Kaichou wa Maid-sama!

I really enjoyed this anime because of how carefree it is. Having gone from binge watching Naruto and Naruto Shippuden to watching Maid-sama! was quite a change but it was a great one nonetheless. This anime is very funny and interesting to watch. The characters are very relate-able and the overall story and adventure is cute.
This anime does a good job in keeping away from the whole overused "lonely girl falls in love with popular guy and lives happily ever after" and instead focuses on an already strong girl, Misaki, and a (yes popular BUT lonely) boy Usui.
He does not HAVE to come to her ... rescue all the time because she is already such a strong person. Definitely not a cliche anime, watch it if you have the time and don't want to stress over anything major. :)

This anime is your stereotypical popular-boy-falls-for-tsundere-girl story. I started watching the show scared that I was going to be bored out of my mind. 

I went into the show hoping for a cute romance story, however there was hardly any romance at all except in the last couple moments of the show. Instead of romance, there was comedy. The creators did a pretty good job with comedy. I always found myself laughing while watching this show, so that's why I gave the show the rating I did. 

As for character development, well there really wasn't any. If there was any slight advance in Misaki and Usui's relationship ... in one episode, it'd be completely forgotten by the next and everything would go back to the way it was before. That went on until the very end of the last episode and it really made me a little angry because I really wanted to see how Misaki and Usui would act after they started dating. 

If you're looking for a show with lots of romance, you'd better go look somewhere else because you will not be satisfied, but if you're looking for a romantic comedy, then this is the show for you! The comedy does not disappoint! 

Ok i just got to say... this is one of my favorite anime that I've seen i watched it a long time ago for the first time and i watched it a lot lately. I would try watching this if you haven't the characters are great and funny Usui is one of my favorite character because hes different then everyone else. I wish they could of kept going with this anime because i could watch it all the time. I hope some of you like it as well. I watch it in Japanese because it sounds better then the English version. The more you watch ... it the better it will get. I've seen it so much and i still laugh at the funny moments i will let you decide. I hoped i helped a little so thanks for listening.

'The Class Prez is a Maid!' is a super simple feel-good romance with little to no conflict. Despite its simplicity, 'Maid-Sama' is really enjoyable, perhaps because it's self-aware and isn't trying to be a deep meaningful romance, it's just fun. You find yourself attached to the characters, rooting for them to realize their feelings for one another; which is honestly more than what most vanilla romances are able to accomplish in terms of connecting with their audience.

What's more, the way 'Maid-Sama' manages to be so satisfying without having to create melodrama speaks to the quality of the storytelling. Even with a large comedy element, there's ... still some very real emotional development going on between the two main characters... and you feel like it's slowly building towards a climax and not just being dangled in front of you.

In the end, 'Maid-Sama' wraps everything up so neatly; it's super cute, and brings a lot of closure.. without which, would make the series a lot less memorable. I'm really glad it was executed the way it was.

If you're looking for an episodic rom/com with happy feels all around, 'Maid-Sama' is definitely not a bad choice.

It may not be the most original or innovative anime i've seen, but it has become one of my favorites. After a few episodes, i couldn't wait to see how the main characters would get together. It also continued to make me laugh from the first episode to the last, which many anime struggle to do. By the end of this anime i had a smile on my face that didn't leave the whole day, something that has only been done by two of the 50 odd anime i have seen. I would highly recommend this anime to anyone who is remotely interested in watching ... it

I'm just gonna pump this out without the dressing. Kaichou wa Maid-sama. An episodic rom-com that looks older than it actually is. Normally I would say a Shoujo romance show doesn't fit into my tastes (see Ouran Host Club), but this show manages just fine. I think that the themes of a successful and driven woman struggling with her sexuality grow increasingly more common as time moves on, and as I've aged to an old geezer (pushing 25 over here) I come to understand it better. So no problems there. I have no problem with the art of the sound either. There's a ton of ... energy in the presentation. I don't even have an issue with the writing of each episode. Kaichou wa Maid-sama's big issue is that, in the big picture, there's just nothing happening.

There is never anything to look forward to, never any real change in the relationship of Misa and Usui. I can't even say that this makes the show bad, more than that it just turns the show in a pretty everyday comedy with not much special going for it. But despite this, the series succeeds.

Pros & Cons
[++] The score, while limited, is quite nice. The OP and EDs, the triumphant music, the dangerous music, even the standard music.
[+] The art definitely looks aged, but it brings a lot to the table. Tons of personality and solid animation/direction.
[+] The comedic timing is solid. Though the jokes are pretty basic and often predictable.
[+] The characters have nice archetypes. A boss woman who has to contend with her natural womanly desires is a character I like seeing done well. And honestly Usui has stirred around my impression of what a man should be, as he manages to solve problems of his woman reliably without question, even if he has to take sacrifices, and doesn't let it phase him.
[-] The characters don't make any meaningful strides in growth. It's in fact intentional that Usui's backstory is completely underdeveloped besides the fucking ED (??? whats up with that ???). Misa slowly comes to reach her feelings about Usui, and slow is fine, but her way of getting to this point is very predictable. He does something heroic, he does something sexy, and she has to ask herself why she feels the way she feels.
[--] Yikes the MACRO pacing of this show is all off.

There is no thread to trace. It took my THREE MONTHS to finish this show, and not because I didn't like it. Just because I would watch one episode, and feel totally uncompelled to see what would happen in the next. Even when the show TRIES to do this, it totally fails. Look at the Hinata arc. As soon as he arrives, it is a completely forgone conclusion that he will not be romantically involved with Misa. Yet they devote many of the end chapters to him. Hell, you sort of expect the something more dramatic at the end, and while I think Usui and Misa's moment at the end was handled nicely, there's just something missing. You can call it subversive in some ways, but its just not good television.

I thought of giving Kaichou wa Maid-sama a high score since I do tend to lean towards shoujo anime. However, I have to say that there isn't really anything particularly special about it. There's your tough main heroine who receives the affection of multiple guys and your popular, handsome love interest who's goofy yet sensitive and has got that that typical "dreamy main guy" charm. The story comes off as just the normal girl-is-dense-to-guy's-feelings plot line but there isn't really too much exceptional or bad about this anime.

I will however, have to say that I did enjoy watching it during most parts, just for the ... sheer fluff as a sort of "in between" anime where I was stuck as to thinking about what I wanted to watch next. If fluffy romance anime is your thing, I'd definitely say "go for it" because Kaichou wa Maid-sama definitely falls under that category.

Characters are bland, 1- dimensional, and does not evolve throughout the story.

Every instance of an interaction of the MC with another guy involves rape tendencies to which either the heroine defends herself or the 'stalker' rescues her.

The whole anime teases you of a relationship but nothing ever happens. oh btw the MC is a giant tsundere.

As a viewer, you are spoonfed the plot over and over again. When one character gives the viewer a plot dump, the story would happily dump that information all over again later when it's appropriate.

The plot is too fleshed out. We follow a female MC whose hard working but has ... a very embarrassing job which a couple of her classmates finds out. One in particular is very fond of her and tries to court he for the entirety of the anime. The male lead is quite 1- dimensional, and the girl clueless af. Because the anime follows the female MC and the male MC is emotionless the viewer doesn't need to infer any type of drama or deeper meaning between those 2. Everything is handed out without the need to think deeply.

It like listening to an audiobook while you sleep and getting the gist of it once you wake up. Zero brain power to watch = boring series.


Drop this sad excuse of a romcom and go watch Toradora! 10/10.

Kaichou wa maid sama...apparently a must when it comes to shoujo manga...well, I'm really far from agreeing with that, there are so many much more interesting shoujo manga than this one.

If the plot was quite promising, the evolvement of the characters and the story was disappointing. Talking about characters, about the main female lead dear...so cliche, the usual tsundere-ish type who doesn't love the male lead and pretend to not feel a thing through chapters and chapters...it's something that we've seen in so many other shoujo. Okay, the fact that she was focusing on earning money since her family is poor while being the ... student council president and secure her future that got me, I was attracted to that tough and determinate misaki, but the way she kept on showing weaknesses and being bashful in front of Usui while refusing to accept her feeling for a long time kind of annoyed me in the end, well, because I'm the feminist type and I hate to show my weak self to others especially guys. And Usui, well, if physically like-again- any male lead he was a godlike figure, I found him too...perfect. I mean let's be honest, a guy like that he's far from being real even in a manga, I found it hard to immersed myself into it since Usui was so flawless, weird but well it's a pure personal opinion.

What I thought was going to be a typical rom-com movie turned out to be a quite enjoyable watch after all... Yes at sometimes I felt like they could of done it differently and gone a whole completely other way with it, but i'd still watch it again.

Overall: I enjoyed the watch and would highly recommend for someone who's looking for a slow romantic yet funny paced series. The lead male is a perfect/popular guy who starts of like a cold hearted guy yet he begins to warm up to everyone as the story progresses. The story is at a good 60% typical rom com ... series and at some points I really do question why they went that way with it.. (maybe it's because I'm not used to these types of male characters and are used to the ones who get fluttered at the first sign of any skin) Like towards the end they add in a random guy out of no where and confess his love for his childhood friend, I thought it would have been 100% better if it was added towards the middle of the series but that's just my opinion.. I kind of get it made the male character come out a lot more and express his feelings better? Along with showing us a jealous side to Usui.

I think i'm starting to come to a hating of these over aggressive female characters.. I get it that woman are strong and feisty but when you see the female hit a guy because he's being somewhat cute or they get extremely aggressive when something happens it just turns my stomach a bit. The main female character is a strong independent woman who works at a Maid Cafe and this sets up the story for the entire series. Everything is based onto this one place. I think maybe going after the manga would of been better if I wanted a way to look further into it aswell would of been better.

I might not have said anything really good about this anime but I still really enjoyed it. The story was good, the characters made for a long paced series where it's hard for the female to express her feelings and made for the story to become interesting at some times.

I would 100% recommend this but if you're looking for a story line where they meet and fall instantly in love with each other, Don't get your hopes up.

If you are wondering whether to watch the show, give the first few episodes a try, because it's pretty much the same after that.

Kaichou wa maid sama, to me, is something that you either love or hate. It's not a revolutionary anime, but it does a lot of things differently while also still containing a lot of tropes.

Personally, it's one of my favorite anime ever. I love all of the characters and there's plenty of character development even though their personalities don't change much. There's no underlying plot or villain but I think the show does it right.

If you mildly enjoy the ... first few episodes, then you'll love the rest because it gets better, but if you find yourself bored or annoyed, you'll probably feel that way for the rest of the show.

If you read the bad reviews and think that it might not be worth it, you should still definitely give it a try!

Kaichou wa Maid-sama! is a peculiar anime that will always have a place in my heart, no matter how cheesy or possibly cliche that this show is.

I watched this around 5 years ago, so my memory of the show is getting a little bit rusty. I'll rewatch it at some point.

Onto the review.

I gave the story a 9, because although the plot is a variant of a very common idea for rom-com plots, it just works for this one. Well executed in the way it was arranged.

The art also gets a 9. I hate to say this, as it is due to when it was ... aired, but because I've watched many anime that came out much later than this (after 2010 is what I mean to say), I have been spoiled by clearer-drawn digital animation. That aside, I like how the characters were designed, and that also goes towards the rating for Characters, which will come after my sound rating.

Sound gets an 8, but only because of older recording tech. I won't go into detail here, as it isn't needed.

Character gets a 10. The characters were outstanding, and there were some funny moments between them.

I enjoyed this enough to give it a 10. 'nuff said.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama! is one that I think that anyone who likes rom-coms will likely enjoy.

This is in the Big 3 of shoujo anime (along with Ouran and Fruits Basket) so I have tried many times to get into it, but every time I end up dropping it. The best things about this anime are the opening song and some of the humor with the side characters. I like her sister and the other maids at the cafe. Some scenes made me laugh unexpectedly.

The reason I gave it a 5/10 (average) is because it literally is that. Average. It does a good job fulfilling its role as a fun romcom. It's not groundbreaking, but it's not bad. It's...fine. ... But given its immense popularity I do find Maid-sama EXTREMELY overrated compared to the likes of Ouran and Fruits Basket who have much deeper character development beyond their comedic surfaces. I have skimmed farther into the Maid-sama manga and characters remain static so I know it's not just the anime adaptation's fault.

My main gripe with this show is just how little I like the main leads and their dynamic. Misaki comes across as bitchy and unreasonable and doesn't improve enough as the story goes on. I guess I'm not a fan of the tsundere trope. She can be cool and hardworking at times, but she becomes a blushing mess around Usui. Misaki does not qualify as a strong female lead in my eyes because she has yet to develop her inner strength and confidence. It's unfortunate that she's only bearable when she's not around Usui.

Usui's writing is also laughably bad. I get it. We all have 2D anime crushes. No harm done. But I can just FEEL the author trying to sell him to the audience. He's perfect at literally everything, has absolutely no flaws/vulnerabilities, and get this, he ONLY loves Misaki (aka you, if you self-insert). This is where I physically cannot stop myself from rolling my eyes. Even as a teenage girl I could not understand the appeal of a cardboard cutout with no personality besides being a sexual harasser. Maybe it wouldn't be so annoying if the story was more self-aware of it like in One Punch Man or Sakamoto. Unfortunately, Usui's perfection is meant to tap into the female fantasy but it does so at the expense of actually good character writing.

Anyways, the show is average. Not bad, not amazing. Just average. People seem to love it though. Unfortunately I think it's popular for the same reason Twilight and 50 Shades of Grey are. Not really my cup of tea, but could be someone else's.

I started to watch this series and became so bored and annoyed that I ended up dropping it halfway thru.

Character-wise, there is no character development at all. Misaki doesn't learn anything or change one bit; and since Takumi is downright perfect (and by definition, perfection cannot be improved upon) he also doesn't get any development.

I should say that I hate Takumi Usui with the intensity of a thousand suns, and I'm annoyed beyond words by his existence, because he's so overpowered (by rom-com standards) that it's beyond ridiculous: he's the #1 best student in the whole school, admired and respected by all the male students, ... so handsome that any woman that lays eyes on him is instantly smitten; a master chef; a fighter so skilled, he has no problem beating 10:1 odds; thoroughly unbeatable at games (and by inference, possessor of genius-level intellect), since he hands Misaki her first-ever defeat at cards, and destroys the 4th-ranked chess player in the country at his own game, without even breaking a sweat. I bet the sonuvagun is also a self-made billionaire, because why the hell not?

Story-wise, there is no story. Every chapter follows this formula: there's a problem (doesn't matter what it is), Takumi is somehow already there (because he's a freaking stalker!) and fixes everything by doing something absolutely amazing completely effortlessly, while Misaki gets a little bit more in love with Takumi. Lather, rinse, repeat.

This is trash I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama is something I used to love. Revisiting it years later sure made my opinions different than before, but nevertheless I still sort of enjoyed it.

My criticisms lie on the questionable sexist attitude from Misaki, and from the other characters [with some creepy moments...I'll leave it as that because it's a minor scene.]. I also think that Usui, although this is his main appeal, is just too perfect. That's perfectly normal in shoujo mangas/animes, but because of that, I haven't really empathized or understood him. He's too cooped up with his love for Misaki, which sure, I get that it's the point, and ... how appealing it is at times that I swoon, but as a character, he's surface-leveled.

But as I went on, like an average shoujo manga, it did make me click on the next episode until I finished it instead of doing something productive. I was lost in its starry-eyed, flower-filled fantasy about a perfect man falling for a hardworking and strong-willed woman.

It's definitely a power-fantasy for young girls, and not much of an all-rounder romance. This anime is definitely stupid and vapid at times, but knowing that it's coming from a regular shoujo manga plot, you should know what will exactly come.

Kaichou wa Maid-sama is enjoyable, depending on what you're looking for, however, since it's a shoujo romance anime, if you're not really familiar with the genre, you might punch some holes in your walls instead. If this review isn't enough to dissuade you and have piqued your interest, then watch it. This anime definitely is a classic shoujo romance anime, and I hope by seeing this, you might even find other shoujo titles.

A great anime to start when you want to satiate your shoujo romance cravings.

I love the main characters. I like that Misa isn't like the usual girl protagonist, she is really strong and doesn't prioritize her love life over everything else. This anime is also really funny and silly. It has so many scenes where I literally got BUTTERFLIES bc it's so cute. It is definitely a comfort-romance anime, so don't expect something fast-paced and extremely serious. And the ending is SO WORTH IT!!!!

Usui is one of my favorite male leads because he is often used as comedic relief, but has depth as well. I get that Usui is a little controversial, but I think that Misa calling ... him perverted is more of a joke, and she obviously doesn't view him as a bad person otherwise she wouldn't depend on him so much.

Honestly, before I started watching this I expected it to be a clique shoujo anime with a sprinkle of sexualizing maids. However, it definetely was far rom that.

The main character, Misaki, apart from being waifu material, had an amazingly developed personality. The only thing I didn't like was how little about Usui we get to see. All we know is that he is a (very attractive) simp, who lives alone and is always there when Misaki is in danger. Somehow he always ppears out of nowhere to save her.
Overall, I can't say I didn't scream a couple of times. I was expecting ... to cry, but that didn't happen, not until the last episode. But that was only because I was too sad the show was ending.

The visuals are a 10/10. Animation was super impressive for a 2010 anime. Plus, the opening was bomb. Not only the song but also the video. Especially when misaki was spinning around in her maid costume, or when Usui was hotly blinking.

Alltogether, I experirnced a huge emotional rollercoaster and I would highly recommend this shoujo classic to anyone who likes romantic comedies.

I know it's not fair to leave a nasty review just because you don't like a shows characters, so I won't. However, I will complain about how bad these characters truly, are.

Story(7): Nothing special. It'snot fair to give this anything less than a 6 because of how successful the cliche, and the anime is. It's the typical opposites attract archetype. You'll probably find a better substitute for this show, but this show is fine.

Art(8): Very easy on the eyes, and pleasant to look at. You can tell that this is where the majority of the shows budget went.

Sound(6): Sound editing is quite good actually. ... However, the sound quality is nothing special, and the music is that classic Major 1, Major fourth, Major fifth, Minor 6th, that is ubiquitous in a lot of shoujo anime. Don't watch this show for the sound.

Character(1): I could talk about how cliche, tacky, and paper thin these characters are, but you can hear that from a lot of reviews. Instead I will talk about how terrible the characters actually are; Actually, I will talk about how terrible one character in particular is. Misaki is probably the worst person in terms of humanity, and writing in the whole show. She is an abusive, manipulative, sexist, and incorrigible person. But her worst trait is that she is hypocritical. There is literally a scene in the subbed anime where she says "No human is worthless", but if you rewind that VERY SAME EPISODE, you will hear her call multiple people worthless because they are running in the hallway.

Enjoyment(2): Almost every other episode of the anime I had to pause it because I couldn't bear Misaki's hypocrisy. However, you will probably enjoy this show a lot seeing as it is very popular so give it a try.

Overall(7): I've given shows that I enjoyed more worse scores, so believe me when I say this show deserves a seven.

What is so funny about this show is that it is sexist to every side, so it makes for some pretty hilarious moments. Anyway, I'll see you later

Watching this anime was the most enjoyable thing! When first starting off with anime I would defiantly suggest this in dub or sub both are just as enjoyable in my experience.

The animation was perfect and the character development was slow but it was exciting to see how well everyone developed from the beginning to the end of the anime, and if you're into shoujo animes this would be my top pick!

Overall this anime is a 10 if you haven't watched it you should watch it if you're into romance animes or just starting off then you should watch it.

Though it may be a tough bite to go through some scenes, the timing were all on point. Everything happens as predicted most of the time except some twists.

I love the characters, the music growing when something big is gonna happen, the childish and goofy art style doesn't make it serious enough to begin with. I myself laughed and smiling at times without my knowledge.

It's the feeling I loved.

I sense some kind of foreshadowing in the EDs. Would love to see a season 2 if that comes.

Gonna read the manga anyway.

PS. Watch it once at least, won't regret it.
