In a review in Time magazine, confirmation was made that Disney will release Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea. The English version will be available sometime in 2009, with no word yet on whether the film will be released in theaters.

Both Howl's Moving Castle and Spirted Away (both by Miyazaki) made theatrical debuts in the U.S.

The dubs for Spirited away and Howls moving Castle were great, Disney treated them good.

But my favorite dub by far has got to be Kiki's delivery service. Phil Hartman was fantastic as Jiji, as was Kirsten Dunst with Kiki. I personally love it when Kiki say's "okay" in the English version, it's so adorable XD.
Besides that, they even added music and more dialogue to the movie, which brought it to life more than the Japanese version.

English dubs don't always suck guys.

Indeed. Castle in the Sky took a similar approach with Kiki, and although opinions vary, I still think that this is a good dub, which, while probably going overboard with the extra dialogue at times, is still a lot of fun and brings a terrific sense of energy and life to the film, with great performances--the leads are probably a little too old, but the supporting characters more than make up for it, as does Hisaishi's rescored music. (Hope I'm not in the minority for liking this dub.)

Can't wait to see it! Does anyone know if Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle was dubbed in theatres? Hopefully they won't have time to dub it!

You figured as much. From what I've heard, the Japanese press loved the movie...

The European press as well. Already considered a classic by most of the appreciators.

As for the Disney changes, I personally found them *insert word to describe a mix of disgust and sadness and rage*. It was sorted with the Japanese production, but since then Disney went way down in my consideration. Hard to regain trust again.

Oh and I watched most Ghibli movies in Portuguese anyway. :p

well thus far disney has dont well not to mess up Miyazaki works. well it was part of the deal they made anyways. i actually havent seen this one so i should put it on my to watch list.

Indeed. Granted they did add extra dialogue and music to KIKI and LAPUTA, but I really don't mind that because they're at least still in character and spirit with both movies. I personally ADORE all Ghibli's movies in English, and can't watch them in Japanese, no matter what other people may say.
