Live Action and Anime Hybrid Movie 'MINT' Due in 2014

It was announced today that an original movie project "MINT", which mixes live action footage with anime, will be released to theaters in Japan in 2014. The movie is set in near future Japan and revolves around "MINT System" which is a virtual world environment built for child patients taken in by the National Pediatrics Medical Centers around the country. The story is about Hiro, one patient who has serious illness, and Nana, a girl whom he meets in MINT, and how Hiro strives to overcome his illness over time.

The movie will be made by Nega Design Works. Oku Shutaro, director of movie "USB" and stage director of musicals like "Persona 4", will be the director. Kise Kazuchika, CEO of Production I.G, will be the animation director. Kumagai Jun, who wrote the screenplay for Persona 4 the Animation, will handle the screenplay. Meguro Shouji will be responsible for the music.

Shoji Meguro doing the music, well damn. Probably a rare moment to see him make music outside of Megaten series so this will be interesting.

There are many kind of hybrid. Aku no Hana is one - rotoscoping but MINT seems to be something less integrated - it seems quite possible the live action and anime footage are separate.
