Kansai Club Publishing Announces Acquisition of Rights to Osamu Tezuka's The Crater
After months of discussions and contract negotiations with Tezuka Productions, Kansai Club Publishing is proud to announce the title of the first book they will be publishing in English, Osamu Tezuka's "The Crater." Kansai Club Publishing would like to bring the joy of owning one of Osamu Tezuka's most charming and powerful collections of short stories to American Tezuka aficionados and collectors of classic comics alike. Of the numerous short story collections created by the late and great "Godfather of Japanese Comics," "The Crater" stands out as the perfect blend of mystery, suspense, horror, fantasy, and comedy. This is the first time that one of Tezuka-sensei's short story collections will be published in English.
"The Crater" first appeared in Japan's "Weekly Shonen Champion" and ran from August 10, 1969 to April 1, 1970. It has since been reprinted in Japanese on numerous occasions, but this is the first time that "The Crater" will be published for English speaking audiences. Kansai Club will be printing a single Limited Edition of this amazing book which will include all 18 short stories from the original publication. Kansai Club is only printing 2,000 copies of this book and each book will be individually numbered out of 2,000. The books will be printed in a large hardcover format (7 x 10 inches), will include 3 different 7 x 10 in art prints inspired by content from "The Crater", and will be encompassed in a high-quality colored slipcase. The MSRP for the book will be set at $34.95. The book's official date of release will be July 5, 2013 at Florida Supercon; however, Kansai Club will be running a Kickstarter campaign that will start within the next two weeks. Kansai Club Publishing L.L.C. is an American publishing company that specializes in importing and translating Japanese literature and manga from the 1940s to the 1970s. The organization is small, intimate, and comprised of a close-knit group of individuals who genuinely love good manga. Their singular goal is to expose the American public to classic, obscure, rare, visually pleasing, emotionally taxing, and often archaic Japanese manga that have never before been published in English. As adamant collectors and manga aficionados, we pride ourselves in only publishing the most sought-after works in the highest possible quality at the lowest possible cost to fans.
"The Crater" is a must-read for any fan of traditional and contemporary manga and a must-own for all comic book collectors. Kansai Club promises that our Limited Edition printing of "The Crater" will prove to be among the highest quality works in your collection and will stand out on your shelf as a fitting homage to the late and great Osamu Tezuka.
