This Year's Highly Anticipated Anime Among Anime Industry People

Oricon Biz conducted an inquiry about this year's anime titles with high expectations among the people in the anime industry. Questionnaires were collected from people working for anime magazines, music labels, TV companies, and anime journalism.

Top: The Vanishment of Haruhi Suzumiya
　The movie draws attentions of the editors of the anime magazines and the anime article writers. Oricon asserted its assured success.

Second: Durarara!!
　This title is uncommon as a light novel-based anime that it mainly targets at female audience. The manga adaptation serialized in Monthly G Fantasy will bring more fans.

Third: So・Ra・No・Wo・To
　The anime industry people who voted for this title wish its success rather than foresee it. Anime producers long for a great hit of an original work.

Shaft titles also collected good number of votes reflecting the enormous hit of Bakemonogatari.

Yeah, but since it's the vanishment, the title sort of makes you think Haruhi...won't be around o.O Ye, the trailer got me all over-excited too. My #1 anticipated.

anyway, I've been watching Durarara!, Sora no Woto and Dance in the Vampire Bund. They all look promising. I especially liked the vampire one >:]

It's pretty clear why Haruhi is the number one anticipated anime by industry insiders when you consider the fact that it is one of the easiest franchises to profit from with a minimum of effort. Imagine all of those otaku going to see the movie over and over and over out of their obsessive fandom and driving it to all time best seller status before you know it and one can see why industy types who have a stake in it wait in such anticipation.

Marketing....lots and lots of really gimmicky marketing that gets right up in your face until you are forced to acknowledge what is being marketed at you as the next big thing. Kadokawa Shoten had already built a pretty infamous reputation for it's marketing practices, but Haruhi more or less sealed it by essentially bringing about a golden age of custom tailored anime franchises and characters for otaku to worship and spend bankrupting amounts of money on in order to feel they belong and are up to date on the trends.

I think at the stage the Gundam Franchise is at it doesn't even have to be listed as anticipated by insiders, it's kind of just implied. This looks like one of those articles in a business rag that's meant to give investors an idea of newer stuff they might want to take note of.

I think Bakuman and Arakawa Under the Bridge are going to be a win. Arakawa espically cuz any seinen anime is an automatic win :3

Not surprised that ignorant anime tardfans are hating on something as (relatively) unique and hopefully refreshing as Sora no Woto itt. People who want to see the same old shit over and over and over might as well be dead. Lambs to the slaughter.

Seriously, anime fandom's clamoring obsession with the familiar, the boring, and the totally fucking insipid is beyond disgusting and depressing at this point. I'm glad there's still plenty of older stuff for me to watch and interesting things do still get made on occasion, like flowers sprouting up in a landfill, but popular anime has become such a cultural embarrassment. I'd like to think there are some animators out there who are sick of this pandering bullshit and want to do something worthwhile.

Anyway. Sora no Woto looks to me like it may be somewhat reminiscent of Haibane Renmei (which itself drew inspiration from Haruki Murakami's Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World), though not without its own themes and aesthetics—all well and good, but what I really anticipate this year is that thing Masaaki Yuasa is working on, Yojohan Shinwa Taikei. No idea what else. Arakawa Under the Bridge sounds interesting, maybe.

Vanishment is easily one of the best Haruhi novels, so I can see why it's so highly anticipated. Hell, the Haruhi name is enough to make it highly anticipated.

I'm pretty excited for Durarara, Sora no Woto and Bakuman too.

^ heh, i disagree but this is still understandable. Haruhi is the biggest bitch in all of anime. Sometimes I wonder if the series is like NGE, where you're supposed to hate the characters.

Black rock shooter: it's just another overhyped show, really. I don't think it will be that good, but oh well, it'll be a little above average I guess, nothing to hype about

I am disappointed to see Dance in the Vampire Bund that low :/ it really should be at least in top 3, because I mean...really Sora no Woto failed from what I've seen in the first episode, it won't be any good, if it doesn't make a 180° turn

Arakawa Under the Bridge is a SHAFT title, nothing to complain about, I'll watch it, dunno what to expect though.

as for Durarara!! well, the first episode wasn't bad, but I woudn't exactly put it that high on the anticipation list, little overhyped too. it'll be in the top 3 of winter season this year, but that's about it I guess
