Synopsis

Smart, refined, and strikingly gorgeous, half-Russian half-Japanese Alisa Mikhailovna Kujou is considered the idol of her school. With her long silver hair, mesmerizing blue eyes, and exceptionally fair skin, she has captured the hearts of countless male students while being highly admired by all others. Even so, due to her seemingly unapproachable persona, everyone remains wary around the near-flawless girl.

One of the few exceptions is Alisa's benchmate Masachika Kuze, a relatively average boy who spends his days watching anime and playing gacha games. Despite his nonchalant demeanor, Masachika is the sole student to receive Alisa's attention. Unable to be fully honest, Alisa is frequently harsh on Masachika and only expresses her affection in Russian. Unbeknownst to her, however, Masachika actually understands the language yet simply pretends otherwise for his own amusement.

As the odd pair continues to exchange witty and playful remarks, their relationship gradually grows more romantic and delightful—and Alisa might finally learn to freely convey her true feelings.

Background

Tokidoki Bosotto Russia-go de Dereru Tonari no Alya-san began as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou from May 6, 2020. Kadokawa has released a revised and illustrated version of the series since February 27, 2021 under its Kadokawa Sneaker Bunko label.

The series has been published in English as Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian by Yen Press under the Yen On imprint since November 22, 2022.

In an Anime!Anime! 2021 reader survey titled "What light novel would you like to be animated?", the light novel placed first. The series ranked ninth on Kono Light Novel ga Sugoi!'s 2022 list in the light novel category.

To celebrate the release of the second volume, the light novel's female protagonist Alisa debuted as a virtual Youtuber on July 29, 2021, being the first official announcement of its kind in light novel history.

Just read the story already. It's the perfect LN for any of you who has a sweet tooth. The story has its own depth, the character is quite interesting with a mysterious back story that makes you curious about them. The heroine is a tsundere who only speaks her mind in Russian, but that is the main gimmick of the novel and I think that this works great. I am not good at writing reviews but for this masterpiece, I tried. If you want a good read that will make you smile for a day or two, just pick it up, I swear it will ...

This novel is not bad per say, if I was unfamiliar with japanese romcoms I’d even give this a 7, however Roshidere is just a reskin of a reskin of a reskin. Shitty tropes? Check. Garbage side characters? Check. Unoriginal? Check!

All you need to know before you read this is that you’re not getting anything new, if you like the standard japanese romcom then go and read it, however if you’re looking for an actual good novel, get off this website.
I will admit the authors writing is pretty good, however the plot is just not noteworthy, characters are bland and uninteresting, I’d even rate ...

There are many book series about people meeting from different cultures, and for good reason. People who grow up in different environments behave differently and have differing ideas of what's normal. Even in light novels, this idea is explored when people move from the countryside to the city, or even between schools. So you would think this series, with a main character who theoretically spent half her life abroad in Russia, would touch on those aspects as well. Alya should have different cultural attitudes and behaviors than a typical Japanese girl. Otherwise what's the point of her being Russian?

That's why I picked up this LN. ...
