God Eater

The year is 2071. Humanity has been pushed to the brink of extinction following the emergence of man-eating monsters called "Aragami" that boast an immunity to conventional weaponry. They ravaged the land, consuming almost everything in their path and leaving nothing in their wake. To combat them, an organization named Fenrir was formed as a last-ditch effort to save humanity through the use of "God Eaters"—special humans infused with Oracle cells, allowing them to wield the God Arc, the only known weapon capable of killing an Aragami. One such God Eater is Lenka Utsugi, a New-Type whose God Arc takes the form of both blade and gun.

Now, as one of Fenrir's greatest weapons, Lenka must master his God Arc if he is to fulfill his desire of wiping out the Aragami once and for all. The monsters continue to be born en masse while the remnants of humanity struggle to survive the night. Only God Eaters stand between the Aragami and complete and total annihilation of the human race.

Adapted from a video game, God Eater stands out among its peers with its promising premise and unique approach. While many anime adaptations of games fall short, this one manages to hold its ground, offering a visually striking experience and engaging characters.

The animation, often a point of contention among viewers, is one of God Eater's strongest assets in my opinion. Its bold art style and dynamic action scenes may not appeal to everyone, but they effectively set the tone for its grim, post-apocalyptic world. The characters are another highlight, each given enough background and development to feel relevant, especially given the anime's relatively short runtime.

However, ... where God Eater falters is its story. Initially, the premise feels familiar yet intriguing, delivering a solid post-apocalyptic narrative with high-stakes action. Unfortunately, after episode 7, the story becomes increasingly predictable, losing its initial spark. For those well-versed in similar anime or video games, the plot twists and developments are easy to anticipate, making the latter half of the series less compelling.

Overall, I’d give God Eater a solid 6/10. It’s a decent choice for a weekend binge, particularly if you enjoy post-apocalyptic settings or are a fan of the game. While it may not break new ground, it offers enough entertainment to pass the time—just don't expect it to leave a lasting impression.

Mixed Feelings

TL;DR: If you like worldbuilding then this is for you but you have to look past chapter 1.

This anime is not bad but at the same time it's not that good.

The first chapter is super bad and boring but if you can look past that then you are awarded with an above average anime.

I personally liked the entire thing minus the first and last chapters that were boring af.

The world-building is surprisingly well done and it's the best aspect of the anime, if it wasn't for it i would have dropped the anime, the problem is that the rest is so boring in comparison that ... you only look forward to the worldbuilding bits of the anime, if all the women didn't have super suggestive clothing and disproportionate bodies and those 2 chapters werent so boring then i would have given this anime a 10, just because of the world building.

The main cast of characters are normal, it has some shonen troupes but i guess we can't ask for all that much in an anime based on a videogame. The animation is alright but the art style is astounding in my opinion.

When i first watched this show I sort of had that odd feeling. Mid way through it felt like a complete rip off of Shingeki No Kyojin/Attack on Titan. No offense tho.
Although the art of the show felt very unique, the story lacked alot, not to mention the ending has to be the worst of any kind. Instead of answering the needed questions it instead opened new boxes. What the hell was this?
Overall 1.5/10. That too cause of the art style. The story sucks.
The way in which it was similar to AOT was the monsters beyond a certain point, humanity living within a certain ... boundary, soldiers who risk their lives for the betterment of humanity, main character motivated to free the humans, people not knowing that the man in charge has a son, this part felt so much relatable to the Uprising Arc of AOT. During the final eps we find ourselves in front of an intelligent enemy, one who humans thought were just mindless eaters. Sounds familiar? Yes it does.
Excuse me for the rant, but this show sucked.
