Both are done by the same studios and have very similar animation, and the 'family' feeling amongst crew members in both series is very strong, particularly at the beginning.

seems to have a similar setup going on from the first episode i've seen. carries a strange technology in a world revolving around that of airships.

After watching the first episode of Fractale, the first thing I thought of was X'amd Lost Memories/Nausicaa and how grand the story was to be. A kid enjoying everyday life suddenly taken out of that with the help of uncommon events. The music and art styles are very similar and give off a nice slice of life feel that's pretty relaxing.

The first five minutes of the very first episode of Xam'd gave me an overwhelming Nausicaa vibe, and the feeling really hasn't diminished with successive episodes. I guess the most obvious similarity is that both feature a heroine who flies a single-person light aircraft and grows things in jars and is tough yet deeply compassionate, to the point of defending or weeping over creatures others would think of as monsters. Also, there's lots of airships and goopy stuff and morally complex war stuff and a cute animal. Basically, if you like Nausicaa, be sure to check out Xam'd. If you like Xam'd  read more

these have VERY similar storylines, their is a masive enemy that threterns the exsistance of humans and their is 1 human who has the ability (like some others) to turn into one of the ''enemies'' and as the story progresses, some of his former friends turn against him and try to hill him where as others stay faithful. characters are also very similar, the main characters are hot headed and impulsive and they both have a female companion who is timid but remains on their side throughout. as i said, very similar and both ust as enjoyable as the other.

If you are looking for a mecha type Anime with great animation, characters, and narrative to boot! These two are definitely for you. If you like Bounen no Xamdou, you are bound to like Break Blade and it's following sequels. Make sure to check them out!

Both have a similar animation (same producers), the same atmosphere, complicated story, related genres

The world and character designs of Xam'd are all very Ghibliesque. Akiyuki may have been created drawing some inspiration from Ashitaka; each character is forced to accept his fate after absorbing a dangerous and ancient power into his forearm.

The main character's peaceful life is changed. He meets a group of people who are in a similar situation and decides to help them out.

These are both series that follow protagonists that do not fully understand their own existence. They have abilities that far surpass that of a normal human and are put in situations that test how much they value (or don't) humanity as a whole. Casshern Sins is much darker in tone and atmosphere, Xam'd is much lighter but no less serious. The animation and art direction in both is fantastic. Xam'd has detail that stands toe to toe with the best of Studio Gibli's films, and Casshern has a moody and expressionistic style that is not easily replicated. Both stand out for their strong visual identity.

similar in art, story progressions are different, same basis though - different planet, fantastical otherwordly abilities, mecha feel, slight romance but not mushy.

Both will leave you in a jaw-dropped, head-scratching frustrated (but awe-struck) state, by the end but only in NGE can you hope to find the answers to the ever-lingering questions

Both have a female and male MC. Both have some extra terrestrial like or antagonist to fight against. They both seem to have similar story telling in which all the details are revealed throughout the series instead of an info dump on the first episode. Really only difference so far is that in Bounen, instead of mechs, its Xam'd.

Both series revolve around a woman taking a boy under her wing and training him for the difficult task ahead of him which could threaten his life. Together, with the help of friends, they evade the capture of their enemies and make their way to ancient villages, leading them on a journey to save the world by depositing an "egg" of sorts at a promised place, as tradition calls for it. Each world bears a resemblance to Japan, but is sort of an alternate dimension, and the female warrior who cares for the boy is from a foreign land. Both series have excellent plots, moving dialogue,  read more

Both have some mystery and Xam'd also have something similar to alchemy.

They both have exactly the same feel to them, in my opinion. As soon as I started watching X'amd I thought of Gurren, probably because in both series the main cast is on a ship of some sorts and all characters have more personality to them than the standard side character does.

both are adventure stories with lots of reflection on what it means to be human

Wacky, Wild, Biopunk, futuristic, and mecha. Definitely similar.

Apocalyptical world and the hero getting power at the end of the episode (except that the protagonist GC looks to be less interesting).

Both of these are giving a similar feeling while watching. While ergo proxy has a more complex story, Xam'd has better fighting. Also the the plot in Xam'd gets wierder as you watch it, while in Ergo Proxy you have that feeling from the start. If you like this type of anime, this is something you must watch.

They are very similar. The character design and animation are similar, and both stories involve different groups taking advantage of one other to achieve some spiritual goal. In both stories, the chosen ones can use supernatural powers to save/destroy the planet, and in the end it's love and peace that win. In other words, they are stereotypically the same.

They both deal with school students thrown into a situation they are not prepared for. One is becoming a military individual, the other is a high school girl unprepared to be chased by rich guys.

While not explicitly similar in terms of plot and setting, if you enjoyed watching Bounen no Xamdou or Fuse: Teppou Musume no Torimonochou and want to watch something that has a similar essence, then you will likely enjoy the other. On a surface level, both were directed by Masayuki Miyaki; the art styles are very similar, and so is the music, as both titles had Micheru Oshima write the soundtrack. As for overarching themes, they both have motifs regarding connecting people with one another, visually represented through mail letters. Not only that, another prominent theme present is that all life is valuable whether it be  read more

-Both Original ONA's by BONES -Both have the same series composer according to MAL -Both have SCI-FI foreign matter or aliens that are connected to the main MC -Both have a secondary MC more familiar with these matter or Aliens Honestly they're almost the same show. However, I feel like Xam'd had a better cast of characters, better music (Although the OST for AICO is good), a more original looking Alien or matter, and in my opinion, a more pleasing aesthetic.

Both mains are exremely powerful and i see similarities in some characters personalities

both have similar main characters with special abilities that are feared by their friends but are eventually won over, similar art style (not so much the actual animation) both brilliant

Both are in similar fantasy worlds raging with wars. The main charactors are quite similar with hidden powers. The endings have the same emotional effect, which leaves you sad yet happy.

Both main characters have genetic transformation powers.

in linebarrels the main char gets hit by a giant mech which gives him powers n the ability to control it, while in xam'd the main char is involved in a explosion where a light goes into his arm n he transforms into a xam'd...both of them have some similarities as you get deeper into each...both of them are considered no longer human

In both of these series/movie you will have no idea whats going on......but its pretty
report Recommended by ucandoit
Though the similarities aren't so obvious, if you observe closely you 'll find them. Both series are based on the character development and the relations between them, having a melancholic atmosphere. In one hand we have "Contractors" in the other "Xamdous". Both are treated like "monsters". Finally there is a controversy about justice and humanity in both shows.

fantasy world, flying ships and weird meccha.. that what they both share..they have the same feeling to each other in some way or another..

Stylistically, both animation and story are similar. Both center around a youth who discovers that there is much more to the world than he thinks there is, and is thrust into the midst of a battle for the world, his friends, and himself.
report Recommended by Susan
I think they are both really similar due to the fact that both involve a war between aliens and mankind and the use of immensly advanced technology.

Similar Kind of story with romance, adventure and action.

If you are interested in the daily lives of an airship, then either anime is just for you! Both take on philosophical questions, both have drama, both have comedy and both show relationships and humanly struggles. Keeping an airship afloat is not as simple as you might have thought... before watching these two shows.

The feel is sorta the same as Xam'd. Needing to save the world, and being chosen. There's a difference in the society that they are placed, but both give the same feeling to you.

The infection in Blassreiter that allows them to fuse with bike and become bioweapons is similar to Xam`d.In Xam`d u will also see a biomecha(Human Forms) and a hunting force to hunt them just like the Blassreiter. The heroine initially joins the hunter team and then sides with hero!! :p

In both Baoh and Xam'd: Lost Memories, the main character is transformed into a superhuman monster by a shape-altering life form. Both anime's main protagonists utilize their superhuman talents to confront formidable evil opponents while struggling to retain their humanity. The main difference between the two is that Baoh is far more violent and far older than Xam'd: Lost Memories. If you like one, you might like the other as well.

420 - Big white avatars/robots, fighting together reluctantly brave heroes. Invasions, military, explosions, "alien" possession, and teenagers. Except Xam'd has the hero in complete sync with the avatar in some Steampunk reality, while Heroman has the hero working along side the avatar/robot in modern day California.

awesome fighting scenes and same anime style

Main character gets mysterious superpower against his will and is unable to control it at first. He is "adopted" into a family/crew where he is taught to control his powers. I might delete this recommendation once Towa no Quon derails from that premise, but the first movie reminded me strongly of Xam´d.
