I'm part of those who watched Kan weekly and binged Zoku, and now I'm considering the matter that the prom planning arc was just as tedious as when Hachiman's helping Iroha with the student council stuff, so maybe it mattered. I mean, we'll never know but at least we do know that they're both great seasons!

As for your question, I would say that my answer's the same as yours. It's actually hard because I like both couples so much, but I think what gave YukiHachi the upper hand for me was that they have better characterization. Not just Yukinon and Hachiman, all Oregairu characters have some kind of human depth to their character. On the contrary, there's not much to explore about Shirogane and Kaguya. We know that Shirogane is the club president, Kaguya is the vice, they both liked each other, and I think that's enough.

Another thing is that HachiYuki had better relationship progressions. Hachiman and Yukinon started being annoyed at each other, then gradually becomes fond of one another as they both share a unique take on life. Wherein, with ShiroKagu, we are already opened up to the topic that they both have feelings for each other and that they should make the other confess first which is what's happening for over three seasons. HachiYuki on the contrary, had major developments and something changes with their relationship after every episode.

Now that I think about it, I'm now feeling a little bitter that Kaguya-sama's getting so much attention because of the dual confession arc. I mean it's not bad, I do feel proud about it but I wished Kan also got this much recognition because for me, the Oregairu Finale had the greater payoff. Also, Hachiman's confession is the best anime confession ever! The Ultra Romantic campaign was great, but the Oregairu bridge scene definitely did it better.

Thanks to our conversation the other day, I started rewatching most scenes from Kan and now I'm having a dilemma on which season's the best. I can't believe I actually forgot how goddamn great Kan was, just because I find the prom planning arc too long.

I also, at some point, felt that Kan is the best installment of the series. I agree with everything you've mentioned. Zoku was consistently good throughout the entire series, it had its highs but clearly not Kan high. Kan had so much great moments that any of those can easily be one of my favorite anime moments. It's actually still fresh in my memory. The Hachiman-Komachi interaction from the pilot episode and the Hiratsuka-sensei send off from the finale, both made me cry unconsciously. Yui's crying scenes also made me felt like crying with her. And of course, the Yukino confession from EP11 was by far the most satisfying moment I've seen in all of fiction.

I still think that Zoku is the better season but yeah, it can go either way as they both have their own strengths and I just preferred Zoku's consistency more. Kan for me had hit or miss episodes, but when it hits, it definitely was peak!

I guess those stans really can stand the repetitive humor. That's one of the biggest weakness of the show. The first episodes will mold their brain into entertainment so in the last few episodes, they will think it's good. The show can't handle serious romance and drama, that's why it felt forced and didn't made sense. I'm sure most of them watched the show were didn't watch romcoms at all.

It's the same thing in School Rumble (the first ridonkeylous anime before Kaguya and the aka said it was heavily inspired from it) but School Rumble maintained the comedy aspect until the end. It didn't try to be serious in romance and drama.
