Yeah, how can a 2.5X jump NOT be considered a surprise? Has any other anime experienced such a significant increase after announcing the inclusion of a bonus manga chapter? I don't mean that rhetorically, like really is there precedent for this?

I'm curious because it seems a bit difficult to believe that that ENTIRE increase is attributable to one bonus manga chapter...If that were the case wouldn't we see more anime including bonus manga chapters in their BD/DVD?

I could be wrong, and you would probably know better than I do, but does the addition of a chapter of manga typically lead to a significant increase in sales? And if so, why does it seem like not too many companies do this?
The jump is ranking is spectacular, whether you look in the Stalker estimate or just look at the Amazon ranking, so regardless of perspective the jump is amazing indeed. Just look at Blood Lad, it also has manga bundled but we have seen little effect in boosted sales so far. Granted, it may start low, but Kimi Machi did not begin *that low* like 0.5k estimate, so I would say the jump is truly an impressive one. One reason I would say that is the manga artist knows what sells his manga, and the particular manga included in vol.1 of BD/DVD has sex appeal very much stressed even in the announcement ad for the inclusion of the manga. I am sure this is a major factor for the big jump in the vol.1 sales ranking after the announcement. Even though it has fallen down since it is likely that the final sales estimate will be noticeably higher than pre-announcement estimate.

While it's an impressive jump, let's keep it in perspective... it wasn't doing very well to begin with so this jump isn't all that shocking in absolute terms.

Also remember that Stalker's estimates are based on the past week of data. If you take the estimate during a strong week with a fair amount of days left until release, it can be a lot higher. So that 6.2k estimate? Check right now and it's already back down to 4.7k. As more time goes by and the rank stays lower with the manga bump over for a longer period of time, that will likely drop even more.

I think you might have missed my point just slightly. I wasn't trying to suggest its sales were earth shattering. Rather, I think the post I quoted was suggesting that the boost in sales was no surprise, and I thought a significant boost just from a bonus chapter was surprising.

I could be wrong, and you would probably know better than I do, but does the addition of a chapter of manga typically lead to a significant increase in sales? And if so, why does it seem like not too many companies do this?

Edit: Also, bummer that it's not doing as well anymore. I hope it can manage to stay over 4k.

Kimi no Iru Machi has its sales estimate increased by a whopping 258% (from 2.4k to 6.2k) after the announcement of manga as an extra to its BD/DVD vol.1
This isn't a surprise, since the manga seems to be quite popular and the bonus chapter is a big draw.
I know the bonus chapter is very alluring - everyone who saw the advertisement (done in manga form) should be able to tell that. But yet I would say that a rise to >2.5 times its previous sales estimate IS a surprise. I doubt you would have guessed the manga could cause such an astounding jump if you had not known it beforehand.

Anyways, as someone who has liked Suzuka and Kimi no iru machi, I'm pleased to see it do well, even if it's just been boosted by a bonus manga chapter (though I'd like to think some people buy it because they like the show itself as well).

Yea, I should have said Blu-ray. Love Live was not released in DVD though. That said, it's very likely that Love Live 7 will beat Utapri 4 (both Blu-ray and DVD combined)

^ Did anyone notice that Love live 6 beat Utapri 3 in the first release date? Since the first day almost always the biggest selling date of an anime (when most of the re-orders are recorded), Love Live will likely beat Utapri in the first week count for the second time.

On blu-ray, yes. Love Live doesn't even rank on DVD, where utapri gets a lot of its sales.

That's why they chose it for the 2nd ending. Needless to say I first became aware of UVERworld through this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XPq2WHwN6M and have been waiting for their return to anime themes so I'm ultimately okay with the new OP in the long run.

Good song, doesn't really fit the series though. I think my favorite Yamato song used in 2199 has to be http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJgIlnyhJ1A this one called Makka no Scarf. It sounds absolutely nothing like what you'd hear in a modern anime OVA/Movie/TV (probably cause it isn't and actually was from the original as well) and has a sort of melancholic and nostalgia tone to it. Really great stuff.

Just a question symbv, how did you actually get so called 'manabi line' as a specific value? I originally thought manabi line is somewhere near 4000, but seems value has taken a shift, or I just had a wrong information. I've always wondered how people actually figure out this stuff.
Someone once raised similar question before, so I'd just copy the link here for your perusal. In short, manabi line is always 2899 and has never shifted, and the reason lies with its name.
