 Monday's Kantai Collection event KanColle Haru no Kan Matsuri announced that the upcoming KanColle Movie will open in theaters in Japan in the fall quarter of 2016. A teaser visual of the movie was revealed on Thursday on the anime's official website.Kantai Collection is a web browser game developed by Kadokawa which allows players to build naval fleets composed of battleships that are represented as "fleet girls." The characters themselves are based on real world ships from Japan's World War II era. A TV anime adaptation aired in Winter 2015. A new promotional video for the movie was also unveiled at Monday's event. Attendees report that new ship appearances include the heavy cruisers Aoba and Kinugasa, the light cruiser Tenryuu, and aviation cruisers Suzuya and Kumano. Yui Horie will also have a voice role in the movie. Ticket pre-orders for KanColle Movie will be accepted from April 23, with each ticket costing 1,500 yen. | So they've added 15 extra screens since the advance ticket artwork was revealed a few days ago, from 23 to 38. Seems such a low number still, but I guess they can always add extra screens later if there is a seat shortage in the first weekend. KADOKAWA definitely is more cautious with the screen counts as the TV Anime sold much lower than they expected, but it isn't the first time they've done this, as the Haruhi Movie started with 24 screens and was expanded to 101 screens in the end. I guess they also want to avoid oversupply of seats as was the case with the High Speed Free! Movie, where 120 screens in its opening weekend was wayyyyy too much. With the Girls und Panzer Movie getting closer and closer to K-ON!'s 1.9 billion yen, will the KanColle movie be the 6th late-night TV Anime adaptation movie to reach 1 billion yen? We shall see... |

The only announcement we got about any kind of sequel was that there'd be a sequel (続編) and there was no word on the format (ie TV series or movie). 続編 (Zokuhen) usually refers to a sequel series (series 2 or 3 or whatever have you), but it can refer to a movie as well. A good example of this would be Wake Up, Girls!, which has two movies labelled as "zokuhen". This entry gives false info, such as it being a TV series. Given that it's been almost exactly a year since they said anything I think it's safe to say that the sequel that was announced at the end of S1 is indeed the movie. I mean, KanColle's popular enough that it could most definitely get a second season, but it doesn't seem to me like they're working on it at the moment. |
