*currently in China for an extended stay*
I asked my cousin about this and she did say it's a lot harder now to find Japanese media on Chinese youtube-like sites and other places. so although the news might turn out to be fake, it's probably partially true. not completely banned, just a lot harder to get it. (warned by Japanese industry to restrict the stuff? who knows ^^)

*sucks*
it's an easy case, just go download it in 'non-Chinese' websites

Mmmmm~ Now that is what I call good news.
I knew the Chinese weren't that goodie goodie to ban uploads of anime.

Wow, so most of us (including myself) got riled up for nothing.
Ho-hum.

I totally agree..

This law wouldn't completely damage the anime industry, especially for real otaku's in China who BUY their products, not view online illegally.

They never had a J-anime industry in the start.....
The Chinese copyright laws only stated, As long as if you don't make a profit from it, then you're fine.
You find anime burned DVDs on the streets for 5 - 7 RMB. It's everywhere. But only kids who don't know how to p2p buys that.

Great, rumors must remain rumors.

Well to be honest it should be illegal, by copyright laws, like I said already breaking laws doing it in the first place.

I don't like any of you who says "omg china sucks!!!!!". Look at your own miserable country with worse things. :v

I don't see the need for drama, they are just enforcing law that already existed. You uploading licensed anime (also with BT) is also a big crime. You've seen plenty of people getting caught and getting charged, now they are taking a step to the people behind this in the first place i.e. TPB etc. Now that this shit happens, they are pretending all innocent.

This seems more like a protection to its citizens anyway. Who knows, they might turn out into people just like you who go like "OMGGGG CHINA SUXXXXX I WANT ANYMAY & MANGAH!!!1".

It's not like they are banning sales of this anime, manga and games, they are just banning the uploads. Chances that this was just a deal between the Chinese and Japanese are there. :v

Although story is a fake anyway buuuttt...

This's just a fake news.

Ah, they ban everything already anyway. ^^ It just means they are not producing good enough stuff to prevent people from preferring the Japanese ones.

I'm sure it's technically illegal in most countries to upload anime etc. to websites, isn't it? Infringement of copyright and everything. Besides, as people say, there's always DVDs and other non-Chinese websites that can be used. Also the TV ban is only for a certain time period, they're not completely removing japanime from Chinese TV screen. So I don't really see what's the big deal? :s (unless I'm missing some huge point here...?)

And I just read ZoiQ's post, agree with you there~

China's internet patrol has to be one of the largest in the nation lol. Seems like there are massive restictions on the internet in the first place. With this ban, I think it actually hurts local anime productions. In the 21st century, China should embrace technology as a form of economic power. Using the right paradigm, the Chinese could make money off of online anime, create a larger fan base for the anime, and even market the anime to a worldwide audience. Reducing japanesse anime online will affect the popularity of anime in Chinese society. It may even bring about a "black market" within China for anime (for all the otakus) :P. In this case, they are limiting the potential that the local anime productions could have, which is a step in the wrong direction.

Competition (Japanese anime vs. Chinese anime) is healthy and allows for each group to try to animate better (but maybe not so much in a communist nation like China). I do think the prohibition of the airing of Japanese anime between 5pm - 8pm is a good idea as it will reintroduce and protect the domestic anime industry. They don't want to entirely "outsource" anime to another country after all lol.
