With things such as story out of the way, Higurashi cranks up the fanservice with Kira, a new OVA series to commemorate the series' 10th anniversary, featuring nail-biting situations such as Rika and Satoko becoming magical girls to battle evil magic crime syndicates with the help of their trusty squad of cheerleaders, among other things.

The excitement may be too much to handle. Do you dare step inside the... "different" world of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kira?

Short preface...

Phew... Phew... I'd prefere to swear for the whole review, but readers probably expecting something different. So let's go to the main dish.

What is the main dish? Bloody steak. The secret, however, lies in the way of preparing. First, we wait some time, ten years for example. Meat should be stale and rotten. Next we have to coat meat with chocolate, sugar and other sweets. The dish ready for serving! It's called Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kira

As of the first episode of Kira, it's absolutely terrible. I knew from the trailer that it was going to be bad but the whole thing turns out just to be an extended eroge sequence involving each of the main girls in turn.

DEEN have an opportunity to make an OVA for Higurashi, one of my favourite series, and they make this... this... abomination. Maybe the three episode arc will be vaguely less disgusting but going off this first episode I don't even know why I should bother continuing to watch it.

Rei had a similar thing with a silliness fun episode at the start but the read more

This is likely the only review I will every write on this site, and it's going to be a fairly brief one. The reason for this is that people give this show way too much hate.

First of all, anyone that watches Higurashi for the gore will not particularly like this OVA. But then again, Higurashi is in no way about the gore; it's about the characters and what they go through. And this fact is exactly why I am giving this an 9/10. Over the course of the series, we have all seen just how much suffering the characters have gone through. Don't you read more

Ok, so the Commemoration of the infamous Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni's 10th Anniversary, DEEN gives us a Comedy and at the moment, It is rated...ok.
On the Other hand. Type Moon is making a 10th Aniversary anime for the horror anime/LN Tsukihime and the Action Anime/LN Fate Stay Night. AND IT IS ALSO A COMEDY.

Talk about Double Standards people. People Slam Higurashi kira for not being serious. Carnival Phantasm is just as Serious as Kira. Get over it. For the 10th Anniversaries of Studios and Famous Serious anime the Animation Companies decided to do something Lighthearted.

So Why the Hate all on Kira? It is read more

Anime: Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu
Full Metal Panic? was less serious than the Higurashi series but it did have it's suspenseful moments. Both of these series are mostly humor with fan-service... and a tiny bit of plot thrown in for spice.

Anime: Carnival Phantasm
Both anime are considered comedies based off a serious series celebrating a milestone.

Both series features characters from their respective works and are a funny watch that brings out hilarious comedy to the viewers.

Anime: Highschool of the Dead: Drifters of the Dead
To me both "High School of the Dead: Drifters of the Dead" and "Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Kira" are a bunch of what if's to the whole story far from their original intention. Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Kira, however is a type of OVA w/ multiple short stories, while HOTD Drifters of the Dead only focuses on one story. One similarity between the two is the use of fan service, however HOTD Drifters of the Dead does obviously contain a much more mature type of this fan service.

Anime: Nurse Witch Komugi-chan Magikarte
Both series deviate from more serious parent stories to produce self-parodies (and parodies of other things).

Both series also feature magical girls and fanservice.

Anime: School Days: Magical Heart Kokoro-chan
This is mostly for the second episode of Higurashi: Kira -- but if you like this one magical girl AU spinoff OVA of a gory and violent anime, perhaps you will like this other one.
