'Vinland Saga' 2nd Season Reveals Additional Cast, Staff, January 2023 Premiere

The Vinland Saga Season 2 Project Movie livestream revealed on Wednesday additional cast, staff, a key visual (pictured), and the first promotional video. The new season is scheduled to premiere on Tokyo MX and BS11 in January 2023.

Einar: Shunsuke Takeuchi (Akudama Drive)
Arnheid: Mayumi Sako (Kyokou Suiri)
Olmar: Yuu Hayashi (Tokyo Revengers)
Ketil: Hideaki Tezuka (Shingeki no Kyojin)
Thorgil: Taiten Kusunoki (Enen no Shouboutai)
Snake: Fuminori Komatsu (JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 3: Stardust Crusaders)

MAPPA is producing the second season, replacing animation studio Wit Studio. Kouhei Ogawa (Charlotte) is replacing Mayu Takehana as the CG director.

Kentarou Oonuki (Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song background art) and Izumi Hirabayashi (Great Pretender background art) are joining Yuusuke Takeda as art directors. Minori Nishida joins Satoshi Hashimoto as color designer and Satoshi Matsumuko (Digimon Ghost Game photography) is joining Yuuki Kawashita as the director of photography.

Vinland Saga adapts Makoto Yukimura's action adventure viking-themed manga, which he originally launched in Weekly Shounen Magazine in April 2005 before switching it to Monthly Afternoon in December that year. Kodansha published the 26th volume on May 23.

Kodansha USA licensed the manga in English in October 2012 and began publishing it in 2-in-1 omnibus format the following October. The 12th volume, covering volumes 23 and 24, shipped on December 14.

Unlike AoT, Vinland Saga S2 is compromised of EXACTLY the same staff that did Season 1. It simply changed studios because the Director right now is employed in Mappa, when they were freelancer during S1. So it honestly is no difference other than brand name for this particular show.

Actually the director wasn't freelancer since he was working at Madhouse (Madbox). Otherwise you're right.

This arc by far my favorite of the manga so far but I feel this will be more challenging to adapt than the previous in terms of story pacing and setting-wise. Would love to see this reach the heights of Planetes anime achieved.

The pv has surprisingly shown alot even if the show coming not so soon.

Well yeah the actual history behind Thorfinn probably leans to either a bittersweet or tragic end depending on where Yukimura goes with it. I haven't caught up with the manga so don't know how he is handling the latest arc.

Also yeah the trailer looks beautiful happy the same staff is working on it. Confirmed those are actual shots from the episodes too. Really captured the art style well. I loved Farmland even more than prologue so happy this is being treated with care and hopefully we see a full adaption. Ultimately I guess we will see how the wider masses react since the series is going to be 75% of the story being mainly a SOL title which might be jaring for some but it just has so much good character development.

Pretty sure there wont be enough source material for Ousama Ranking S2 for a long while

There will be a Ousama Ranking Panel hosted at the upcoming Anime Expo. I don't know the correct date but there we might get a S2 announcement.

Edit : I think there is enough source material for 12 ep series.
