Hey whoever is reading this ^-^!
Rating system! (WIP FOR UPDATED SYSTEM)
(my anilist is linked but its not updated as much as my MAL and as well I took a large break from anime but I'm back and hopefully will not get as burnt out nowadays!)
(PFP is Asuka from Tokyo Xanadu eX+)
My thoughts about Steins;Gate (anime focused, not VN)
In my honest opinion Steins;Gate is filled with a messy plot that feels like its missing so many key plot points to count combined with a super bland combined with a poorly written story to follow suit, weak/repetitive dialogue, blandish setting to be honest, a massive amount of easily predictable melodramatic scenes that got tiresome very quickly (goes back to the writing point), but to be fair it had a decently strong OST but nothing to be awestruck about. Still, I don't understand how this is so highly rated consistently and called a masterpiece through and through, it feels so uninspired and abysmal through the entire show and I couldn't help but feel it was insanely boring (especially through the first 3/4 of the show). People kept recommending it to me and so I took the chance since they said it gets good after "X" episode and it just never happened, I don't know about the VN version of Steins;Gate but I hope it did more justice than this. If you disagree with me I implore you to rewatch this show and if you still feel it's as good as you remember I'd happily have a discussion about it to change my mind/maybe I just am missing something that made this show as good as it was, but as it stands with me, it was one of the most overhyped disappointments I've seen in a while which is quite a shame as I was looking forward to it.
I didn't hate this show even though it seems like it, I definitely grew to the characters besides the heavy tropes and overall they were the strongest point of the show easily (even with the horrid writing that was present, they grew on me with each of their unique charms), the voice actors/actresses also did a fabulous job all the way around, with that being said the last 5 or so episodes were quite enjoyable to say the least and finally very emotional/grabbed my attention which is what I was waiting for, but besides that, everything else was quite lackluster.
But maybe I'll say this, it probably was quite good for its time don't get me wrong there but I feel like it almost had a Lucky Star Syndrome where if you didn't watch during that timeframe of release it doesn't strike the same in today's time but that might just be a hot take overall but that's how I felt Steins;Gate was as a whole.
Outdated and Overhyped.
But feel free to try and change my mind because I truly do want to like it and I'm pretty open to others opinions/ideas :D
I love Nisioisin's works, I'm so glad I discovered Zaregoto because no one seems to talk about it, so I appreciate that there's someone else out there who likes the show! I especially love the richness of character interaction and dialog. Eventually I want to read the Zaregoto and Monogatari novels!
Thank you so much for the kind words, really appreciate it, and I'm glad you enjoy reading my reviews. The Monogatari series will always be a special series for me, actually watched it just a few months ago!
