It also helps to not live in the US.

It looks like it might get wider circulation at a later date and then of course a DVD. I hope there's a BD too.

Looks like I'll be buying more Haruhi DVDs this year.

As glad as I am that they are bringing it to the US they need to have something like Fathom Events show it as a one time deal in theaters across the nation. They have done this before with Bleach and Naruto movies.

I would go see it but as I am on the East Coast of the US the cam rip will just have to tide me over until we get better quality. (For a camrip it was actually watchable!)

I really don't expect it to be... it's only been about 10 weeks since the Japanese release, but I suppose they could have started before then. Honestly I wouldn't want to watch it dubbed, and I think that's true of the majority of the anime audience as well. Let's hope whoever planned this release knows that, too.

I assume these early showings will be subbed. Then, if (big IF) they go the Fathom Event route, it will be shown dubbed 1-night only nationwide. The DVD/eventual BD release will be dubbed. Although that can be easily changed with the press of a 'Audio' button on the DVD/BD remote. No sense in complaining about it.

Bandai and Bang Zoom managed to dub Kurokami and keep it at its "near simultaneous" TV airing with Japan and South Korea. They can easily do it again.

Are you telling me I don't have to pay extra for a dub I won't be listening to, ever? Please, we have every right to complain about dubs just like dub preferrers have every right to complain about the subs. Subs usually cost less though so it's less valid.

According to ANN, the movie will be shown subbed in San Fran starting May 21st followed by a theatrical run in Hawaii in mid-June.

I don't disagree, but a cheaper, sub only version of Haruhi would be Bandai saying "let's burn money!"

Of course if I remember correctly the DVD sales for season 1 sucked as much as the fanbase so it's probably burning money regardless?

I'm neutral in the sub/dub conflict, however if I had to lean one way or another, I would say sub-only releases generally were cheaper. However, that has recently changed quite a bit and is no longer true as companies realize that they are profiting much, they need to profit more thus a higher MSRP. They have to pay those license fees somehow, right? Licensing anime definitely isn't free. The following is based solely on MSRP, no discounts applied.

Nozomi Entertainment has maintained a $49.98 MSRP for 12-13 sub-only episodes.
Sentai Filmworks is moving MSRP from $39.98 to $49.98 for 12-13 sub-only episodes.
NIS America is maintaining a $59.98 MSRP for 12-13 sub-only episodes.

Meanwhile,
Media Blasters still maintains the single volume route with MSRP ranging from $19.99 4-6 episode sub-only volumes (Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei) to $29.99 (Queen's Blade) bilingual 4-6 episode volumes. A recent exception is Kanokon, which is bilingual and $19.99 each for 4 episodes.
Funimation continues to put out 12-13 bilingual episode sets at $59.98, sometimes at $49.98 and in Keroro Gunso, Shin-chan's case $39.98 MSRPs. They would then release a complete collection at an MSRP ranging from $59.98 to $69.98. Then they have their S.A.V.E. line which if you wait long enough, you can get anywhere from 12-26 episodes for $30 or less.

And nobody still cares about Viz Media. I sure don't.
