An army and a Ground Self-Defense Force are different things. The Japanese doesn't even have an army ever since WWII

anyway....good stuff :)

No. An army is simply the military forces of a nation. Japan has these.

While it may very well be propaganda, it hardly 'forces' people into the armed forces.

Japan's military budget averages about 1% of GDP, about $41B, compared to US spending of 21% GDP, about $711B. Considering that Japan is the world's second largest economy after the US, the Japanese military budget is pretty modest. And since having an armed force is an important facet of maintaining national sovereignty, imo, the spending can be justified

Those numbers are off by quite a bit, even if you include the supplemental spending on the Iraq and Afghanistan wars by the US and the nuclear spending by the DOE. The US military budget is 636 billion which is equal to 4.5-4.7%. Japan spends .9% of GDP on their military (49 billion)

Double approved.

I admit first episode was quite depressing and boring but it was only because staff was very professional; making you feel like main character only just by watching. Thus, if you dropped it at the first episode or second, you are a giant F. :D

Since the anime is based on research and simulations of earthquakes you can asume the story is founded on reality (luckily on a smaller scale). What is wrong to show the human forces who usually tend to situations like that? Is it not realistic that you will see police- or fireman on such a scene? Do you think the country would not send soldiers to help out with an earthquake of that magnitude in a heavy populated area?

Yes it's some kind of PR, but as long as they don't fabricate a super human soldier capeable to stop the quakes with it's bare hands I don't mind the "more realistic kind of PR" at all.

Now it makes sense. The stunning visuals, characters, plot, etc. were all funded by the Japanese government as propaganda. I didn't know the JG made anime! Alright, cool, I'm American anyway.

Haha...I have only seen the Coast Guard so far in the anime, though I wouldn't really know for sure because I'm not really familiar with Japan's military/emergency structure.

well, that's what i learned at school..

lol, Well, school sucks for learning things. :P

Anyway if this wasn't Japan, that poster would be called propaganda. The show is still pretty good though. :)
