So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

It has been 3 weeks since my previous Stalker analysis so it is about time to have another look at the Stalker estimate of the 1st week sales for anime in this season. By now, the season is past the mid-point and most series are now entering the final stage in terms of story. This is a good time to look at the relative popularity of the titles before the ending of the season comes to have a final impact on the sales prospect.

Observations:

- Monogatari NekoShiro v1 has been hovering in a rather unspectacular position at around #30-#45 and it has quite some impact on its sales prospect. Almost 20k (or more than one third) of the earlier sales estimate has now gone. As far as I see, I do not see any particular strong negative feedback for the series - in fact many seem to be happy with how NekoShiro arc is wrapped up. So I am not sure if the fall is a real drop or Amazon starts to get further underestimation of the sales.

- Free! is slowly but steadily building up support, both among male and female anime fans. And it is also reflected in the noticeable increase in its sales estimate.

- Shows that have shown substantial improvement in sales estimate (above manabi-line)
Kimi no Iru Machi has its sales estimate increased by a whopping 258% (from 2.4k to 6.2k) after the announcement of manga as an extra to its BD/DVD vol.1
Uchoutn Kazoku has its sales estimate jumped by more than one third (from 2.8k to 3.8k) after a succession of universally acclaimed episodes (particularly ep.8 for its emotional depth and skilful direction).
Love Lab has its sales estimate jumped by more than one third (from 2.2k to 3.0k) after the male characters started to make appearance.
Kiniro Mosaic saw its sales estimate improved by around one fourth (from 3.8k to 4.7k) as it built on its reputation of high quality production and consistent mood of humor and warmth.
Fate/kaleid Illya saw its sales estimate jumped by around one fifth (from 4.7k to 5.6k) after the episodes that depicted stunning battles against Caster and Saber were aired.
Dangan Ronpa and Symphogear G also saw noticeable gain in sales estimate.
Brother Conflicts and Servant x Service also showed improvement in sales estimate, probably because they were close to release date.

- Shows that have shown substantial improvement in sales estimate (below manabi-line)
Fantasista Doll saw its sales estimate jumped by more than one third (from 0.8k to 1.1k) as the last few episodes were deemed particularly interesting and funny.
Teekyuu saw its sales estimate jumped by around one fifth (from 2.1k to 2.5k)
Blood Lad saw its sales estimate jumped by around one fifth (from1.5k to 1.8k)
Senyuu saw its sales estimate jumped by around one fourth (from1.2k to 1.5k)
Kintakubu also saw its sales jumped from 0.5k to 0.8k as fan feedback for the last few episodes saw substantial improvement.

- The only other show that has shown substantial drop in sales estimate in the last 3 weeks is Devil and Realist which could be due to the fading of boost effect coming from BD/DVD extras.

I'm very glad that Uchouten Kazoku is getting higher estimates now, but still barely above the Manabi Line. Not to mention the low sales of Watamote or Gifuu Doudou or Gin no Saji or Genshiken Nidaime. It baffles me how Makai Ouji manages to top all of them.

I'm glad Monogatari and Free! are doing well though, but I don't enjoy any other titles above the 5k sales line this season. Well, to be fair 3 of those 5 are related to other series.

Aesthetic value can be recognized or experienced, but it cannot be conveyed to those who are incapable of grasping its sensations and perceptions. To quarrel on its behalf is always a blunder.

It's Haruna Luna, not Runa. Just a little something I noticed.

Now to read the predictions...

Well, 4.2k is lower than I thought Servant X Service would get but that is still a decent number.

I am sure all monogatari series sales well jump up alot as we get further into the current arc, because the show is still really good at the moment. It is just that everyone was thrown off alittle bit by the first arc and the lack of Araragi at first.

Runa is also correct because I was doing transliteration from her Japanese name. But since she uses Luna as her English name, I will make the switch from Runa to Luna.

Seems like the opening change mid-season didn't go as well as expected. Personally I like the song, but as stated once before, prefer the first one. I wonder how the second ending will do.

The two EDs for HDxD New will all be grouped into one album "Highschool DxD New: Ending CharaSong Album" together with a bunch of character songs. It is to be released tomorrow.

Question is, will Kabuki sell better than Neko Shiro?

Do people actually read the novels first? Sales figures indicate many people are buying them but if they read them they would have known that Araragi would not be in a lot of that first arc.

Will they see this as a series where they should buy the first one and all the rest or as independent arc shows?

AnH not ranking is not surprising at all, even if you don't follow stalker. But it seems they got what they wanted with the increased manga sales.

when are manga sales released?
Thursday, but the actual thread in MAL may come a bit later as the data are translated from Japanese and compiled.

Good sales for SnK V2, although I hoped for 45K+, V1 is hanging really well, don't remember when was last time that anime was able to rank 6 weeks in row in both DVD and BD charts. I think V2 should reach 50K, but probably not much more.

Quite amazing sales for OP and OST (should hit 50K in 2 weeks)
Does someone knows what was last OP and OST who did better than SnK.

Sad SxS didn't pass 5K, it's one of my favorite shows this season.

This is great. I like these songs. By the way, judging from Stalker estimation, Gifuu Doudou is still an air anime in Japan. What a shame as the recent developments of the anime has took an interesting turn.
Nothing is bad for being in any genre or demographic, especially anime for kids.

No, it has outsold only all anime singles since 2000, but singles of Evangelion like "Zankoku Tenshi no These / Fly Me to the Moon" sold > 600k and "Tamashii no Refrain" sold >800k. I don't think "Jiyuu no Shingeki", currently at 200k, can reach that level.

I'm glad to see Servant x Service doing better than expected. Those are pretty good sales, all things considered.

I have a question that may come across as stupid (sorry in advance): Why is it that in some rare cases the DVD sales clearly surpass the Blu-ray sales (like Brother's Conflict here)? Is it about the picture quality or extras unique to the DVD release? I just find it strange because the majority of series nowadays sell at least 2 times more BDs but then you have those exceptions.

The estimate in my post includes both BD and DVD. If it is just BD, then the estimate is 5.1k not 6.5k

If you look at those anime which sold more in DVD than BD, you usually see one common trait: They are either female-oriented shows or mainstream/family oriented shows. It is because conventional wisdom has it that male otaku are much more fussy about video quality and so they all flock to buy the BD. Women and parents care less about the video quality than price, hence DVD for them.

Thanks. I mostly follow only anime/manga sales not anime single sales, so i was not sure that I couldn't remember any other single with 200+K.

Glad that Uchouten Kazoku managed to sell well (while not reaching manabi line). This show has been a fantastic ride for me and finally gets the attentions it actually deserves.

Attack on Titan still undefeatable. Wonder how strong it will remains to be after the anime ends

Also note that the DVD gets the event ticket too so in cases where all you want is the ticket you might save a few yen and get the DVD that you don't plan to watch anyway.

...
Note: those are sales predictions for summer. So far only Brothers Conflict and Servant x Service have any actual sales numbers up for summer. Uchoten Kazoku doesn't come out for 4 weeks and the sales will not be actual until that time. Post #2 shows that it doesn't come out until September 25.

And note if it sells the latest number then it will be over the line...

No fooling, this is the worst season for BDs in almost a decade. It's also the worst season in the terms of merchandise since 2003, actually I think it's worse than 2003.

Definitely, considering the best selling single with an anime tie up, though in that case by a mainstream artist, sold over 2 million copies back in the 90s and all.

Though there have been singles with anime tie ups by mainstream artists post 2000 that have passed 200k as well, things look pretty different once you start counting those.

Given that the sale of the original manga of Ser x Ser is also much less than Working, I guess SerSer's much weaker anime sales is not really so surprising, though in a stronger season it should be able to push more sales ...

25% drop for Shingeki V2 over V1 first week sales. Still, the amount it sold in V1 will be more than all the V1's this season's shows will sell combined ( If you take Free and Monogatari out of the picture ). That's pretty crazy. Then again this season is pretty underwhelming in terms of sales.

I think Antanaru is referring to the top 10 in this week's list which has only 2 titles from this season (although I don't quite get what he meant by "worst") and I think you are talking about the current summer season? And those are quite different things...

And with at least one work going to have >40k sales and one going to have >15k sales, it is hard to say it is definitely the worst "for a decade". Just look at 2010 winter:

18311 Durarara!
*8512 Himdamari3
*7506 Katanagatari
*7188 BakaTest

Or 2008 winter

13200 Aria3
*8728 Wolf & Spice
*6892 Hakaba Kitaro
*5452 Zoku Setsubo-sensei

But of course even if it may not be the weakest, 2013 summer is clearly heading towards being one of the worst...

In terms of sales it's probably best to stop paying attention to summer and focus on the (most likely) gloriously selling fall season instead. Except Monogatari, that is.

Looking at KamiNomi low sale really make me sad. But on the bright side my other favorite DxD have a promising sale.
Kickstarter for Rokujouma is fully funded. Good work everyone. Lets wait for the result of our hard work together.

Personally I have reservation of how well the fall season will sell. A lot depends on heightened expectation for IS2, KuroBas2 and Little Busters Refrain, and of course the usual KyoAni hype (but then we don't even know how strong this Kyoukai no Kanata is). I don't think other titles have really strong claim to be big sellers, at least not until we see more of production details or even the first few episodes.

I can't shake off that feeling that there are some hidden gems in between the fall line-up. Oh well, we'll see once the time comes, as you've said.

Fate/kaleid Illya saw its sales estimate jumped by around one fifth (from 4.7k to 5.6k) after the episodes that depicted stunning battles against Caster and Saber were aired.

A much deserved boost. That Archer Illya vs Saber Alter sakuga fight was amazing, it felt like I was watching Fate/Zero.

I don't think Fall will be any better, besides KuroBas2 and maybe IS, I'm not seeing any progress. Doesn't help that I'm planning to watch far fewer anime in Fall due to the season having pretty much every sequel of anime I've dropped and a VN I dropped.
