Kimi to Boku no Saigo no Senjou, Aruiwa Sekai ga Hajimaru Seisen

A force known as Astral power permeates throughout the world, wielded by astral mages. Fearing its destructive power, the "Empire" persecutes those who show their abilities. The tormented mages then founded the Nebulis Sovereignty to flee from their oppressors. Since then, the two nations have been in bitter conflict, the war still going strong for more than a century.

After committing the great crime of freeing an imprisoned witch, the talented knight Iska is sentenced to prison. A year later, the Empire leadership suddenly decides to set him free, with the condition that he hunts down a fearsome mage known as the "Ice Calamity Witch." Hoping to end the war, Iska agrees. Coincidentally, the Ice Calamity Witch herself, Aliceliese "Alice" Lou Nebulis XI, also wishes for peace and is willing to do everything she can to bring down the Empire.

As Iska and Alice both yearn for a crusade that will turn the world into one without struggle, woe, or pain, the strings of fate tie them ever closer together, creating a bond that goes beyond something fabricated by mere coincidence.

At this point what is not generic???
This is one of those shows that are simply good because it has funny moments, decent plot, fan service, etc…
If you want to see a light anime for fun, i think this would be a good choice.
I’m not saying this is the best thing in the world but it’s decent!🫡.
I’ll update the review once season 2 comes out. I don’t think it will be good as season 1 tho. We all know how the anime industry have been flopping newer seasons…
(I think this anime might be more for the male audience, i cant provide an insight because i ... saw it long time ago).

Very good art, drawings, sound, colors, etc…

Mixed Feelings

Sometimes I wonder how some anime adaptations got a season renewal because they made me believe that literally watching paint dry is a more suitable entertainment that doesn't let the effort of watching go to waste. Our Last Crusade (or better known as KimiSen) is one of those anime adaptations that made me raise my eyebrows. I don't understand why a series like this got the green-lit a year later after its premiere date. It's unfortunate that the premise doesn't spell trainwreck or cheeky guilty pleasure to me.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not picky about originality (as my most fave animes have generic said writing ... elements) though I won't be surprised it's LN source started off as a fanfic, but there are appropriate, whatmore proper executions in implementing the writing of generic characters and tropes. All of the major characters are written so one-dimensional that expecting them to have character development in the next arcs feels far-fetched. The protagonists themselves are uninteresting even though I'm so glad the female lead isn't written with the “magically strong heroine who literally loses her footing suddenly but her male love interest rescues her just in time” sexist trope.

As for the supporting characters, the hero’s allies/friends are also uninteresting. I don't believe a backstory for one of them can even have them get a basic decent characterisation. The commander and the engineer girls are obviously portrayed as moe fanservice with their voices depicted with very high-pitched tones and their character designs being drawn with the usual “cutesy bishoujo” looks that also goes along with the female lead’s shallow characterisation of a tsundere noble princess and the bland imouto character.

The action scenes are made, along with the BGM soundtracks, with an “okay & so-so quality”, but I couldn't care less since the overall presentation never invokes any negative feeling within me. Also most of the dialogue gets repetitive (and I'm a bit shocked this series is published as a seinen instead of shonen demographic) as if the audience needs to be treated like kids with a very short-term memory.

It's odd how there are some sequel seasons that have actual improvement than the first one. Probably why I decide to give some of those monotonous series a second chance. Hence, it's possible I might watch KimiSen’s sequel one though it's not my priority now and I only do that when I feel like it. I can only recommend this series if you don't mind watching another generic action-fantasy series that has a “good guys always win” tropes whilst the “Romeo and Juliet” theme happening in the background and that next season you don't mind watching another political plot that has the protagonists saving their worlds once more.

This show is pretty basic, it isn't that unenjoyable but it is very very incomplete. It's supposed to be a Romeo and Juliet like romance story, but the romance doesn't even develop in the entire show. Basically, the show fails at its main point, which is why I can't rate it higher than a four. The ending is not built-up to, and it feels like the show should've ended either later in the story or in the end of the second last arc that was covered. You can look at what my average rating is, and it is a 8.14 at the moment of writing ... this. In other words, this is the second lowest score I ever remember giving in over a 100 shows. If I were you, I would tell you to pass on this show. The military parts aren't that bad though, some of the politics seem average-written. Some of the characters are pretty forgettable as well (won't say who because spoilers) and by the end of the season it doesn't really feel like there was much progress. The show just didn't really go anywhere overall, and the characters don't seem to develop at all. I would ask you to not watch this show as it's probably not worth your time.
