Synopsis

Saving the world... by fishing?

Yuki Sanada has always felt like a fish out of water. Socially awkward and anxious, he struggles to fit in with his surroundings and moves from town to town with his grandma. As he and his grandma settle into the charming seaside town of Enoshima, Yuki hopes for a fresh start. However, his reputation at school is jeopardized by the arrival of fellow transfer student Haru. The eccentric Haru immediately makes a splash, wildly claiming to be an alien and declaring that Yuki is his friend. Pairing the reluctant Yuki with their classmate and fishing talent, Natsuki Usami, he tasks both of them with the absurd mission of saving the world from a mysterious threat in the ocean. Mischief and hijinks ensue, as these three embark on a whimsical adventure filled with laughs, heart, and self-discovery!

I randomly approached this anime and it was surprisingly good.
I'll say in advance that fishing doesn't appeal to me, even if I practiced it sometime: by the way, this wasn't the main reason because I liked Tsuritama this much.

PLOT (7): everyone can come up with a story like this, because it's extremely simple; anyway, the plot is treated in an original way.
A guy is chosen to save the world from a mysterious enemy and, in order to do that, he has to... fish.. yeah, kinda weird but it definitely felt like a breath of fresh air.
No need to create new universes, extraterrestrial creatures, strange space ...

Mixed Feelings
Tsuritama feels like something studio SHAFT would make, as it has weird artsy animation and characters that are or act like they are aliens.
- And yet it is not made by SHAFT but rather by A-1 Works, which translates to good production values.
- It is also part of the NoitanimA timeslot, so it is bound to have lots of artistic makeup and josei overtones.
- And it’s by Nakamura Kenji, the director of Mononoke, Kuuchu Buranko, and C, so expect some really crazy stuff in it.

STORY

My impressions about the plot were just one big MEH as there was literally no real hook in the story. It ...

I just have to say that this has to be the most boring anime I have ever watched, and trust me, I've seen my fair bit.

This anime made me sleep worse than watching a 60 year old play Cabela's fishing 2009. It was horrendous because it starts slow, try's to add some excitement, then disappoints you to the fullest when you realize it's just the same thing but with a twist.

I would highly advise steering away from this show if you don't ultra enjoy slice of life shows, this show is LITERALLY about fishing and that is all
