinds) today. When compared to animations of the time, Marine Boy stood out. It created a fantasy world where normal people (not just mer-people) could live underwater and swim all kinds of creatures/beings including mer-people. One piece of asper gum is all that was needed. The colors were bright and inviting. The situations were just tense and exciting enough for the read more
