Mato Seihei no Slave

As his school days draw to an end, Yuuki Wakura worries about his future. While lamenting the prospect of living an ordinary life, he is suddenly drawn into the world of Mato: an alternate dimension filled with dangerous monsters called Shuuki. Over the years since the existence of Mato was first confirmed, incidents of people accidentally wandering into the other world have become commonplace. To combat the threat of the Shuuki and rescue victims like Yuuki, the all-female Demon Defense Force was established. Its members have been blessed with the power of "Peaches"—Mato fruits that grant supernatural abilities only to women.

Though Yuuki's situation is dire, he is saved in the nick of time by Kyouka Uzen, the chief of the Demon Defense Force's seventh unit. Despite Kyouka's impeccable skills in battle, she has long been held back by her Peach-granted ability, Slave. Slave allows Kyouka to put a living being under her control and draw out its strength, but the Shuuki that she had enslaved until now had all proven to be exceedingly weak.

When Yuuki and Kyouka become surrounded by a horde of Shuuki, Kyouka resorts to something she has never tried before: using her ability on a man. To her surprise, Yuuki's slave form is much more powerful than she could have imagined. Believing the young man to be the key to unlocking her true potential, Kyouka invites Yuuki to join the Demon Defense Force—but not as a regular member.

Now listen, As a manga reader I understand why the anime to some was a disappointment. But when you look at it as an adaptation with the goal to get the series more popular, I think it did just fine. Now when it comes to CGI, and cutting out some scenes I agree that was one of the worst parts about the adaptation, but at the same time not too much was cut out to where I would call the anime unwatchable, nor was the animation so bad that I would give this anime a low rating in the first place.Overall the story was still ... just as good as I remembered it being from the manga, the fanservice scenes were still done justice, yuki as a main character is still just as heroic and cute while being badass just as he was like in the manga, and overall I think this adaptation gets a lot of flack when it just isn't deserved. Again I get it, CGI in anime when it isn't done well looks like shit but I feel as if the CGI in this show while not being the best, wasn't just plain unwatchable it was just mid tbh. Overall if your new to the series I recommend watching the anime and then switching to the manga if you don't trust studio passion since they will be handling season 2. Or just straight up read the manga if that's what you want to do.Overall I'd give this anime a 7/10

Mixed Feelings

This is the classic anime with lots of fanservice but done right, for once. I'm rating it as what it is, an ecchi, not as a regular anime, and that's why I gave it such a high note.

The characters are your classic vanilla characters of any harem anime, you have a bunch of eres, and an idiot main protagonists that, someway somehow, it ends up making them fall for him even if he doesn't notice a thing. The plot is simple but fine, nothing out of the ordinary, and pretty predictable...

So... Why an 8? Well... After watching a lot of this kind of shows ... and getting really disapointed, even if I didn't expected that much, this one, someway hitted the spot that I wanted to watch more, which is really weird on this kind of anime. The fights were nice, the plot, even if it's simple and predictable, it made sense, the characters, even if they're boring, they have some kind of personality and overall I liked them. Am I overrating the show? Yes, by a long shot, and I think the rate that it has on myanimelist, is the right one, tbf, but I feel it should be a bit higher and, therefore, I gave it an 8. You can hate me, don't care xD.

Why mixed feelings? Well... It's the king of anime, more than anything else, but If you decided to watch it, you know what you're in for.

I am a big fan of the ecchi genre. If there’s something this beautiful genre has shown me, it’s that it can compete with any other genre and shine with its great stories. That’s why I’m very demanding with it.

Chained Soldier started very ambitiously. An ecchi anime with a deep story and mysteries to unravel. What could go wrong?

The problem wasn’t the story or the fan service. The problem was the harem. Without a doubt, one of the worst I’ve seen in my life.

How can a harem go wrong? Let me explain:

There are two types of harems. The most common is where the girls fall ... in love with the guy because he is chivalrous, has good feelings, and pays attention to them. The guy is usually a pathetic type with luck who never concretizes anything with any girl out of shame (the dream come true for insecure guys). Most harems are like this.

In the second type, we have a guy who is still chivalrous but has no problem concretizing encounters with the girls. The girls fall in love with him for his prowess and power.

Chained Soldier, apparently, is of the second type. However, something fails: there is no reason for the girls to fall in love with him. It’s not that the protagonist isn’t a good guy. The problem is that the girls fall in love BEFORE he can prove that he is. It just happens. And it’s not a light infatuation. These girls already want to marry him almost immediately.

This incoherent plot development, which seems like a mockery to the viewer, becomes the main development of the story, leaving the plot in third place (the second place goes to the fights), so one can’t help but feel that they are watching an anime that is really a waste.

Now, not everything is disastrous. The mystery behind the plot is quite good. However, the best part is the fights. The battles between the girls, or between the girls and the monsters, are truly epic. There is not only violence but also strategy, reflections, and a lot of action.

In conclusion, Chained Soldier could have been better, but they wasted everything with such a fake and boring harem that the anime ends up being second-rate. When I watched the anime, I thought, “Why make this a harem? It could have been a great story with strong fan service and it would have been perfect.”

THE GOOD: The fights. They are incredible.
THE BAD: The terrible development of the harem and its weight in the plot.
LET’S HOPE it improves in the second season now that apparently the harem is complete.
