Storywise, it's a jumble of mess, but who really cares about that? You get your funny shorts, your favorite servants — and most importantly — you get a whole season's worth of memes to take out of context.

The art isn't ufotable, but it stylistically works with the content given.

SUPER AFFECTION WITH THE GRAND ORDER SEIYUUS, WHAT MORE CAN YOU ASK FOR????

The show doesn't need to give you character development. You've gotten that by playing FGO anyways.

I'm enjoying this OVA so far. I can definitely see there being more scenes that can be taken out of context for the general read more

I absolutely loved Carnival Phantasm, but its F/GO counterpart pales in comparison, and it's exactly just because of the material it's supposed to parody. As you probably know, Carnival Phantasm's cast was limited to Tsukihime and Stay Night, and thus had much more limited number of characters to feature. And as all of those characters were written by a single person, their chemistry with one another was just naturally easier to be written better.

F/GO, with each character designed and often written by a different writer, horribly fails at this premise and that's projected to Fate/Grand Carnival too.

We're only 1 episode into the series and it already proved itself to be a worthy successor of Carnival Phantasm.

As anyone who watched it knows, CP is a peak example of parody, taking the characters from series stories such as Fate/stay night and Tsukihime and pitting them into a world that runs on rule of funny and where being Lancer equals dying. Almost exactly the same can be said about Grand Carnival, with the difference being that there's already been FGO parodies before (Learning with Manga being the most notable), so this series had the adventage of knowing where to take these group of characters read more

If you enjoyed Carnival Phantasm and came here expecting a similar experience, Fate/Grand Carnival completely differs from its predecessor. This anime is a fan-service towards the audience that enjoys Fate/Grand Order.

To clarify what Grand Carnival differs from Carnival Phantasm is that you would not understand the context of various scenarios when gags or jokes are used, unless you've actually played the game and understand what the FGO community is like. There are of course, familiar characters but they follow the context of what commonly occurs in the game such as in-game events that people who have played the game are aware of.
