Horimiya

On the surface, the thought of Kyouko Hori and Izumi Miyamura getting along would be the last thing in people's minds. After all, Hori has a perfect combination of beauty and brains, while Miyamura appears meek and distant to his fellow classmates. However, a fateful meeting between the two lays both of their hidden selves bare. Even though she is popular at school, Hori has little time to socialize with her friends due to housework. On the other hand, Miyamura lives under the noses of his peers, his body bearing secret tattoos and piercings that make him look like a gentle delinquent.

Having opposite personalities yet sharing odd similarities, the two quickly become friends and often spend time together in Hori's home. As they both emerge from their shells, they share with each other a side of themselves concealed from the outside world.

I'm not a fan of romance, I'm really completely sure that I'm not at all the target audience for this anime... Still, I liked it. I really don't consider it to be a very impressive anime, nor do I think it has anything in particular to highlight. It was just okay. I'm also not sure if it's really a romantic comedy, it doesn't really have much comedy...

I recommend this anime if:

- You are a fan of calm romantic comedies.
- You want something light but romantic to watch.

I don't recommend this anime if:

- You have a strong desire to see a super intricate story, full of ... mystery and suspense, drama, or action.
- You come with some kind of expectation to fulfill.
- You think this anime is a romantic comedy. It's not. It's simply romantic.

No soy un fanático del romance, realmente estoy completamente seguro de que no soy para nada el objetivo de este anime... Aún así me gustó. Realmente no considero que sea un anime muy impresionante, tampoco considero que tenga nada, en particular que recalcar. Simplemente estuvo bien. Tampoco estoy seguro de que sea realmente una comedia romántica, mucha comedia no tiene realmente...

Recomiendo este anime, sí:
- Eres fanático de las comedias románticas tranquilas.
- Quieres algo ligero pero que sea de romance para poder ver.

No recomiendo este anime, sí:
- Tienes grandes deseos de ver una historia super intrincada, llena de misterio y suspenso, drama o acción.
- Llegas con algún tipo de expectativa que rellenar.
- Crees que este anime es una comedia romántica. No lo es. Es simplemente romántica.

Mixed Feelings

This is a review of seasons 1 and 2

First off, shout out to the dub's casting director Caitlin Glass for assembling a cast of entirely poc actors for this show simply because she thought it would be cool. Something you're often told when working in the acting industry is that not getting cast is almost NEVER your fault. To be blunt, there's a lot of discrimination in this field and these voice actors aren't often heard in a series like this. So for this show to go with an exclusively poc cast all for the sake of normalizing these actors being given more fair treatment ... and equal opportunity in future auditions is such a big deal. For that alone, I'm incredibly grateful for this show's existence. As for the show itself... I'll be honest, it's perfectly fine. It felt like I was watching the aftermath to a story I missed out on. The show alludes to the characters having gone through a lot of hardship in the past, but its always a personal moment with a single character reflecting on their life. Rather than an ongoing event that multiple characters can get involved in and help one another with. Catching glimpses of what the characters had gone through in the past was always the most compelling part of the show to me, while the romance and comedic bits were all just ok. But I was pleasantly surprised to see that the main characters graduate in the FIRST season! So I was really looking forward to see what their lives after high school were gonna be li- ...oh. The second season is entirely flashbacks of their high school days... because if anime has taught us anything, it's that absolutely everything interesting that'll ever happen to us in our lives can only ever happen exclusively within the confines of a high school... SIIIIIIIGH... So ya. While I respect this show for what it provided for and with its english voice cast, the show itself has a lot missed potential that left me wishing the story was taken in a more interesting direction.

Hori and Miyamura was one of the most toxic relationships I've seen in a while

Hori is an angry girl with masochistic tendencies, but it didn't matter to me. The problem started when she forced Miyamura to beat her against his will, and how did the director show this? what a cool guy!! His schoolmate admires him!

But the problem is even deeper.

In another scene, Hori's father asks her not to treat Miyamura so badly and not to yell at him, and Hori's reaction? Yes, as usual, she said to shut up and continued to rant, which she does throughout the series

Contrary to what the series wanted ... to show, Miyamura did not change at all.
Miyamura remained the quiet and secretive young man who allowed the demands of others to prevail over him. That's why he was able to tolerate Hori so much. Why should it be shown that making many friends will change you?

In a healthy relationship, you give something to your partner and you get something. But Miyamura only gave from the beginning to the end of the series. The end of this show is very cliched and superficial. Hori and Miyamura's relationship did not last long

The rest of the characters do not have much to say. They get lost in the shell of the story and cannot make room in the heart of the audience as they should
Maybe iura can be considered as a good character.

People start a series with different goals, but if you are looking for a deep and lovely romance, Horimiya is not a good choice.
