'KanColle Movie' Opens in Theaters in Fall 2016

Monday's Kantai Collection event KanColle Haru no Kan Matsuri announced that the upcoming KanColle Movie will open in theaters in Japan in the fall quarter of 2016. A teaser visual of the movie was revealed on Thursday on the anime's official website.

Kantai Collection is a web browser game developed by Kadokawa which allows players to build naval fleets composed of battleships that are represented as "fleet girls." The characters themselves are based on real world ships from Japan's World War II era. A TV anime adaptation aired in Winter 2015.

A new promotional video for the movie was also unveiled at Monday's event. Attendees report that new ship appearances include the heavy cruisers Aoba and Kinugasa, the light cruiser Tenryuu, and aviation cruisers Suzuya and Kumano. Yui Horie will also have a voice role in the movie.

Ticket pre-orders for KanColle Movie will be accepted from April 23, with each ticket costing 1,500 yen. Customers who make their reservations will receive a commemorative postcard set. The movie is currently scheduled to open in 38 theaters in 23 prefectures.

The movie is the sequel, I'm pretty sure. The only announcement we got about any kind of sequel was that there'd be a sequel (続編) and there was no word on the format (ie TV series or movie). 続編 (Zokuhen) usually refers to a sequel series (series 2 or 3 or whatever have you), but it can refer to a movie as well. A good example of this would be Wake Up, Girls!, which has two movies labelled as "zokuhen".

This entry gives false info, such as it being a TV series. Given that it's been almost exactly a year since they said anything I think it's safe to say that the sequel that was announced at the end of S1 is indeed the movie.

I mean, KanColle's popular enough that it could most definitely get a second season, but it doesn't seem to me like they're working on it at the moment.

You need to hone your searching skills before you embarrass yourself. I submitted a news during the initial announcement of this movie. If you've actually went to read that post first, you'd have save all the embarrassment of yours.

Yep. With Girls' Work is it meanwhile since 6 years with his/her announcement - And still no update since at that time... And at Fate should actually since last year the airing/release date stand. - Dunno what Ufo makes, but they seem not in hurry to be...

Hmm... Well, this is what we none influence having - We've unhappily deal with it...xD

But really, this waiting period is nothing compare to some anime/movie titles, like Fate/Stay Night - Heaven's Feel or (as well a Ufo production) Girls' Work, where since years with them busy are...xD

Holy shit. Now that I remember yeah... Heaven's Feel for the Fate fans were a long wait. XD and its still going like that.
