According to the official website, the releases of Girls und Panzer Blu-rays except for the first volume will be postponed one month due to the delay in the production of the Blu-ray-only OVAs. The producer explained that the quality of the second episode of the OVA would be unsatisfactory if it were released as scheduled.

If they're brushing up the quality, then I can wait. I'm glad that they've postponed it to focus on this and I look forward to seeing it when it's out.
One thing that I want to qualify everyone's expectation is that what the announcement said, which is also reiterated later by the director, is that the delay is mainly caused by the need to make the OVA for each BD volume. So the extra month will be mainly taken up to make the extra OVA that will be bundled in the BD volume. They may also brush up the quality of the TV series itself, but it should constitute only a small part of extra month they are going to take.

Looks like this announcement has helped GirlPan get into the top 5 among all videos on Amazon for the first time. 2nd volume has passed Gundam Unicorn in the rankings too.

Currently 1 & 2 are 1& 2 in the anime rankings and 1 is 5 in all DVD. Cool snowball effect.

And there I was, thinking that Chuuni might finally get closer to GuP...

What I mean is that is: saying "it is not the greatest show" is not the same as saying "there are lots of better Fall shows this season, but GnP? Really? Lol." or "JAPAN WHY". The tone is different. I sense snarky and dismissive tone in the latter but not in the former.

Lol. I see, well I didn't mean it totally in that tone, but I guess it can interpret into that kind of tone more. Anyways oh well.

I can wait a bit if it means that the ova will be good. I seen enough shitty anime episodes already.

@symbv

...?

My original post: "There are lots of better Fall shows this season, but GnP? Really? Lol. It's an okay show, but definitely not a Blu-Ray show I'd buy."

You: "Anyway, all I want to say is that your wording in your original post just does not seem to be saying the same thing as simply "it's not the greatest show".

Uh what?

Nov 29, 2012 11:36 AM by Tyrel

That's a good decision. Good things come to those who wait.

Not complaining, as much as being bashed at because I said "JAPAN WHY." Am I not allowed to express that it's not the greatest show or what here? and Ofc I'm going to say "GnP? Really? lol" It's not the greatest show that I think should deserve more buyers, plenty of better ones out there. Again this was my opinion.

I don't see how my post can be classified as you being bashed at. Your "JAPAN WHY" with all those capitalization just seems to be a big shout to ask why on earth should this show be top-selling out of all the other possible candidates this season, so I proceed to explain why and in fact I went the length by producing an account from a person in Japan who actually pays money to buy the BDs (thus contributing to the high rank of GnP in Amazon stalker chart). Anyway, all I want to say is that your wording in your original post just does not seem to be saying the same thing as simply "it's not the greatest show". And by the way, you are not even disallowed to say a snarky "JAPAN WHY" here, but if you so choose to phrase your opinion that way, then I guess you should not be surprised to see people react to it a bit differently from a plain statement of personal opinion.

@Dalek-baka, on the other hand, both GuP and Saki are sports anime while Strike Witches is about saving the world (even if they don't take it too seriously 90% of the time, there is still that 10%). When it comes to plot style - tournament - and (lack of) drama, GuP is much more similar to Saki than Strike Witches. Mix of both with no yuri and fanservice (as in ecchi meaning because there's plenty of military fanservice).
Personally I refer to GuP as Saki combined with World of Tanks, battles in the anime give off really similar feeling to the game. I'm sure at least part of staff plays and loves it.

Long wall of text. You didn't need to write me a report because of what I said. I really just didn't expect it to be top selling.

It is not just for you but for anybody reading this thread and following the discussion. Besides I have already ABRIDGED the summary I read into points, so I don't think it is really a "wall of text" unless you are talking about a low wall.

I guess if you had just said simply that you did not expect it to be top selling, I might have tried a little less hard, but your tone (" but GnP? Really? Lol.", "JAPAN WHY") seems to be a bit more dismissive of the worth and merits of the show as well as the industry and fans in Japan, so I guess I just put in some effort into explaining how it is appreciated by people who actually put in orders to buy the BD of this show.

@Symbv > Lmao.

quality > quantity by postponing
I just wished a few other particular animes did this as well on some on their OVAs (or even the episode(s) if possible

Would probably mess up the sales though, so it's probably too much to ask for

No because the show isn't that interesting too me. I looked at score like as soon as I said that.

Glad they're taking their time to make it better.

This show has been a surprise hit so I wouldn't have it any other way!

I doubt yuri has any net negative effect - just look at Strike Witches for example.

I think the keyword is "net" in "net negative effect". What I read among discussion in places like 2ch is that there are a significant number of fans who are not into yuri and even feel turned off by more explicit show of yuri action like kissing/fondling of female by female. To them, the presence of such elements can be sufficient reason for NOT buying the BD of the show. Since GirlPan is a show that is thorough in not providing fanservice and made serious effort at making the tanks and mecha appealing, it may be a wise decision for it to suppress any yuri element in the show (as yuri is a very tempting thing to do with such a big all-girl cast).

What I would say is that yuri shows has its niche and the niche can be quite big, but it is a two-edge sword, having yuri elements can hurt sales in other fan sectors too. And the level of yuri also matters, I read that many fans of Yuru Yuri like it precisely because it has "just the right level of yuri and not something hardcore". So if YY has more explicit Yuri I can see real risk that its sales may drop.

@ Dalek-baka, you are quite right. Strike Witches is also very comparable. There is no wonder that fans in Japan now talk about the three "PAN": SutoPan (Suto=Sutoraiku=Strike, Pan is of course "pantsu" although the official wording from the anime is "it is not pantsu so no embarrassment!") which is the nickname for SW, GirlPan and ViviPan (Vivired Operation - Pan stands for "hot pants" here) which has SW staff in it as well. GirlPan stands out here because it is the only anime which actually has PAN in its name and the PAN does not stand for Pantsu :-)

The funny thing is that originally I expected GirlPan to be a tank version of Saki or Strike Witches but it turned out to be something quite different, to my utter pleasant surprise ! :-)
