the light novels?
check the r/oregairu subreddit out. they've got fully translated stuff for every vol 1-14.

Hi there!

I'd definitely recommend reading the manga for :re even if there's a bit of negativity surrounding :re. The anime skips over a lot of plot points, characterization & dialogue. (It crams about 100 chapters into 12 episodes which is way too much imo).

The negativity mainly comes from the last arc which has a quality decline in certain parts. The arc had some weaker chapters and was a bit rushed because the author was burnt out from writing and drawing, which made him decide to end the series on his own terms.

Also, if you haven't read the original Tokyo Ghoul i'd advise you to start there. There's a lot of stuff you won't understand in :re if you haven't read the original manga.

OMK, read it all over agains since it´s not that much.

For Berserk, promised neverland and vagabond, you´ll have to search for wikias and read the previous arcs resumes.

I already told you how I rank Vinland saga arcs. but well, to make it short, Arc 1 and 2 on the same level. arc 3 then. Now we are in arc 4, wich I cant rannk because it started some nths ago.

chapters? depends. At the beginning there are like 50 pages per chapter, but it eventually turns into 20. manga should be counted by volumes, not by pages per chapter. To be honest, volumes can also be a cheating indicator. 3 Gantz volumes are read in less time than 1 Liar game volume.

About Vinland saga. Yes, those episodes (11-16 ) felt 1/2 of the time like vikings doing vikings things, but it´s the quiet before the storm. And it provides some useful information for future episodes. How will it change? Well, Thorfinn doesn´t need a sword anymore. You´ll have to see the rest by yourself.

- Perfect blue, not sure. It´s a masterly crafted dementia flip, and some people find those stories creepy, uneasy and sometimes offensive, but that shouldn´t bother you.

- There are a couple of things I don´t like about TPN in it´s latest arc. Read the manga.

- the best manga that suits your taste ? Maybe Mousou telepathy, a romcom that is as fun as Tomo-chan, but with a calmer (yet hornier) main couple instead of an energetic one. Oh, and it´s on hiatus (yes, that sucks!) Or try BM Nectar or Cafe of Eden wich I already recommended.

- I told you already why I dropped One piece, and yes, it´s worth reading a lot. I don´t care if the story eventually turned boring and those 60 volumes ended in my drop list, the manga was great for a long damn time.

About Monster. It´s really good, specially the first episodes (unpopular opinion, though). I think it could have been slightly shorter. BUT If you ever decide to read it or watch it, I recommend doing it non stop. You can take some breaks, but they shouldn´t be too long.

the story starts with nords killing each other like the retarded beasts they are according to Askeladd.

Then you have Thors, the only nord Askeladd actually respects. That´s because Thors is one of the few vikings who understood how massively retard was war. Askeladd knows that, and he keeps killing, but at least he´s self aware. If he can avoid sh*t, good for him. All he wants is to survive.

Going back to Thors, everything he wanted, after an exhausting life as a viking, was to settle up: find a pacific place to live with his family. And he wanted to teach this way of life to his son

So, what´s the first thing Thorfinn does after the event on episode 4? He turnes into a viking.
Now, keep in mind something: Vinland saga is the story about the first european illegal invas...I mean, the first european colonization in american land, and Thorfinn was the leader.

Can a madman like Thorfinn full of anger and desire for revenge become the founding father of Vinland ? How do you go from delivering death and pain in a war zone to an authentic desire of peace for your people?

The answer (one of them) is Askeladd. For the other one, you´ll have to wait for S2. so yes, you´ll have to keep watching it. Good luck.

Also, while I consider Ichi to be the one with the most horrific art, the most psychological one is Homunculus. And did I mention both are done by the same author? So yes, you can start by any of them if you are looking for those types of stories.

Battle Royale and Gantz are more for the spectacle and the survival tournament.
MichaelJackson Feb 13, 2020 4:53 PM
As I said before. Ichi the killer. Over the top dismembered bodies can always top the most horrific monsters from guys like Miura, Junji ito and Kazu Umezu in My list. Totally messed up.

Anyway, if by messed up you prefer monsters (with Miura being the ambassador of hell on Earth, absolutly dantesque) , go for Junji ito. He has Hellstar remina (wich is a short 1 volume futuristic survival about a planet that eats planets) and Uzumaki wich is also short.

Kazuo Umezu has also a manga called drifting classroom, about a classroom that teleports to a post apocaliptic wasteland and everyone turns paranoic. Its "the promised neverland" from the 70s. And its really fast paced. Some twists dont make sense, but you are there for the absolut madness.
MichaelJackson Feb 13, 2020 3:19 PM
Mieruko chan has scary monsters, and the designs are morbid, but I dont find the situtations that scary but more akward, like im not sure if Im suppose to laugh or feel bad for the girl. But its good enough to keep me reading it

lso, While I dislike most of Jojos(yeah, also never cared about the stories and characters) , Ive got to admit Jojos poses are fun and at least its creative with its use of superpowers. Actually, hunter x hunter borrowed some stuff from it when it comes to strategy in fighting, wich is what made battles fun and not the Nen system.

But yes, the rest of the anime is meh, the fanbase can be retarded, but at least they are not pretentious.

Convincing them? Hehe.. dude., I remember when I was in my teen years and I wanted to convince strangers and friends that my taste for music was superior (I still think it, I just dont say it, lol)

You just dont convince them and instead dont talk about Jojos and attack on titan with them. Simple. My brother hates SnK. We talk about other stuff instead. Actually, I dont usually talk about anime with friends or random people and you dont see me pushing on the matter. Did I try to convince you to keep reading OMK and watch LoGH after I told you once they were great and you were like "man, this is boring"? I dont do it with strangers in MAL, dont expect me to do it in real life. Yeah, Its harsh, and straightforward, but I think thats the truth.

Now, returning to manga
I was also going to recommend I am a hero. It has one of the most realistic characters I have ever seen in manga, and not only because of the designs. The las arc drags a bit and the last fight is abrupt, but the rest is great. The author has another manga called ressentiment wich is like I am a hero, but artificial intelligence instead of zombies, and its basically everything SAO didnt do. Not that I dislike SAO, but you know what I mean. Cheers!!

Now, that´s a really fun question. I can think about 4 manga that are more disturbing than berserk. Im gonna get long into this one. Consider them a recommendation. All of them are fast paced. Pick one if you ever feel interested.

4. Gantz. ok, this one is for some people not as disturbing as Berserk, but the the level of violence and its survival madness is simply massive. it´s like watching a Hollywood movie without any filters and boundaries, or a Goldy Pound arc for adults with an iron stomach. The psychological aspect is not as strong as the upcoming recommendations, but Gantz creativity for missions and settings can´t be matched if you compared it to other survivals and violent manga in general. I has a really good anime adaptation, but the visuals are a bit inferior and goes downhill during its last arc in second season, wich is fortunately just a short filler. Still worth it. The manga is 37 volumes long, but the pacing is so damn fast it feels like 20 or even less.

3. Homunculus: Ok, this has a couple of violent moments that can´t definitely match Berserk ones, but they are really intimate. The thing is, this manga is about some guy who get his forehead drilled to gain some sort of 6th sense that allows him to translate people´s fears into images called homunculus. This is just the fun part. The psychological side comes later when you eventually get into the MC´s own reflections about his fears. I binged-read that manga in 3 days, and the way the MC´s life and reasons for his own insanity is progressively revealed left me depressed after reading its final chapter. But I personally found it amazing. Some people don´t think that high of this manga, and I can understand why, but for me, It´s a really touching story in its own twisted way. It´s also a great recommendation if you liked Joker.

2. Battle Royale: The thing with Berserk is that you could easily see an hord of demons getting smashed by Guts and being amazed by how over-the-top is Gutz strength and how intimidating is the world he lives in. Battle Royale focuses on 1 death at the time and every death is DEFINITLY more disturbing than every Berserk moment. You get really deep into flashbacks (the best use of flashback I ever seen in any media) and every kill is so detailed and morbid, but at the same time you just can´t get your eyes out of them. Even the poses characters make when getting killed are bizarre (jojos poses can´t compete). Every kill panel should be hanged in an art gallery. Word. The psychological side is also great, it makes you follow cautiously every step characters make. it´s feels as immersive as the best simulator in Disney world since it makes you feel like you are stucked in the island with the rest of the cast. It also left me depressed by the end of the manga. I binged this one in 2 days, but believe me, I could have done it in one. The score in MAL, in my opinion, doesn´t make it justice.

1. Ichi the killer: When reading stuff like Gantz, Battle Royale and Berserk, you just can´t keep your eyes from how violent they are. But oh god! Ichi the killer is a manga that you will only want to read once. The violence is not only unsane, but it will make you grit your teeths and try not to imagine how awfull would be if the pain was inflicted to you. And for real, the author couldn´t choose more painful places in human body to twist its imagination and get snuff-tear violent with each chapter. The psychological side is also really well done, the MC is manipulated to transform into a killing machine… that cries while slicing his enemies and spreading guts and filth. It has a prequel that I also recommend but it´s about delinquents and not yakuzas.

TLDR: Yes, Ichi the Killer is the king of gore manga.

Nope, but TPN is still great. Mieruko chan is ok so far. Will read more of it.
