New Movie of Fullmetal Alchemist Announced [Update Jul 5]

At the end of the final episode aired on TBS, an anime movie of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood was announced. The TV series has already animated the original manga up to the final chapter.

Updated on July 5th
Irie Yasuhiro posted in his twitter that he is not involved in the production of the new movie. He said the staff of the movie will be announced soon.

I enjoyed the first film. I thought it has a very interesting premise. However, this trailer looks real bad. Especially seeing those flying people. As someone from youtube put it, they look like guys you'll see in Pokemon.

I would be more forgiving if it's based on the 2003 series, but I need more information to fully judge.

Interesting how the logo used in the trailer is the one they used for the '03 anime and not the one for Brotherhood. Also, judging from the trailer, i'm guessing the movie will be one of the following:

1) A filler movie that ties into the first series

Or it could be...

2) A filler movie that ties into the second series

3) A filler movie that could tie in with either series

Either way i'm bummed that its not an adaption of the 2nd novel. If the first novel got 2 adaptations on top of it (an audio drama and 2 episodes in the first anime), why not the 2nd?!

Why the 2nd novel?

Along with that, I remember it being a very fun read overal.

Ah well, whatever we are getting I'll be watching regardless.

....it better be good.

Ed has his automail and probably can use alchemy so it's either some sidestory to the brotherhood series or has nothing to do with it and is actually more close to the old series (which also looks like it, because of the art style) or Shambala. Worst case is that it's a movie adaptation of one of the many FMA games, but since I haven't played any, I can't really tell.

Everyone and their mother knows its not arecap movie..

Its just not based upon any manga-based materials(likme epilogue chapter) and is most likely just a s bad as shamballa of nazi mechas or the first fma was.

Ed has his automail and probably can use alchemy so it's either some sidestory to the brotherhood series or has nothing to do with it and is actually more close to the old series (which also looks like it, because of the art style) or Shambala. Worst case is that it's a movie adaptation of one of the many FMA games, but since I haven't played any, I can't really tell.

I'm going to be really disapointed if it is a recap movie. Same goes for a flashback movie.

Why can't the writers and the animators come up with something new and original, and hopefully good!!!

I would be soo happy if they show Al's journey to the east or more precisely to Xing. Why? because I want to see Ling as an emperor! He's my favorite character hehe I'd be nice to see Ed and Winry with their kids as well XD

I'd be so disappointed if it's a recap D: or worse, a live-action movie.

It seems somewhat befitting, the OVA's of the original aren't really that much other than the short Humonculus vs. Alchemist one vs. Shamballa small OVA's.

FMA brotherhood was the best anime ive ever seen, it came full circle with underlying subplots and amazing characters ... it was beautiful! im excited for this movie, just for the sake of seeing what they could add.

The story was happens when they show those still pictures in the conclusion.

The Ishbal war or Pride for some reason goes evil again?

The worse is a recap, in my opinion.

I'm hoping a story based on Ed going to the west and Al to the east as well, I think that would be the best one. Remember as epic as all of these events are, they are only localised to one country, and its not the biggest of the countries by far !
