Warner Bros. Japan announced a new anime project for Buronson and Tetsuo Hara's Hokuto no Ken (Fist of the North Star) manga on Wednesday, revealing a teaser visual (pictured). The new anime, titled Hokuto no Ken: Fist of the North Star, is celebrating the manga's 40th anniversary.

Buronson and Hara serialized the action drama in Weekly Shounen Jump from 1983 to 1988 and compiled into 27 volumes. Shueisha later reprinted the series in 15 collector's edition volumes in 1991–1992 and 15 bunkoban volumes in 1997–1998. Hokuto no Ken has sold a cumulative 100 million copies of its volumes worldwide.

Toei Animation produced a television anime adaptation, which aired in 109 episodes from October 1984 to March 1987. A second season aired from March 1987 to February 1988, followed by a three-episode original video anime from July 2003 to May 2004.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in October 2020 and shipped the ninth volume on June 27, with the tenth volume planned for a September 26 release.

Coamix published the first two volumes of an 18-volume new edition on Wednesday. The third and fourth volume will go on sale on September 20, and subsequent volumes will be released on the 20th of each month.

Synopsis
In 199x, the world was engulfed in the blaze of nuclear war.

With the Ocean drying up and Earth torn asunder, all life seems to be lost but humans survived stubbornly. However, what dominated the post-apocalyptic world was sheer violence. The remaining humanity was split into two groups: those who kill and take whatever they can and those who are exploited.

When all hope seems lost for the weak, a man in ragged cloth appears. He is Kenshiro, the rightful successor of the Hokuto Shinken martial arts with seven studs-like scars in the shape of the Big Dipper. His journey to becoming a legendary savior begins! (Source: Warner Bros. Japan, edited)

@Oppai_Loli_God You mean how people dick ride everything from the 2000's? Full metal Alchemists is the greatest anime of all time than hxh 2011 drops and now that's the greatest series ever. Then the attack on titan fans. Fist of the North star influenced jojos bizarre adventure baki and several other series. It also made hundreds of millions of dollars in Japan alone. That is why it is getting a remaster.

Interesting. I hope Konishi will reprise Kenshiro's role.

I hope they don't use any animation they've already made as a basis for this new one, I hope they start everything from zero.

a timeless work, I hope it has good animation at least, without censorship.

@Fortress_Maximus Bikkurimen is a reboot of an old show that was an advertisement. https://myanimelist.net/anime/54914/Bikkurimen It also seems that the original Tokyo Mew Mew was the original meda franchise, with the manga running at the same time as the anime.

@RobertBobert wait, what anime original is getting a remake?

Sep 14, 2023 12:48 PM by Fortress_Maximus

@AddaeAkono Will Netflix pull the adaptation if they decide to do a complete reboot of the adaptation? Or do you think they will start releasing seasons?

Sep 14, 2023 8:12 AM by RobertBobert

@Hoppy Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if the Fist Of The North Star remake turns out to be an ONA on Netflix since Warner Bros. Japan is the same company that owns Bastard: Heavy Metal Fantasy and the JoJo series which are also on Netflix too.

@MovieDogg They've done several remakes of the original shows already. One of them will premiere next season.

@Lucifrost I don’t understand how they can think that everything from that period is low quality, but somehow everything nowadays is high quality. It is very much a spectrum of quality in all eras. I’ve noticed that the anime industry only remakes stuff if there’s a source material, as you don’t see them remaking the original Gundam no matter how many times western fans ask.
