Hi! I'm Kathir. You can call me that or my username (or anything, really). I've seen people call me Uji before, so I'm cool with that as well. I enjoy football (of the American variety 🏈), jazz (I play tenor sax!), and K-pop, among other things. I'm currently in university double majoring in math and computer science.

Fun fact: I wrote my main essay for admission to my college about One Punch Man. I applied as a physics major so they essay is off the mark for what I do nowadays but it was fun, lol.

I'll become a functional member of society someday. Yeah, someday...

Rating System

Alright, here's the obligatory disclaimer: No matter how objective I try or claim to be, all of my ratings are somewhat, if not entirely influenced by my preferences. There are certainly inconsistencies and 'bad takes', but that's just how it is.

Also, there are only 10 ratings... The gap, even within 2 consecutive integer ratings, is vast. My low 8s and high 8s are leagues apart, and the difference between some of my lower 7s and upper 7s is like night and day. BUT, since it's a spectrum, there are cases where there's only a very very slight difference between a high 7 and a low 8. I can't help this issue, so it is what it is. Whole numbers induce anxiety, unfortunately.

Also, the standards described below are for anime. My standards for manga are different because I have different ideals in the different medium. I can't be bothered to detail those standards here though, so yeah.



Score Descriptors

Note: All images are clickable and lead to a link to an entry that corresponds with the score.

[1] - Saved for those weird ass dementia OVAs and other miscellaneous shits that have no valuable merits whatsoever.

[2] - So bad that I might have to multitask while watching it because it is hard to focus on it. Otherwise, an extremely problematic message or terrible production values can result in this rating (or it is a meme).

[3] - Just bad, and possibly really really boring as well. The message might be offensive, or the execution is absolute dog shit (or it is a meme). Shows that start off good or decent, but have horrendous endings can end up as low as here.

[4] - A generally okay show that is certainly tolerable, but doesn't have enough innovation to set it apart from its peers. Sometimes it is set up to be really good, but fails in some way, completely missing the expectations that I have for it.

[5] - Solid, but there isn't any facet that makes it special. It might be really entertaining, but there are things preventing it from being great. Regardless, it's not a show I'd dump on unless it was set up to be something greater than what it ended up being in the end.

[6] - A good show that kept me interested the whole way through. Sometimes, boredom with a genuinely well-received show can leave it at a 6 as opposed to higher. There may be small issues with characters, pacing, or production quality, but they aren't detrimental to the final product at all. My 6s and higher have indisputably positive connotations in my mind.

[7] - A great show that typically does basically everything right and is as entertaining as it could be. I believe that the high 7s mark the start of the kind of shows that I regard highly in every sense and would usually consider myself "a fan" of.

[8] - A fantastic show that does an excellent job of telling its story (or whatever it was supposed to do). Some bias may play into an anime receiving an 8 as opposed to a 7 if it's on the edge, but in any case, an 8 marks the range at which a show has outperformed all of my expectations and proves itself as an awesome experience.

[9] - A phenomenal work of fiction that stands atop the peak of what I think anime is able to offer. Some aspect of this show propels it to the heights that it reaches as a frontrunner in the medium. Anime with this rating may not be unparalleled, but they're among the best anime that I've ever seen.

[10] - Honestly, I struggle so much with maintaining and keeping track of my 10s that I don't know if it's even worth the trouble of having any. I sincerely believe that my 9s are simply the best that anime can get, and anything that receives a 10 is just an RNGed +1 that I give out on some sort of indescribable whim. It's not even that I necessarily think any of my 10s are unequivocally better than my high 9s. So uh... yeah, ignore it I guess.

My Manga Collection

The interest stack linked to the image on the left (as well as the title) is a summary of all the manga and light novel volumes I currently own. I started passively buying manga in July 2022 and plan to grow my arsenal for recreational purposes at the expense of whatever surplus income I'd otherwise be entitled to enjoy. It's not much right now, but once I graduate, I'm probably going to go ham with it (for better or for worse).

I've never actually re-watched anything (as of 9/10/20), but I really feel the need to do so for some shows. Imma put all of the shows I want to re-watch at some point with a burning urge here.

I don't know when the right time will be, but I promise this: I will re-watch Gintama as many times as I must every few years in order to keep in touch with my roots.
