Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!

Konosuba is an anime that I initially thought was going to be great. I mean, it had awesome character design, and it was funny! Well... as you can probably see by the score, my opinion changed pretty quickly. In my opinion, at least 90% of comedy anime are destined for failure, because not everyone is going to find them funny. This one is no exception.

STORY: 2/10

I'm pretty sure everybody has said this already, but, it really is true. After the extreme success of Sword Art Online the reality to game genre has become an insanely overused trope. Konosuba does have one thing going for it ... though... Instead of choosing to become ridiculously powerful like almost every other protagonist, this protagonist decides to take the wish granter with him to the 'subarashi sekai'. I can tell you, I wasn't expecting that!

The art itself in Konosuba... is bad. Really bad. As in, it looks way too old for 2016 quality. It could have been worse, MUCH worse, but it is by no means impressive. What is impressive however, is the animation, especially in episode 10, with all those explosion scenes. Radiant colors flaring everywhere, shapes of all different sizes, but most importantly, in the episodes with the succibi and in the mansion..... HOLY CRAP DID YOU SEE THOSE JIGGLE PHYSICS?!

Ugh... well, here goes. Konosuba's sound factor. The opening theme is very catchy. But not the kind of way that makes you want to sing it all the time, the kind that makes you regret ever haring it because you can't stop singing it. The ending theme as well, is just plain and not something anyone will remember. I did like how some characters got themes to match their personalities, but even then the music was mediocre at best. The voice acting is done decently, but is nothing special. The sound effects were also average.

CHARACTER: 4/10

I'll start off with character design. Unrecognizable. Every. Single. One of 'em. They have the traditional 'fantasy world' clothing and design, through and through. As for their personalities: Kazuma is a funny lead that tries to defy the harem cliches. Aqua is funny as well, and memorable for sure, but she is outshined by Darkness, a masochist. Yep. You heard me. A masochist. Hilarious! And of couuuurse, how could I forget fan favorite Megumin! Super cute and always unleashing explosions, what is NOT to love about these characters?!....... They aren't funny anymore. Usually unique characters being fit into a 10 episode anime like this are praised and loved by all, because there isn't enough time to realize the flaws in the character. (I'm guilty of this also). That's not the case with Konosuba. I think it was around episode 7 when I stopped laughing because I had heard the same jokes over and over again. By episode 10, they were straight up annoying.

Konosuba... ok, I'm not even going to say it had potential, because it didn't. It was doomed to fail from the start. If you consider this anime funny it is definitely something to try, but if not, don't bother. I would only recommend it to extreme fans of the reality to game genre, and.... well... that's it. If you enjoy it, good for you! As for me, Konosuba was not my cup of tea.

The originally unpopular main character is now being surrounded by thee whole bitches always with him and all of a sudden his personality of someone who's shut-in and lacks human contact, especially contact with girls his age is changed. He is no longer shut-in, no longer has problems talking to girls and they all drool over him.

The first 3 episodes, the most important ones about every show have absolutely no story and development, all that managed to happen was the main character learned the skill to steal these three bitches' underpants.

I find it hard to imagine how this anime has such a high score and ... ranked #300. It should be more like #11300. It's disgraceful and disgusting, how something so stupid and shallow is so popular. The whole story is how the main character is surrounded by horny bitches, one is dumb, the other is a tsundere and the third is a perverted masochist freak that wants to be humiliated and fucked all the time. It's disgusting.

Sound: 6 (who cares how the sound is as long as you hear the characters' voices and effects)

Character: 1 (there is no development and all the characters look and feel very unrealistic - the main character used to be a loser with no social experience, now bitches are flocking from all the continent to stay with him, because he's suddenly cool for no apparent reason. And these bitches' characters are all the same to each other, they are also overused archetypes in many anime, nothing original about them)

Enjoyment: 1 (there was no option 0, so I had to pick 1)

Overall: 3 (the two 6 for Art and Sound make it look like it's not that bad, but overall it's a horrible and overrated anime that I do not understand why is it so popular when it's so retarded and nothing happens in it)

After watching this, i was wondering for about a year... Why is this series so popular? "How" did it become so popular? When it's one of the most generic and most boring anime that has been released in the last 10 years. From the overall story to the animation, everything seems traced from every other fantasy anime, with the turn that this has comedy in it, but of course, the comedy is nothing from the other world, just plain comedy, and most of the time, you already knew when a joke was coming and what it was about.

The whole selling point of this was ... dying and going to another world of your choice (nothing new at this point, keep in mind that every one is doing it right now) but in this case is more of a game, rather than transporting to a "fantasy world". The comedy was sometimes fun, and other times bothersome by how repetitive it was, and for some reason, the MC screaming was somewhat funny for a selected group of people.

Of course, all of this can't be done without animation, but i don't really know if this series needed the animation, in the first place, while it felt a bit on purpose, it was horrible. From the characters moving, to what you get from a kid playing around with clay, deformed and the proportions wouldn't make any sense, but again, for some reason it felt like it was deliberately made that way, even nowadays Hentai series get better animation (Talk about being generous).

Sound it is hard to criticize as most anime have good audio, but it felt like there was 0 effort from the studio on putting the BGM in correct places. The seiyuu were a good choice, but the mc screaming all the time, is not something pleasing for anyone's ears.
While character development was ok for everyone, it felt "dry" or dull for anyone other than the MC, it felt slow paced, like if the only one of interest was the main chara when obviously the most interesting characters were the females.

Can't really explain my enjoyment for this, it was boring and predictable, while at some times they got me off guard, the animation was a main flaw that made me drop the number a lot, i wouldn't personally recommend this, but seeing how popular it is, most people would've heard of this already.

The best way to describe Konosuba is one trick pony. If the comedy doesn't do it for you, you will probably hate this show. Now occasionally it was funny, but the repetitive nature of Konosuba will wear you down and it's not like anything about the humor changes, just the situation. Admittedly, it was only funny during certain situations which is a problem for Konosuba stemming from it's foundation. Without anything to build on, the show can appear bland at times without the comedy.

Unfortunately, there’s no backbone to the story. The show takes an episodic approach for a simple underlying theme of friendship and ... wackiness. Now Konosuba has some charm to it, each character meshes and the setting is somewhat diverse, but it’s hard to immerse oneself into the world. When everything comes off as a joke, it’s hard to be impressed by the somewhat clever storytelling. Right off the bat from the first 10 minutes of the first episode, I knew this show would be a joke in itself, but scary thing is it could’ve been okay. The biggest problem with Konosuba is the same thing that can make it good. It suffers from a prison school like parody skit based “comedic” heavy trope. Episodic nature of the story may also hinder anyone from getting attached to the setting and conflict.

The characters have flare to them. A bright spot in this show are the characters, which have personality and their own charm. When I said the characters mesh, they have a decent chemistry together and isn’t as stagnant, especially with the 1:3 ratio of boy to girl. Interactions aren’t focused on blushing, touchy, teasing blah blah that many shows suffer from. It’s not cringy to watch like some shows, but the characters are lacking in resolve. Their half hearted at best and unlikable, especially aqua. It’s a shame because they suffer from the episodic sequence and storytelling. Their not as impactful as they could be, even if it is all a joke. Also pacing hurts the show by having awful side characters that leave a lot to be desired.

Animation and sound are pretty cool, a lot of vibrant colors that match the mood in a given scene and the color palette of each character fits who they are, whatever that means. Sound is good too, not as upbeat as I would like in a fantasy but its relaxing. Also adds to the comedy.

Konosuba was a weird show to watch and especially critique. I can’t tell if I like it or not; it has no hook but it keeps me hooked, it’s not funny but it’s funny, and characters are so dissatisfying but real. I was hoping in the back of my mind that it would become a harem, perhaps indirectly, but it’s better how it was than if it was a harem. The foundation of the show is comedy and that makes or breaks it. I believe it’s both its strong and weak points, but for those who are into occasionally funny innuendos, look no further as this is an above average comedy, however a below average piece of fiction. Eye of the beholder is subject to subjectiveness.

I had high expectations on this anime, but is too male chauvinist (unfortunately, this is so common in anime), nor is it funny (all their “jokes” are soooo predictable) and it is a topic that it has been toooooo used and above with the default characters of anime. The typical loser boy without girlfriend or anything who is an otaku and is never good at anything besides games who SUDDENLY is surrounded by sexy girls of all the four-five types of personalities this animes can conceive (the loli, the silly, the distant one, etc, you know) and the loser happens to be THE LEADER now ... (in this anime there is a godness, which ass has a looooot of shoots, a super powerful girl with fire magic type... But no, they’re silly, let’s trust in the loser!) and has to be taking care of this disastrous and sexualized girls. How tired he must be! Sigh...
Actually I don’t know how this popular, it seems to be wrote by an perverted otaku teenager copying his favourite anime/manga/game BUT changing a few things and inserting himself as the main character. 🤣🤣

The isekai world is nothing special at this point, and this world is as bland as it gets, but it's main point is the comedy:

Comedy:
By being on the Internet you already know the 3 main girls, the 3 of them have a very good contradiction joke that makes their whole character, but besides that nothing else, the same joke, while being a good joke in the 1st or maybe the 2nd time, it's repeated over and over and over...

However the Main Character has no "joke" at all, his thing ... is just being a huge jerk and pervert to the girls for no reason, often humiliating them in public, while getting zero repercussions, usually the girls make that scream where the camera points to the sky and stick with him. It is the worst kind of MC, single-handedly making the show unwatchable.
It lives the fantasy of being a pervert surrounded by cute girls whom will be with you while you can be rude to them and the anime treats it as "comedy".

I have a very simple requirement for anime. If it did not make me cringe, I would call it a good anime that is worth watching. This one, well, THIS one has made me cringed so many times I fell like stabbing everyone involved in it.

The story:
It's a typical setting. MC goes to another world and do some shit after he died. Pathetically. If I was in his shoes I would just die a second time, period. When he got there, he expected a grand adventure and awesome teammates. Spoilers. He got a taste of the real world and shitty teammates, whom might I ... add, forced themselves into his team because they are unwanted elsewhere for being too useless.

For the development, it got nowhere. They are supposed to defeat the Demon King, but they are not even halfway there, probably because they got too busy trying to pay off debts.

The characters:
In an action harem anime, it's a norm to have a useless male MC who got surrounded by capable girls. In this anime, it's the opposite: the MC is the only (slightly) useful one in the party. The rest of them are just trash: a bitchy goddess who's only good for healing and partying, a mage who will run out of juice after one spell, and a masochist knight who can't even cut a stationary target. Maybe this anime is trying to break the tradition. Or perhaps, maybe not. The MC is the only one who has made any growth, the others are useless from the beginning to the end.

And don't even get me started with the villain! This anime has only one villain, a Dullahan whose house was used as a target practice for the mage. Sure, he was very awesome at first, there's his whole appearance, and the way he cut down a lot of adventurers like it was nothing. But then, it went down the drain: the way he squealed like a little girl when he was about to be splashed by water, and when his head got kicked around like a football. Later, we also found out he is a pervert who uses his head to look under a Lich's skirt.

The fighting:
Again, there isn't anything decent. The only fight scene is between the MC and your typical knight in shining amour (no, I am NOT counting the "fight" between the Dullahan and the knight). This one barely has any action. MC stole the dude's sword and smacked his head with it, the end. Seriously?

One more thing, I can't tell whether this anime is trying to teach its audiences about the harshness of the real world or show them what a fantasy world looks like. On one hand, the MC started his adventure with a real job, and got more and more debt piled up because of his and/or his teammate's blunder. On the other, there is the MMORPG setting of this world where a character can learn a skill by registering it on his ID card thing, without any sort of training. Make up your mind, people.

I have read/ watched more than 100 mangas/ animes all these years, and I can tell you this: this anime isn't worth watching. I seriously don't know what's the hype about.

One of the worst isekai fantasy anime I've seen so far. It's supposed to be a comedy but I didn't chuckle even once. Even the very first "joke", where the main character learns he ended up in the isekai world because he died from shock after unnecessarily trying to save a girl from getting hit by a tractor who wasn't at all in danger and had both his parents and the doctors laughing at the sad way he died, fell absolutely flat, both in execution and comedic value. It only gets worse as you learn he is an absolute prick who ... doesn't try at anything, spends all day screwing around, has a superiority complex, and disparages others constantly. His very first deed was dragging the goddess who summoned him down onto the earth because he was spiteful of her impatience when he was choosing his equipment and skills for his grand adventure, then whines incessantly afterward that he has no special equipment or skills to do any higher level quests because of his own spiteful choices. His party members are all one dimensional heavily stereotyped fetish based female characters in yet another harem. There are no real quests, no real suspense, character development, discovery, intrigue, world building. Ansolutely devoid of everything. A typical episode is just the group having some awful conversation during a mundane quest, the main character being an absolute jackass while his harem falling all over him, and ending with him stealing panties using his thief skill or putting some girl in a compromising situation for fan-service. It boggles the mind how such an awful anime is so popular. It even has super low quality animation and art design so generic you could swap hair on the characters to change their positions. There's a newer anime called Shinchou Yuusha that follows the exact same comedic parody isekai goddess summoned rulebook, and yet the execultion is the polar opposite of this shit show.

I finally decided to watch it as I kept seeing memes of it everywhere and I wanted to know the fuss, but Konosuba is the first show I’ve watched where I can’t fathom its popularity.

There’s shows that I’ve disliked which are immensely popular, but I at least understood what they were going for. I don’t even particularly dislike Konosuba, I just don’t understand its acclaim within the anime community, as I don’t feel it fulfills any particular niche.

I went into this show expecting something that was kind of a cross between Steven Universe and Avatar, with how I kept seeing these “Aqua most useless ... goddess” memes, and knowing that she represented water. I thought the other characters were going to be Goddesses of different elements or something - but if anything, this proves why I should start actually reading the synopsis of shows I plan to watch instead of just going by what I hear everyone talking about.

The main thought that crossed my mind when watching this show was “I’ve seen all of this before so many times”. It’s a comedy ecchi harem anime set in a Western fantasy setting, stylised after MMOs. I’ve seen this exact premise so many times at this point that I’m sick of it, and frankly, I’m not sure what’s setting Konosuba apart from all of the other anime with the exact same themes.

All I’m seeing from this series is that it’s No Game No Life but less interesting. Whilst I thought this show was mind-numbingly average and not awful by any means, and it’s definitely better than other attempts at the same genre, I’m just sick of people buying into the same anime over and over dressed up slightly different each time. I like video games as much as the next guy but this is just getting dumb. Sword Art Online was a mistake, as it was what ultimately led to this craze.

I’m expecting some kind of retort of “but it’s supposed to be parody”, and maybe it is, maybe I’m missing the point, but satire and parody is supposed to be clear in intent and purpose, whereas Konosuba is just trying to emulate other isekai shows in such a run of the mill fashion.

As for the characters, you have player character self-insert generic anime boy, who I’m just going to ignore for the sake of this review.

You have Darkness, who’s a walking sex joke and has little to offer beyond that. I don't fundamentally have an issue with sex jokes, but the ones in Konosuba are particularly low brow. The fact that they kept repeating that panty stealing joke, I couldn't help but cringe at. Episode 9 was the only exception to this, due to the pure absurdity of the situation and the intentional second-hand cringe it gave. It was like watching an episode of The Inbetweeners with how confident in his own awkwardness Kazuma was played up to be for comedic effect, and I do think that was an example of that kind of humour done well.

And then you have the actual interesting characters.

Megumin’s concept is pretty funny. She has this chuuni way of speaking, which I suppose matches the fact that she’s clearly supposed to be young. She’s sassy, and refuses to learn any other kind of magic other than extremely powerful explosions, despite the fact that it completely immobilises her after one use. I like the idea of this, as she has potential to be used as a kind of trump card in certain situations whilst also being played for comedic effect.

Aqua, despite everyone’s insistence that she’s completely useless, is by far the most useful asset to the party (maybe that’s the joke?), being able to heal, purify and use water magic. As a character though, I don’t feel she has much to offer beyond being ditzy and the one everyone picks on.

Overall, I feel all the female characters are pure waifu bait, and maybe that’s the appeal of this show? But even then, there’s waifu bait characters in shows that are more interesting and conceptual than this, like Steins;Gate or the Fate franchise.

A friend of a friend called me out for using "waifu bait" as he called it invalid criticism, so I'll try to break down further why I think it's a problem with this show.

He told me the show relies on comedy as its main selling point, and to that I have to present the question "Would it still be funny if the characters were men instead of beautiful young women?" and the answer is firmly a no. The characters are funny because they play into traits in women that are tantalizing to the male audience. Lose that aspect, and the show is no longer funny. Therefore, I don't think "waifu bait" is a bad description here, even if a crude one.

Now for the stuff that usually doesn’t have a huge affect on my overall opinion: The animation is decently above average. It’s colourful and fluid, with nice effects for magic. The music’s ok but not particularly memorable, as it sounds like every other slice of life soundtrack from what I’ve heard and remember.

I have nothing else to say as I find this show has so little to offer and talk about.

Absolutely terrible.

I thought this show had some degree of promise, in both character design / development and comedy. It falls flat abruptly in all departments. There is not one constitution that this anime does well in besides the average art design.

Story :

Rubbish. Fight demon king, does the cliche '' I choose you'' option, picking out the deity presenting the weapons. Who could have seen that coming - clearly not the goddess,as she was obliged to conform to his request whilst in a state of shock.

The adventure begins.

The primary focus is the comedy, which like all comedy, is a hit and miss, but at a slightly objective standpoint, the comedy is recycled and often uses juvenile sexual innuendos as the focal point.

Their journey is just doing odd tasks in the most desperately goofy way possible. It mostly feels episodic and not much of anything happens most of the time, as they are busy making their recycle jokes on rewind.

Again, this is nothing but comedy. Recycled comedy revolving around juvenile sexual humour. Don't expect engrossing combat mechanics, character development, or any insight into the characters - they are goofy to be, well, goofy.

If you don't get exhausted watching cheap, juvenile fights, where the characters employ crappy, futile strategies over and over again (doing the same thing), just to be funny, then this is for you. *does an attack* *doesnt work* gets eaten gets saved, does it again. Funny. As for mechanics themselves, it's just bright colours with properties not defined.

There is never really any threat of anything serious happening.


Characters :

The worst attribute. The already lacking story substance is further diluted by the terrible characters.

The characters are all mentally destitute to the point where they sound like broken muppets on rewind. Their jokes became painfully predictable and bland, very quickly. There is no way you can get invested in any of the characters due to their well resolute character design with no development.

As mentioned earlier, they are made so desperately goofy and repetitive that you often don't need to listen to what they say, as 90% of it is a comedic premise you have more or less heard explicitly earlier on the same episode, and the one before that. Yes, the author likes repeating jokes, despite this being a 10 episode anime.

You have the character Darkness, whom is a crusader that loves to get turned on and twist almost any comment into some desperate sexual reference on rewind.She misses all strikes and just stands there as a shield and her clothes rip off. That's the gimmick. Then, there is the character Megumni, whom only uses explosion magic which renders here immobile after one use, despite all logic- cause it's funny. The Goddess Aqua, whom the main character tricked into joining him (again, the cliche ''I choose you'', how could you have seen this coming scenario), uses water party tricks and some bright rays of light that works well against undead. Not that it's used profoundly, its just shoot and it either falls flat for comedy, or it is ridiculously powerful. As for the main character, he acts as a medium to a small voice of reason amidst the nonsense, which was a nice touch. But most of the time, he is just whining about the antics while going through with it, or only adding to it. He is a teenage virgin surrounded by 3 attractive females as a gimmick, and goes through the cliche rejection of any advances, lack of reciprocation of any advances despite strong offerings, all the while being a virgin and having perversions whom acts out his bickering and whatnot with the characters. Not cliche at all. Written this way just not not complicate the stupid-themed anime with any relationships.

konosuba is the most overhyped anime i have ever seen. I have heard people rave about how its so funny and how its not like all the other isekai anime. While it is slightly different to most isekai anime, it was a huge let down when it comes to comedy.

It's literally an isekai but dude doesn't become a hero. It's nothing ground breaking and I would say its less original than most anime out there. It doesn't take a mastermind to come up with an idea like this.

The characters are drawn kinda weird and sometimes the faces are like a weird mix ... between a serious attempt to draw their face and the not so serious attempt you would find in a comedy scene, creating this weird looking hybrid. I'm pretty sure it is supposed to be funny but it fails in my opinion.

The characters are somewhat different from the norm which makes it slightly interesting to watch however you shouldn't expect deep and realistic characters. So this puts them slightly above average at 6/10

At least with other isekai i have something to keep me going throughout the series, which is the hero trying to face the main antagonist. Even though a lot of anime follow this same formula and it is generic, it is still somewhat interesting and can be pretty good if done well. Konosuba, however, has nothing going for it. There is no greater plot where the mc saves the world from evil or anything. Based on what I have heard, the comedy is what keeps people watching but since I couldn't find anything funny in this series, there was little compelling me to continue the series and I actually thought I dropped this series until I had a look and noticed I did actually complete it.

Seriously this anime made me bored, it's like every generic nameless long titled anime and yet this one seems to be popular. I honestly have no memorable memory of this anime, normally I'd at least have one memorable moment but this one draws my mind blank. The music is forgettable, the art is forgettable, everything was forgettable. But what I do remember is how stale it was, the jokes were repetitive and were just sexual innuendos. It felt like the jokes were made by an immature adult or a paedophile.

Instead of this being a comedy it was a nightmare, the main ... females were very irritating. They all had amazing powers but could not unleash it and had to be saved none other by a NEET. The only one who was the closest to being useful was the main perverted lead who had no significant skill nor was relatively powerful as his teammates. So how is he the most useful you may ask? He's the only one with some common sense. Which is the bare minimum. The other useful one is the sword fighter masochist, and it's not because she's a sword fighter it's because she is a masochist; she can be used as a human shield.

Look I can laugh at the most stupid stuff but this was just ludicrous. This was by far one of the most overhyped anime for me, normally I'm generous with my reviews but this is just unforgivable.

Now, do I recommend this? Depends, if you like sexual innuendos and repeated predictable jokes then sure. I personally give this anime a 2, 1 for the migraine and the other for the loss of braincells.

I don't usually watch isekai genre, but i felt compelled for a number of reasons: Takahashi Rie is a cheerful seiyuu, MAL score (should have learned by now not to trust it), the "comedy".

In MAL the anime is listed as: Adventure; Comedy; Fantasy; Magic; Parody; Supernatural, and all boxes are checked, but adventure. Imagine whatever MMORPG that you ever played, as much as you might like your initial city you eventually have to leave it to fight more difficult monsters in other regions and in Konosuba they are able to everyday return to their initial city. Is that all? Of course it isn't. Since there ... is a lack of adventure they could at least provide some good fights and there aren't any, the few that we watch are plain boring.

The art is enjoyable, but mostly from the characters, don't expect beautiful scenarios or any of the such. Sound effects are lame, there are one of two worth praising, but that's it.

Characters are plain and shallow, "like any other character from your average isekai", but whoever picked the seiyuus nailed it in the head because their interaction are on point.

I didn't enjoy that first season at all, and I really wanted to, I liked both Aqua and Megumin's characters, but with such a lame story and no sense of adventure I would be wasting my time in season 2.

It was supposed to be funny, but the humor was crude and poorly thought, besides being forced.

I think it tried to copy Gintama style comedy, while following Slayers, while following the harem recipe of Aah Megami-sama, while being isekai, but because it was, I think, rushed for some reasons, it didn't succeeded. ( good for nothing hero gets thrown into a magical world which follows basic RPG rules, the party is made of sorceresses, and here it is supposed to ... be built a story foundation for funny moments which makes its comedy, the sorceresses are overpowered, the magic it is recited, the spells are strong and flashy (Slayers style), and the plot of Megami sama, some goddess is wished to be part of the world where the main character is wished to, but the difference is that there is no amorous relationship between them. )

They tried very hard to please the fans, hence containing all sorts of "pleasing" techniques besides moe, fanservice and so on.

Also, I think that, while the seiyuus were talented, they couldn't handle the poor written story, commercial recipe style.... It was a waste of talent in my opinion.

The openings and the endings were dramatically poor.

The art style was bad and you know it very well whenever you see lack of shades, of countouring, simpler shading, and so on.

I think as an anime, it's good to watch only if you miss Slayers and want to see something new.

The release of sword art online saw a whole wave of these MMO RPG genre shows which I don't entirely despise, but generally dislike. This show was no exception. Firstly, the character design was decent, I liked most of them and especially enjoyed it when megumin would make an appearance, being the shows most likeable asset. However each episode felt as if it was going nowhere and each episode I also came to realise the lack of anything. The animation was terribly lazy with way too many still frames, the op was generally bad. And I found myself bored by the end of each episode. ... Do not get drawn in by the cute characters and fun look of this show, I can tell you it is anything BUT a comedy and often had me feeling deppresive about how bad the half assed attempt at comedy was. This is definitely a MUSTN'T watch show

I honestly don't get all the hype behind Konosuba. I sat through every episode thinking to myself, "Okay is THIS when I'll start liking the show?", only to finish an episode with dissatisfaction. I even tried a bit of the second season to see if, maybe, it gets better. It doesn't. Maybe it's because I don't like when characters are genuinely mean to each other or maybe I don't like asshole characters, but I didn't really like... any of the characters. Maaaaybe Kazuma since he's often the voice of reason but even then I kinda didn't like him.

The humor... I don't understand why people ... think this show is funny?? I don't remember a single time I laughed, except for maybe when Darkness did her whole shtick the first time. Also, each character's "funny quirk" got old really quickly when it's like, the one thing they do all the time. Just feels like beating a dead horse.

I also don't remember the story. Maybe because Konosuba doesn't really have one, more like slice-of-life stuff but even then there are no memorable moments for me. All I remember is generic fetch quest stuff that you see in every other isekai anime.

This show also falls under a term I'm going to co-opt as a "horny guy anime" cause you can TELL that this anime is definitely marketed towards horny guys. And sometimes that's forgivable if the show is actually better than decent, but honestly... this show has nothing that lets me forgive the sheer horniness of it all. Almost every girl is big-chested to the point that I feel sympathetic pain for her back, or wears clothes so revealing it leaves me wondering if there's some in-universe magic going on to keep everything from showing. The one exception is Megumin, but then again they crack jokes about her being flat-chested, which is SUCH an overused joke and was never funny in the first place. I will give props to the show for not making EVERY girl character immediately like Kazuma, but it kinda falls flat with their fanservicey designs. Honestly I just don't like fanservice, cause imo it's a cheap and quick way to earn points with the male demographic. Pity that I have to sit through it with a lot of popular anime.

If you're looking for a way to pass the time cause you literally have nothing better to do and nothing else to watch, then this show is for you (I literally watched this show while recovering from an injury). If you actually have things to do, then skip this show. It's generic and decent AT BEST, and you can honestly find better.

Ok, I went into KonoSuba looking for a light-hearted anime to get a change of pace from my usual Seinen Manga or Horror / Shonen Anime but holy hell. To put it simply the characters in this show ruin it HARD. Aqua, Darkness, Megumi, and whatever the main characters name is, is sooooooooo 1 dimensional, it is so irritating to see aqua do anything in this show. She gets under my skin so much and it is so annoying.

While my mindset was originally was to attempt something new, I did try other anime like No Game No Life, to see if it was just ... the Isekai Genre I dislike as a whole. No, it is just KonoSuba.

The literally only enjoyment I got out of this show was episode 9 (;. But somehow they ruin that plotline by overdoing it! The show shows boobies and such just to get a kick out of gentlemen. IF I WAS GOING TO WATCH HENTAI I WOULD'VE WATCHED HENTAI. NOT TEASE THE EVERLASTING SHIT OUT OF ME.

I am big on the plot in my anime. Even SAO has a least a better storyline than this. ( SAO isn't that good as well )

It really annoys me that animes with this story get this form of animation unlike some pieces like Berserk, GunGrave, Cowboy Bebop gets old animation or flat out just bad animation. I just think there are so many masterpieces out there that deserve a proper anime adaptation! Like Uzumaki! Or Vagabond!!! Not Killing Stalking though..

My main point is a lot of these types of anime with annoying characters or endless fan service ( Don't Look At HighSchool DXD Being On My To Watch List... ) and especially when the plot does not feel impactful. That is the main thing that bugs me about this anime.

Also, Konosuba on HBO Max has 11 episodes for the 1st season. I don't know why, I don't know who made the mistake, but there's only 10 episodes on this site.

I heard about this anime a while back on 2016. Due to personal reasons, I wasn't able to watch it. But, when I got HBO max and saw it on there and heard that ... it was good from one of my friends, I decided, "let's give it a try".

I despised the anime.

Episodes 9 and 11 had full on sexual harassment. I've been sexually harassed in my life before... 4 times, actually. It's not something to joke around about.

Even the sexual jokes that weren't sexual harassment, were over done by that point. At first, the non-SH sexual jokes were kind of funny. But, then, they were highly overused, overdone, and copied and pasted type of jokes by episode 8/9.

The story:

poor, because of the sexual harassment and over done jokes.

the Art:

poor; it wasn't consistent.

Sound:

everything involving sound was okay.

The characters:

Pathetic... for obvious reasons.

Enjoyment:

Pathetic.... obvious reasons.

Overall:

1, pathetic.

Short answer -
Disappointing. Jokes get kind of repetitive and it flip flops between being self-aware and not at all. You will probably enjoy if you laugh easily or like ecchi jokes.

Long answer-
My friends recommended this to me non-stop and its all over the internet how 'funny' it is. Now im not gonna invalidate people if they liked it or found it funny, its clearly their cup of tea and there's nothing wrong with that. That being said I hope people don't take it personally when I say this, but it was incredibly unfunny to me.

I realise I probably had way too high expectations for ... a dumb light anime full of fun, but the jokes and one-note characters fell incredibly flat to me. That and I've grown out of my desensitised to ecchi stage and now I mostly just get grossed out by panty and sexual jokes in anime. The jokes get old fast but the author still relies on them like beating a dead horse.
I think the jokes lack a lasting punch because they're one-note and repetitive and the anime itself lacks substance.

My biggest problem with this anime was that I found it unfunny and generic. I got told that I was wrong because actually "its subverting isekai and harem jokes duh" and I say to that "then tell the author that!". He's the one """subverting""" generic isekai/harem tropes but then playing into them the next scene. It can't seem to decide whether it wants to make fun of those stereotypes or be those stereotypes.
