Welcome!

Welcome!

Self-introduction:
My nickname's Aomsin. I'm from Thailand, so pardon me if my English is not up to par.

I was never really an anime fan growing up, only having watched a few episodes of Pokémon and Detective Conan. In fact, I used to hold a strong prejudice towards anime due to awful experiences of having to deal with a literal chūnibyō classmate in high school. However, after a friend in university nagged me to gave Violet Evergarden a watch last year, I became hooked to the medium ever since.

Currently, I mainly watch slice-of-life, romance/rom-com, and drama anime but will occasionally explore other genres. I also write short reviews/thoughts on most of the series, movies, and manga on my lists in the Notes section (under each entry name), so feel free to check them out (to see the section, use MAL on PC or hit 'Request Desktop Site' at the bottom of the list page if you're on mobile).

I also have a AniList account to document the manga I've read that are not on MAL (they're mostly one-shots though): https://anilist.co/user/ChaosTheory12/mangalist

Scoring:
I rate my entries according to MAL's score description (e.g. 10 = masterpiece, 7 = good, 4 = bad, etc.) with one change: 5 = passable instead of the usual "average".

For scores 1 to 8, there will also be .3, .5, and .8 subscores (these are in the Tags section of MAL desktop website). For instance, 7/10 will range from 7.0/10 (flat 7), 7.3/10 (low 7), 7.5/10 (mid 7), to 7.8/10 (high 7). For 9 score, the range goes from 9.1 to 9.4. A score of 9.5 and above will be rounded as a 10.

My criteria for scoring: (please note that my criteria is not completely rigid and can shift according to the content of that anime):
1. Personal enjoyment (most important)
2. Characters (second-most important)
3. Plot and pacing (third-most important)
4. Thematic execution (really depends on the anime)
5. Production (visuals, cinematography, music, sound design, voice acting, etc.; this also really depends on the anime and the studio).

I also try to compartmentalize each rated entry according to what type of anime it is (i.e. series, movie, OVA, etc.) For instance, a movie is rated in comparison with other movies in my list. So, a 7/10 movie would not be equivalent to a 7/10 series. There are exceptions and nuances, such as franchises/IPs with multiple types (e.g. Planetarian series adaptation and movie adaptation featuring the same overall plotline) or IPs with more than one installment.
