It's probably too early to even pre-judge, though.

I just hope she doesn't have to rely on some normal high school boy to help her restore the world.

Quantity over Quality and mediocre are the things that come to mind when I think of A-1 Pictures.
Yeah I'd definitely agree with the "safe" moniker. They tend to mainly deal with stuff that they know is going to be popular and sell well and primarily staff up only with names that have cred with the otaku scene. Honestly about the most I can expect from them at this point is that their stuff will be popular and get peoples attention for those reasons and that at least the first couple of episodes or in the case of movies one key scene will look good enough.
I also said almost any other studio and I'd be more interested. This again is just another to add to the list of A-1 titles coming out that I'm really struggling to keep track of now. Starting to wonder how many simultaneous projects is enough for them. When their president talked about their "just do it" campaign I didn't know he meant it quite literally. "Just do it" now seems like exactly the perfect and kind of ironic way to describe what's going on with that studio. Hey a project being shopped our way, line it up and just do it before somebody else gets it cause it might become popular. What's it about? Who cares just read the synopsis and find a couple of people that are popular and available to headline it and worry about the rest later? That's kind of how I envision the extent of the discussion on how these things get green lit.

A-1 is like the least of the industry's problems, so many worse studios out there.

Is there just nobody else interested in doing these sorts of things anymore?
Quantity over Quality and mediocre are the things that come to mind when I think of A-1 Pictures. I'm pretty sure the last work I actually managed to finish that they were involved in was Gin no Saji. They just seem very content to pump out popular for the sake of being popular series season after season lately that give them a very disposable quality. Its a very assembly line operation that doesn't inspire much appreciation. When arguably their best work to date is still Shin Sekai Yori and mainly because it was based on a mainstream sci-fi novel that succeeded on the strength of its source in spite of the uneven quality of it'd production and pretty obvious budget constraints I think that says a lot.
Honestly I'd probably be more interested in this project at this point if it was literally anyone other than A-1, otherwise at this point its just a matter of adding it to the long list of titles with popular names attached that I'm now starting to have a hard time keeping track of that theyre going to be churning out this year one after the other. Its just not a practice or approach I see as working out too well in anything other than sheer popularity.

Honestly I stopped getting excited about hearing popular staff names thrown into a blender on a project around the time Aniplex rolled out Guilty Crown. Before that show aired I honestly thought it was going to be a big time memorable hit, but after that brutally disappointed I started to realize that these projects have a tendency to rely on popularity and hype and more or less just phone the important aspects of anime production like good story telling, interesting premises and consistency, probably because they don't need to worry about those with the end already secured by hyping people up with big names. It just almost always seems to end in a cluster fuck of disappointment that is usually popular and sells well enough but ultimately are blatantly flawed and forgettable fare. Essentially I've stopped expecting anything big out of projects that lead off with a promotion that is essentially "look at all these popular names we assembled". I mean for me at least directing wasn't even one of Shin Sekai Yori's strong suits to begin with so the director announce doesn't do much for me. That show mainly succeeded on the strength of it's source materials writing and thematics and the viewer having enough patience to see it through to the end and get the full scope of what it was trying to convey. The animation production itself and direction of scenes was wildly spotty and inconsistent as is the norm for A-1 Pictures. Nothing special really give or take a couple of episodes that were guest directed by others.
I'm mainly interested now I guess to see how they fill in the rest of the staff and how predictable it is since that seems to be what's most important to them at the end of the day as far as promotional purposes go. Do they go with the safe choices as usual and stock the cast with their own favorites like Sora Amamiya and fujoshi icons as any male characters? Do they go with a safe choice on music like Sawano, Kajiura, Iwasaki? Do they go with Komori to further the Shin Sekai Yori connection or do we get somebody entirely different....maybe public domain?
Honestly though I really just don't get why A-1 has to do absolutely everything nowadays by the feel of it. It's like they're involved in some new project literally every week at this point and have something like 7 TV series, 4 OVAs and like 2-3 movies planned for 2015 already and it's only February. Is there just nobody else interested in doing these sorts of things anymore?

And I would've been hyped about this if the animation studio wasn't A-1 Pictrues... They've disappointed me with every movie project so far...
