Synopsis

Kusunoki used to believe he was destined for great things. Ostracized as a child, he held on to a belief that a good life was waiting for him in the years ahead. Now approaching the age of twenty, he's a completely mediocre college student with no motivation, no dreams, and no money. After learning he can sell his remaining years—and just how little they're worth—he chooses to divest himself of all but his last three months. Has Kusunoki truly destroyed his last chance to find happiness...or has he somehow found it?

*SPOILER WARNING*

Am I a fool? I never knew what that word really meant. I still don’t. I spew out the word ad nauseum as a generic insult, never thinking too deeply about what I really mean. But what does that mean? Three Days of Happiness seeks the answer to that question. Does it mean to be dumb? Does it mean to be unsuccessful? Is it really just that: a generic insult? Certainly not. A person is not innately a "fool." While the word is too broad to assign an inclusive definition to, I can think of an interpretation: one who creates his own hell. ...

So they finally added this to the website.

This book is incredibly painful, for all of the right reasons.

It is relatable in a cathartic and fire-starting way. The reader - typically a young man - will inevitably project all of their failings onto Kusunoki. In my case, Three Days of Happiness spurred me to take my own life a little more seriously.

That being said, it is also incredibly beautiful. Brilliantly written, it generates powerful images at every critical point of the novel. The author, Sugaru Miaki, manages to catch you completely off guard on a number of occasions. Especially in the final third of the book, ...

I've encountered numerous stories about an MC who is a hopeless shell of their former selves. Much of those stories had an irresistibly sweet girl turn them back into a hopeful person again. So, was this novel also only about a meeting of two soulmates?

For me, it was much more than that. It was an incredibly compelling tale, especially for those readers who've wished to sell their own life span at some point in their lives. It gracefully describes loneliness in it's rawest form and how people, when free from the shackles of life, start craving for those chains around their soul once again and ...
