| Last week, as many of you probably have noticed, MAL received a huge server hardware upgrade. We also changed our MySQL databases to Innodb. This puts us on a path to sustainability for the short-mid future. We're looking at more options to make sure we stay ahead of the performance problems. I know this has been an extremely long time coming, and I deeply apologize for the delays in getting these much needed hardware changes done. One down side to switching to Innodb is our lack of fulltext indexing. Thus, we had to lose search in the forums. We're planning on adding it back in once we're able to implement an efficient solution. I don't have an estimate on when it will be back. User anime/manga, signature, and series stats should now running without issue now as well. I've added a prioritization queue, so if the server is inundated with stat requests, the person who has waited longest will get updated first. Sorry for the delayed announcement. I wanted to post when we made the server changes, but we wanted to monitor performance first. Expect some more bug fixes and enhancements in the near future. Now that our performances issues are largely resolved (for now), I can focus on the ridiculously growing/embarrassing bug/feature request list. |

For me it was very useful because when i post i do it as a part of a conversation and i want to be able to check back the thread i posted in case someone has an opinion on my opinion. I can't remember every place i posted otherwise. You may like to just post a once sentence comment in the spam forum just to increase your post number but some of us post many times because they actually have something to talk about. Xinil when you say you have no estimation when search will be back to you mean you can't estimate in short-term or longterm? Are we talking about staying like that more than a year? |

| I still think wiping the forums entirely (outside of their functions with the clubs) and just using a simple phpBB2-3 board with a separate DB elsewhere would improve the site even more. Sure I've noticed some improvements, but this place is still far from perfect and I won't be surprised at all if we're hit by more huge week long lag spikes again from time to time. |

| Why not implement google search until you come up with something on your own? Monad said: I used it the same way, but the thread-watching function at the top right works aswell. It's not as convenient though.Speak for yourself. Don't worry about the delay, it's understandable you wanted to monitor the situation a bit first. It's very good to see the lag is gone. I understand you worked very hard on it, good job everyone! I like the prioritization system you put up as well, seems pretty fair. Of course I'm not happy about the search function being gone, but I understand the problem and will wait to see it back, possibly in an even improved shape. Now I'm very looking forward to the bug fixes and enhancements that you mentioned. Keep up the good work! |
