They discussed this already last week ;)

I don't think HYD needed the movie to boost the manga sales. That is the first new volume of HYD to be published in years, collecting the side stories that have come out since the main storyline ended. HYD has always been a great seller, I am sure it would have sold well anyway ^_^ Of course, the movie didn't hurt. :D

Isn't that the cooking manga Viz said they were going to be releasing some stand-alone volumes of recently?

Edit: http://giapet.net/2008/07/04/ax08-viz-media/
Starting off is Oishinbo, the “Grand-daddy of all food manga,” whose 102nd volume just came out in Japan. VIZ will not put out all 102 volumes but they’ll pull together the “a la carte” editions, stand-alone volumes from the series. This isn’t new, but is still awesome. Looks like eight volumes? I may have lost count.

Oishimbo, Oishinbo... looks close enough to me :P

Aye, they did the same thing with Golgo 13, releasing (what else?) thirteen stand-alone volumes.

I'd actually heard of Oishinbo before Viz licensed it, so that was a pleasant surprise, and yes, it's apparently one of the most popular series in Japan, and even won a Shogakukan Manga Award back in 1987. I'll be interested in checking it out myself.
