New Anime Element Hunter Announced

A new TV anime "Element Hunter" was announced to be aired from July 2009. The anime is a collaboration of the Japanese national TV channel NHK and a Korean anime production studio Heui-Won Entertainment.

Series Organizer: Arakawa Naruhisa ("Spice and Wolf")

Production Studio: NHK Enterprise, Heui-Won Entertainment

Synopsis: In 2029, a large scale ground sinkage occurred in Mediterranean Sea and chemical elements such as oxygen, carbon, gold, molybdenite, and cobalt suddenly disappeared from the earth's crust. Human population was decreased by 90% in sixty years. Researchers found out that the disappeared elements were drained into a planet "Nega Earth", which located in different dimensions. To save the Earth, a special team "Element Hunter" is organized. All the members are under 14 years old because young and flexible brains are required to access to "Nega Earth".

Sounds boring. If they were older then 16 I might've considered watching it, but under 14? No way in hell.

Kazunori Ito's involved? Although the idea of the heroes being younger than 14 is stupid as f*ck (unless they get really deep with why they choose people that young....cannon fodder, perhaps?), I still wanna see how this turns out. Sign me up.

Perhaps if GONZO were making it. But then the hunters would be loli anthromorphizations of elements in the periodic table with personalities matched against their chemical properties. Also, they're witches, and when they form their magical circle it matches their Bohr electron configuration. Also, it's yuri, as some "react" with each other in very interesting ways upon physical contact. They all go to school together at Periodica Gakuen, whose headmaster is an insane Russian named Mendeleev.

Agreed, that idea is way cooler. Reminds me of Zero no Tsukaima for some reason, with the mentioning of the headmaster. :P

Hmm, this could either be really cool or kind of meh but not outright terrible. The first thing that shot out to me though was Kazunori Ito as the script writer, so this could actually be pretty awesome Sci Fi. Guess we'll wait and see.
