Akuyaku Reijou nanode Last Boss wo Kattemimashita

Aileen Lauren Dautriche's life changes forever on the day her engagement with the crown prince Cedric Jeanne Elmir is nullified so he can be together with Lilia Rainworth. The event triggers Aileen's memories from her past life—she has been reincarnated in an otome game as the villainess, who is destined to die in the final act. To prevent her predetermined demise, Aileen has only one option: to court the game's last boss, Claude Jeanne Elmir—the proclaimed "Demon King" and Cedric's half-brother—and marry him.

However, it is easier said than done, as Claude distrusts her intentions. Instead of giving up, Aileen adamantly tries to win his heart by helping Claude fulfill his wish: to build peace between humankind and demonic beasts. But time is running out, and it is up to Aileen to change the course of not only her tragic ending but Claude's as well.

Akuyaku Reijou nanode Last Boss wo Kattemimashita, Another of those "Villainous" type isekai that have become quite popular recently. As with most of my reviews if you wanna skip reading it and want a general gist. This show is pretty good and will do a decent to good job of entertaining you, It's biggest strong points are It's comedy and wholesome romance. You'll most likely enjoy if you're a fan of those genres and don't mind a average plot or slightly cliche writing at times.

Now then it's on to reviewing time.


Starting with It's weakest points, the story, and later in the review, It's characters. ... This show's plot and story isn't bad, far from it, it manages something the "average isekai trash" that releases every season dreams of doing, but still fails to do. But the actual problem here is it feels rather rushed or stripped down perhaps. The core points are there and they're pretty good overall, but the story delivers a plot that just feels a bit hollow and makes you ask yourself "Did I miss something? or, That's it? or even, Why?" on occasion. This is especially true in one arc with half of the stuff seeming to happen because it might make the story more interesting. But due to a lack of depth, some of these things seem to just happen when they logically don't make sense, even when it absolutely could've had there been more of the plot fleshed out. Overall its not the worst thing but it causes there to be less depth to the story causing to feel a bit lacking in it's execution. It's a generally decent and passable story but certainly would've done better with a more fleshed out plot and characters.

The characters though? There's a couple characters that are rather fleshed out and good, Claude and Isaac being the main ones. But after the first arc it's partly the same as nearly every character in this show, which means it feels like they're just following the plot and story. Which to be fair isn't quite a bad thing, as the plot and story here is generally pretty decent and depending on how you understand the somewhat confusing aspect of the shows world it could even make sense actually. But it just leaves the characters doing these plot important tasks, and major things, and what does it result in? Well in most cases there really isn't much of a reason for why characters do what they do besides the plot going that direction. There's even a couple characters that for some reason just help, the main character, even though from their profession and position in the plot their decision makes no sense. Had their character been fleshed out a little to give them a bit of depth, reason and personality that can go against what their professions in the plot are it would make sense potentially. But even then there's other plot problems that can't be blamed on the characters. And despite this semi glaring flaw seen at times, the characters are overall very entertaining and while they aren't the most detailed or interesting characters, they fulfill their job in the plot well enough and provide more than enough entertaining comedy.

The strongest point here? Well the comedy of course, it can be simple and gag like on occasion but a majority of it, especially the romance based comedy is quite funny and on occasion even well prepared ahead of time to make you laugh at it later. Not much else to say here, the comedy is funny and does it's job pretty darn well.


Overall, this shows story and characters are still pretty decent despite their flaws, and it'll at least provide a good 12 episodes of nice entertainment even if the story doesn't keep you that invested. A 7/10 suits this quite well, as it could've had more things fleshed out and been a bit better as a result, but will still provide a good entertaining watch that's generally worth your time.

Mixed Feelings

Akuyaku Reijou was better than I anticipated, even though it wasn't all that good. The beginning is so cliche and boring it almost makes you regret starting it, but it surprises you with some good moments and ends up being a positive experience.

Most of what makes it good is the protagonist, Aileen: she's a natural born leader who is unafraid of doing what she needs to do to get what she wants. She doesn't fill the adorable & nice MC archetype that so many shoujo have, instead really acting like a villainess when she needs to do so. It's refreshing to see a character ... who does things out of her own volition and has a strong sense of justice. It's not about simply screaming to "stop" and acting cute so people get attached to her, but making plans so things will go the way you want and you'll be able to save the people you want to save.

Because of Aileen and some surprising/mildly dark moments, this could have been way better if not for some rushed parts (mostly the romance. Even though it was nice, it settled way too fast and whenever there was a problem between them those would also be resolved wayyy too quickly) and the overall cute-sy art. If some parts were taken in a more serious note, this could've been way better. The lighthearted moments are good and they make Akuyaku Reijou what it is, but some dark and scary moments would've been good too. All tense moments are so cute you can never get worried and so their potential and seriousness get destroyed. The ending song/visuals were great and kind of had the tone I wish the anime had.

The antagonist is interesting as well and we have some cool side characters that were sadly not developed enough... But as I said, it's an overall positive experience. Some arcs are better than the others (my favorite was the second one) but each of them has a nice moment or two that makes it worth watching.

An anime for those who like Isekai villainess who act more like villainess and for those who just want to watch more shoujo romance. A little more than an anime to pass the time, but not much. I don't regret watching it though.

It's my first time writing a review on MAL. The community average score doesn't really portray the actual quality of the anime.
Hence, I watched this with expectation it would be decent.
Whole storyline was so forceful, everything is rushed without proper build-up especially Aileen and Demon King's relationship.
FL just approached her fiancee's brother because she got dumped, and so ML and FL just happened to fall in love. It's not even predictable at this point, rather everything is so forcefully put together. I do hope the manga/LN is at least well-put together.

I got recommended from 7th Time Loop, compared to that, this is so ... far behind.
Truly not recommended.
