Synopsis

The Holy Britannian Empire is a powerful nation that uses its military strength to expand its rule, and the small island nation of Japan is yet another victim. During a worldwide conflict in 2010 known as the Second Pacific War, the once-proud country was reduced to rubble and mockingly renamed to Area 11.

However, one student plans to free Japan from Britannia's control through an extraordinary rebellion. His name is Lelouch Lamperouge, and he is fueled with hatred for the Empire, plotting to wipe its accursed name off the face of the planet. Lelouch's malicious plans are unexpectedly accelerated upon meeting the mysterious woman C.C., who grants him a supernatural ability known as "Geass" that makes anyone Lelouch commands unable to defy his will.

Now armed with a devastating power, Lelouch assumes the persona of Zero, a revolutionary figure who carries the hopes and dreams of the oppressed around the world. He vows to restore the glorious nation of Japan and deliver divine retribution to Britannia.

Legendary tales are passed down from generation to generation. The tales of yore were often retold with minor alterations over time for one reason or another. Sometimes it was simply to update it for current times, other times it was merely for not remembering everything. Such stories were enduring for ages despite the very real possibility of being lost to time. Works such as Grendel owe their survival to the acts of translation and retelling. However, this idea is not exclusive to literature and family tales that remained unwritten; films and television series got this treatment as well.

This is not a substitute for watching the original series so you can experience all of Code Geass seasons 1&2 in just 3 movies but if you watched the show years ago and want to relive the experience but don't have time to marathon 2 seasons of anime then this does a far better job than most condensed to movie adaptations.

The stuff it leaves out/covers in less detail is generally very well done so the movie has a nice flow and still covers all the important developments. However they made one glaring mistake when it came to deciding what material to cut. This movie cuts read more

It's less, than the original, a lot less. I don't understand the reason for making three newish movies to change a single plot important thing, about Shirley while throwing a lots of things into chaos, it barely even matters anyway. She gets like a minute of new scenes, but at the same time almost all school interactions are cut, the only ones that are not, are those which are plot heavy, like the declaration, which is done differently too, almost all character backgrounds are also cut, the student council members barely have any screen time, let alone interactions with Lelouch, old and new scenes mixed read more

Painfully average is how I would describe my entire experience with this movie. I watched this right after I finished the original anime series and I was not expecting to dislike this movie so much. In my opinion, the movie has neutered what made the show so great. The building of the characters and the world. I get they have to cram a lot of ideas and plot into a small time frame, but the entire movie just failed to capture the original feeling of the anime. Everything felt rushed and barely explained. Almost all the school scenes were cut out. While I am happy read more
