Hey there. My name is Garrett Gyssler and I'm 24 years old. I created, sold and still actively develop MyAnimeList.net. I live in Southern California and work full time for a web development company in Riverside (web company is not affiliated with MAL).
I started watching Anime sometime in 2001. I had watched DBZ once or twice in the past, but it didn't really interest me. A friend of mine showed me Trigun one day though...and that was it for me. I was hooked. Soon after Cowboy Bebop came into the picture and from then on, there was no turning back. :)
A little bit of information about MyAnimeList. It started back in November, 2004. All code, design, and images (not the anime ones) are done by yours truly. There are no other developers. In the beginning, I was using my personal website http://www.xinil.net . After about a year and a few months (at this time there were only about 250 users), I decided I wanted to expand the user base. So, the only practical way I could think to accomplish this was: buying a catchy domain. I bought MyAnimeList.net and ported everything over (April 2006 the site was officially moved over). Since then we've had a huge influx of new users. I'm loving the community that is growing here and I hope everyone joins in on the fun. :)
Don't be afraid to drop a comment and say hi. I try to respond to all messages and comments. Please don't post external links and or pictures though.

This is quite sad. Every time I happen to stumble upon your profile, I see that it is swarming with people complaining about something or other! Gah. You poor man.
These people, I'm sure (I would hope so..), have no idea how rude they are coming off. And I am sure they all really, in fact, appreciate this incredible feat of yours, this fantastic website that you've somehow been able to maintain, even with the ungodly amount of people joining every day!
Well anyway. Sorry. I would like to apologize for all of the people who cannot endure MySQL errors, and cannot possibly live with their inbox saying they have 6000 messages. I understand that it is quite dreadful when comments take a whole minute to appear! And I completely sympathize with the people who are receiving messages from clubs they are not a part of .. oh! My goodness, how cruel of you, for allowing this to happen!
Sigh ..
Yeah. Welp. Anyway. Thank you for providing us with such a useful place to find more anime and manga fans, and a place for us all to gather, within this cozy little Little? Ha. community :)

I'm having a problem with joining clubs. I join them, but it doesn't say I'm in them and I can't post in them. When I click 'Join Club' again, it brings up the 'There was a MySQL Error. The staff has been notified and is looking in to it. We apologize for the inconvenience.' thing.
