Akuyaku Reijou nanode Last Boss wo Kattemimashita

Aileen Lauren Dautriche's life changes forever on the day her engagement with the crown prince Cedric Jeanne Elmir is nullified so he can be together with Lilia Rainworth. The event triggers Aileen's memories from her past life—she has been reincarnated in an otome game as the villainess, who is destined to die in the final act. To prevent her predetermined demise, Aileen has only one option: to court the game's last boss, Claude Jeanne Elmir—the proclaimed "Demon King" and Cedric's half-brother—and marry him.

However, it is easier said than done, as Claude distrusts her intentions. Instead of giving up, Aileen adamantly tries to win his heart by helping Claude fulfill his wish: to build peace between humankind and demonic beasts. But time is running out, and it is up to Aileen to change the course of not only her tragic ending but Claude's as well.

I remembered reading the manga and enjoying it, even though I couldn't remember all the details. So when I saw the anime I decided to check it out.
The general premise is the popular trope--a modern person is reborn as the villaness in an otome. Aileen is an enjoyable main character to root for. She is tough, clever, good at socializing, and funny. Her love interest sometimes brings out her shy side, which is cute. The love interest is the demon lord, the half brother of her former fiance, who has abandoned her for the saint (the main character in the otome). He has cool magic ... powers and is very caring of his fellow demons. The other side characters are fun as well.

Other positives:
the music is pretty good
the art is not bad
the plot is fairly satisfying by the end

negatives:
some of the side characters, while likable, are fairly underdeveloped
the pacing is weird, several times it feels like the story is ending, but then a new arc starts

If you like isekai and don't mind some generic elements, I think you would like this anime. If pacing or character development is important to you, you may not enjoy this very much. That said, I love character development, and I was still able to enjoy this by not taking it too seriously.

Mixed Feelings

Honestly it disappointed me, you'd think taming the final boss would be the main storyline since it is the title, but no, we're done with it after 4 episodes to then develop two more, four-episode storylines, which causes the series to not have that much romance, the MC is just going around solving problems. There are a lot of characters introduced throughout the series but none of them have any depth to them. It would also be nice to get Aileens thoughts on living in this game but she only mentions it when talking about what's going to happen next in the plot.
Not bad, ... but also not what I expected.

Not Recommended

I'm not gonna get too into it, mostly because this show didn't earn the right for me to spend too long on a review for it, but I simply had to say it: this might be one of the worst paced shows I've ever seen. This show has a DIZZYING pace and there is just no time to get to like any of the characters or enjoy any of the story. Yes, it's tropey, but I genuinely enjoy these kinds of tropey shoujo, I was looking for simple good tropes. But for some reason this show tried to cram easily two seasons worth of story ... into one and by Episode 3 the "final boss" is already thoroughly tamed making the premise kind of stop involving him for the most part for the rest of the show.

Trust me, unless you need to consume mid, uninspired, way-too-frantic tropey shoujo to survive, don't watch this. It's too short and not horrible enough to be a straight out "avoid at all costs" show, but it really isn't worth anyone's time.
