Haja Kyosei G Dangaiou

*Sigh* Great Dangaioh. The one sequel that nobody talks about, because it isn't WORTH talking about. After a rather impressive first episode, G-Dangaioh derails, going into mediocre anime tropes and a story that seems to go nowhere until the last second. Even then, with an ending that remorselessly rips off the finale of Mazinger Z VS Ankoku Daishogun, the final revelation is how much time you wasted thinking this would be a good show.

It even tries to save itself with the nostalgia factor: Mia Alice appears for one episode, the main male pilot's brother is voiced by Akira Kamiya (the VA for Roll Kuran in the original Dangaioh) and he even pilots an original Dangaioh-esque robot. However, there are some trainwrecks that can't be averted, no matter how hard you try.

The true tragedy that this exact treatment happened years later with Dancougar Nova: Take a classic anime, make a sequel that barely links back to the original, and include original voice actors as a red herring. That's right, somebody thought what G-Dangaioh did was SUCH a good idea that they flat out ripped off the format, right down to the second random rival robot. It makes one want to punch things.

It's been said that the reason Dangaioh, Part 2 never materialized was due to its creator running out of ideas. If that's the case then lightning has truly struck twice here. Dangaioh fans, avoid this like the plague that it is and track down the Dangaioh VS Iczer-1 drama CD. Because it's the closest we're ever going to get to a proper follow-up.

Great Dangaioh is an anime smliar to the Gundam Series whille the story is good though but once the finale kicks in the ending will basically confuse you which the final episode felt rushed so if youre not a fan of anime with unsolve issues then i recommend not rewatching it but the beginning of it is good though

Great Dangaioh is the sequel to Haja Tensei Dangaioh, one of several 80s super robot OVAs. It was mostly well known for it's gorgeous production values,music, and being one of the notable productions that Masami Obari worked on. Personally I liked it, though it severely lacked a proper ending and didn't have much going for in terms of characters and plot. Hirano couldn't get the proper funding for it, so years later set out to do a sequel/revival of Dangaioh. When it was in production it was gonna set out to be 26 episdes, but we only got 13 of them. This is mainly because the show got low ratings and got cancelled, so technically this would be an unfinished series.

The plot here unlike in the original which was a typical Pilots vs Evil space empire story, Here it's a group of Terrorists that send out to take over the world and the Great dangaioh team sets out to take them down. The plot for what there is, is pretty standard stuff, but I'd say it does it's job and that's all you can ask for.

I will say that there is sort of a sense of mystery that I got from Great Dangaioh, like there was something going on that it was building up to something greater in the same vein as Big O, though not as good. However since the show was canned, This was never followed up on, Which is a shame

The characters are pretty alright, not as memorable as the original team, but they're tolerable enough. The biggest issue is that there wasn't enough to them to really find much to care about them, which is a shame.

As for the connections to this and the original, well it's got mia alice in there and makes nods to it, and that's pretty much it. Maybe they were gonna expand upon that, but that not never happened.

animation wise, the looks pretty good for the time. It's definitely not as good looking as the first one since that was an OVA, but Great dangaioh still delivers some good action scenes.
The art is a lot different from the original, specifically the mech design department. While the original went for really over the top 80s mech designs, This one is more reminiscent of trying to look more like 70s super robots, Specifically Great Mazinger. Heck the Dangaioh mechs kinda pay homage to Great mazinger too. The bad guy mechs look like modern takes on 70s MOTW baddies, but still decent looking. I personally prefer the way the original looks, but I think some of the new mech designs are pretty good for what they are, specially Dangaioh ur. Oh as for Great dangaioh,The title mech, only shows up for 5 minutes until it ends, which sucks.

Voice acting is decent in japanese, though the only note worthy performance is Akira Kamiya voicing one of the pilots. There was an english done in the phillipines and it's not really that good, since it lacks direction and sounds very awkward. Music I feel the same as I do with the art, pretty decent. The OP fighting Chance is a pretty good hot blood song, though the ED is pretty forgettable. The score was done by Toshiyuki Watanabe(Vifam, Devilman lady, Fighbird) and it's pretty good and fits the show rather nicely.

Great Dangaioh is at best a decent but rather unremarkable super robot show. If it wasn't cancelled and would fully finish it probably could have turn out pretty good, but as it stands it feels unfinished. Still what's there was enough to keep my interest, so I don't regret it as a whole.

hmmm, this is what happens when an anime loses its way, it started off like a decent if not somewhat generic mecha anime, and had all the characters, female side kicks, commanders and auxillary staff, mysterious people, and the weak male lead, from there nothing happened, there was a completly nonense level in the middle of the series which was a waste because that wasnt expanded on later,

to top that off the ending did nothing to the show expect make us wondering what the f-- just happened, there was no great conflict or even falling action it just jumped off the deep end on a new tangent while not summing anything up

the story was so botched, and the weak male never gained them juevos grandes like they do in other shows, weak in the begining, weak to the end
