Hi! My name is Susan. I'm 24 years old (Viva 1985!), I have dark brown, punkish shoulder-length hair and grey eyes which lurk behind a pair of nifty glasses with multiple personality disorder. I stand at about 5'11" or 180 cm tall and I have a robust, curvaceous body-type that I am proud of! Currently I'm a university student studying Creative Writing, English Literature and Japanese, but my true occupation is...
EVIL INCARNATE
MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
*cough cough*
Anyways, I enjoy anime and occasionally manga. I also LOVE a lot of music from Japan, and I'm an Asian drama addict! I've been watching dramas for about 5 years now, ever since I discovered SARS' subs of Gokusen season 1 on AnimeSuki. Matsumoto Jun, though I have long gotten over him, is a gateway drug for drama addicts! Time combined with obsessiveness (a dangerous combination indeed), has contributed to my massive (and still growing) drama list. But hey, at least its better than being addicted to booze and drugs, right?
But my true passions (besides Asian dramas) are offbeat American comic books and prose fiction (novels & short stories in a variety of genres). I hope to write both someday, as well as film and television, as my profession!
When it comes to my preferred genres I like to say that mystery and horror both top my list, but when it comes to dramas that's not usually the case. I have seen many more romance and comedies than anything else! I'm fairly open, I think, and it's more a matter of what I won't watch, because that's a much shorter list.
Still, I can't resist a really good mystery or something really frightening. I have the most fun when I'm watching stuff like that!

Fear me, foul mortal! Bow before my greatness! Also, I am made of awesome. XD
I just gotta pimp Kamen Rider Blade. It was awesome!
And now I have preserved one of the most hilarious moments in Asian drama history as an animation! Nobuta wo Produce:
GO WATCH IT!
Definitely hook me up with some of the songs you listen to (YouTube/NicoNico/etc.) I'm always looking for new artists because I get sick of music really quickly.. it goes in phases. The only way to recover from getting bored with some songs is to not listen to them for a lonnnng time. ><
I'll go ahead and check out JIN and Samurai High School also. But I think I'll stop here for now. I've filled up my HD. And, I've got enough series to last me months. xD
Music? - Eh, see, I was just thinking about this a minute ago before I decided to come on to MAL. ^^
It struck me as I was rating a song in iTunes. It's clear to me that I don't like singers, or groups, or anything of that sort. I like individual songs. Hardcore fans would certainly look down on me for that kind of thing. "How can you only like a song!!? Argh!" But, that's the way it is.
So, to try and answer your question.. I've found that a lot of T.M. Revolution's songs are to my liking. Especially the ones used for the Gundam Seed soundtrack (I love Gundam Seed.. and that's one the reasons why. :D) Also, I like a handful of songs by Gackt, Rip Slyme, melody, Bump of Chicken, Kotani Kinya, See-Saw, High and Mighty Color (the older group, not the one with the new singer.. even though I do like a few songs by them too, but..), Utada, Ayumi Hamasaki, Otsuka Ai (totally love her.. :D), Kalafina, and a few others.
Ohitorisama (Koike Teppei, yay!) is -definitely- a promising series. I'm very excited to see more of it. I'm also looking forward to watching Untouchable (Nakama Yukie, yay!), and Tokyo Dogs (Oguri Shun, and Mizushima Hiro, yay!). <- Can you see how I pick which series to watch? :D
Around 40, At Home Dad, and Hotaru no Hikari, check! I'll definitely watch these. (Again, I looooove recommendations. They're what I go off of usually because I'm not brave enough to watch something I've never heard of with no one I've ever seen before.. I guess).
> But have you tried imitating other dialects?
No, but, I haven't really imitated much speech thus far. Usually I'll be listening to a podcast or something (talk-show?) and just imitate the male speaker. Who.. is clearly native of Tokyo or has lived there a very long time. My ear is sharp enough now that I can pick up on subtle differences between dialects.. One that's really easy to pick up on is anything from the Kansai region. And, within that, I can distinguish between Kyoto and Osaka's dialects. One of my Japanese friends that I met looong ago gave me a run for my money by not holding back at all in her Japanese and using her dialect to its fullest (she's from Nara). Let me tell you.. when you're first starting out, that's surprising.
But, since then I've gotten really used to it, so, it's pretty easy to understand her now. Luckily the human mind is super flexible and as long as you're open to exceptions, you can easily learn these things..
I actually won't imitate other dialect, but I will listen to them a lot. The reason is, if I imitate too many dialects, I'll end up mixing the intonation too much, and it'll definitely sound like a foreign accent in that it won't sound like any native Japanese dialect.. So, I'm just opting for the Tokyo dialect. But, if I were to develop another dialect after that, I'd definitely go for Kansai because of my friend. :)
I just finished Dragon Zakura today. And, start Ohitorisama the other day. I really can't wait until Yukan Club is finished downloading (because I -love- Akinishi Jin). Ahh, so much I want to see and learn from. :D
Dramas are so overwhelming to learn the dialog from because I'm the kind that wants to learn every last thing, but to do that with all the shows I like would be.. crazy. Though, since there would be a lot of overlap, I guess it'd speed up pretty quickly after one or two, and then I can just focus on imitating the way people speak. :O
For now, though, I want to finish learning the lyrics to my favorite songs. ^^ That'll be a good start.
Haha, it's little now. Just wait for me to get five years worth and we'll see where it gets. :)
I'll definitely check out CHANGE. I always take on recommendations and make them #1 priority because I find that people's recommendations for these things lead me in the right direction. :)
.. Eh, not quite. Unless you consider reading from the dictionary, learning every lyric to TM Revolution songs, browsing for Kanji Kentei related sites, and saving Drama-Note articles to your hard drive a life.. :D (I should screen shot my web browser sometime.. I've had upwards of 40-50 tabs open, all dictionary entries.. And that's not just sometimes.. that's all the time). ^^
> I have been an addict, I mean really and truly an addict, of Japanese dramas for 5 years (I only started watching Korean dramas last year, and have only completed 10 or 11). But my drama list isn't as impressive as it seems... well, only a little bit less impressive, as I list specials (one episode tv movie types) on their own.
Only five years? Heh.. if I had been watching them for that long I'd definitely have taken action and gone head first into Japanese. I can't stand sub titles.. misinterpreted and distracting.. But yeah.. I imagine you've got quite the listen ability having heard that much Japanese. :D
> As for the movies, believe it or not I started out watching flicks from Hong Kong, and it wasn't until I started watching jdramas that I branched out to Japanese films too.
Any recommendations of Japanese films? ;)
> So maybe you can understand why I started seriously studying Japanese?
Lol.. yeah. I understand what it's like to be obsessed. :D
> You should totally make a list on your profile!
Will do. :)
> There are now two sites (well, technically 3) with which you can maintain a drama list, not unlike MAL
I'm not so into the list things with MAL.. because I kind of just stopped watching anime. Dramas are much more entertaining and educational anyways (body language, mouth movement, and I can identify with real people better. All of which are important for learning Japanese).
And.. I kind of want to keep everything local. So, I'll definitely make a text list. It's not long anyways (serious just a handful of series..)
> I had to confer with the other staff at ADA, but looks like it's a go! We'd love to be affiliates with you ....
Awesome!
> and steal your members.
Not awesome. D:
> It's up to you whether or not you have a text link or an image link on our club description.
Your list of dramas and films is really.. really impressive. I'm surprised at how much you've completed. I mean, I'm starting to get a little collection of them myself, but, it's like a grain of sand on the beach compared to you.
Then again, I only watch Japanese dramas.. so I guess I'm a bit more limited in my selection than you, but.. still. I'm especially impressed by the amount of films you've watched. I don't think I've even seen that many movies in my life.. in any language. x)
I think I might copy you, and make a list of my own. I have wanted a way of keeping track of all the ones that I watch.. and the anime list only works with anime. x)
Also! - You're an Admin over at the Asian Drama Addicts, right? Would you be interested in exchanging links with the Japanese club? (Just placing a picture-link or text-link, like affiliates). What do you say? :)
