'Back Street Girls' Gets Live-Action Adaptation

A live-action film adapting Jasmine Gyuh's Back Street Girls manga was announced by Toei on Monday. Titled Back Street Girls: Gokudolls (Back Street Girls: Yakuza Idols), the film will premiere in Japanese theaters on February 8, 2019.

Keinosuke Hara (Watashi no Jinsei Nanoni) is directing the film, with scripts by Shoichiro Masumoto (Sakigake!! Cromartie Koukou: The Movie) and Hidehiro Itou (Osaka Hamlet). The cast include Jin Shirasu, Reiya Masaki, Masato Hanazawa, Natsumi Okamoto, Ruka Matsuda, Akane Sakanoue, Tetsuya Sugaya, Nana Asakawa, Hitoshi Ozawa, Dori Sakurada, Ren Osugi, and Kouichi Iwaki.

Back Street Girls was serialized in Weekly Young Magazine between March 2015 and September 2018. Kodansha published the 11th compiled volume on June 6. A TV anime adaptation by J.C.Staff aired this summer for ten episodes.

Surprisingly, I think this kind of story can work as live-action. Not that I'm going to watch it myself anyway...

I wonder how much monologue there is going to be. Anyway, I just want to hear a lot of manly idols screaming! And they need to nail the sex change comedy if this wants to have any chance at being successful.

Fuck yeah. Not sure how it'll do in a more actor dialogue way but the trailer looks promising.

People were way to negative on this because animation was lacking, fuckin weak.

Damn, Sono could have made this series into a sick film, the absurdity of it would be perfect for him. Similar to how he made Tokyo Tribe into an insane film.

This show had an interesting premise, but the anime was badly done, so I dropped it.
A live action could be good though, absurd live action can work, like Prison School.
