English Dub Cast for Miyazaki's 'Kaze Tachinu' Announced
The cast includes:
Joseph Gordon-Levitt: Jiro Horikoshi, main character
Emily Blunt: Nahoko Satomi, love interest
John Krasinski: Honjo, Jiro's college pal and fellow aviation engineer
Martin Short: Kurokawa, Jiro's grumpy boss
Stanley Tucci: Caproni, Italian airplane creator
Mandy Patinkin: Hattori, senior designer at Mitsubishi
William H. Macy: Satomi, Nahoko's father
Werner Herzog: the mysterious Castorp
Mae Whitman: Kayo, Jiro's younger sister, as well as Kinu, Nahoko's caretaker
Jennifer Grey: Mrs. Kurokawa
Darren Criss: Katayama, one of Jiro's engineering colleagues
Elijah Wood: Sone, another of Jiro's colleagues
Ronan Farrow: Mitsubishi employee
In an interview with USA Today, Gordon-Levitt said in regards to the film, "The Wind Rises" is "clearly the work of someone who's a master at their craft." Rather than imaginary creatures and worlds, "this one is more grounded in human beings and a historical moment in time. He goes on to say that "there's still a flavor of magic in it as you go inside the mind of this aeronautics engineer and you see him walking on the wings of airplanes in his dream."

lol why is Ronan Farrow in this.
not one real va in the bunch baf cast
English voice actors suck.
These are actual genuine actors. There's a reason why Ghibli dubs are actually good.
Billy West, John DiMaggio, Tress MacNeille, Rob Paulsen, Frank Welker, Phil LaMarr, Maurice LaMarche are only a few examples of English-speaking voice actors who are superb. You may not know their names, but if you've watched anything animated out of the US in the past oh, 20-30 years, you know their work.

Has he ever done any voice acting work though? Hopefully this turns out good.

Still, I can't help but see "Hollywood influence". But for some reason I'm actually really intrigued.
and Elijah Wood and Short should be trustworthy (nod)

Are you serious? The traditional English VA are actual actors as well. Only difference between English VAs are they didn't have the talent to get Live Action jobs so they turn to Voice Acting.
And if you aren't convinced actual A-list actors aren't better than English VAs, just go look at every Pixar Film. Most of them are stock full of A-List Actors/Actresses and they do one hell of a job (ex. Toy Story).
A ton of the VAs do theater performances as well actually.

Mae Whitman plays Katara in Avatar: TLA. I'm surprised no one has made the connection yet.

I wanted to watch this anyway, but I guess I'll just wait until the dub is out.
Has it been announced yet when that will be?

Inb4 OMG DUBS SUCKS ERM SUB FTW EWW and this becomes another sub vs dub thread
What are you talking about? Miyazaki dubs were always more professional than your average anime dub.
Correction: the Disney Miyazaki dubs suck. They are the WORST DUBS OF ALL TIME. Poor acting, bad bad translating, bad voice directing, bad everything. Anyone who thinks otherwise has NO right to be a Ghibli fan. Either watch the Japense versions, the non-Disney dubs, or don't watch them at all. Disney DESTROYED Ghibli's movies.
/sarcasm.
Seriously, I'm looking forward to this. This should be another great dub to the Disney Ghibli cannon. Pleased to see Mr. Montoya make his second appearance since the underrated "Castle in the Sky" dub. He was great in that.
