The Manga Taisho (マンガ大賞) is an annual Japanese manga award. The award is limited to series with eight or fewer collected volumes, in order to promote newer titles. The nominating committee, composed of staff members from bookstores, each initially vote for five series and the titles with the top ten number of votes become the official nominees of the year. Finally a second round of voting determines the winner, as well as second and third place.

A manga that makes you want to travel when you read it.

A manga that somehow makes you want to travel and feel like traveling when you read it. Manga based on light novels are included in the manga version.

There are some BL works mixed in, so be careful if you don't like them.

Critics & Connoisseurs was a club that was founded in 2008 and ended club activities on the 31st of 2022.

The goal of the club was to come up with a list of highly recommended quality shows and manga that are exemplary either within its genre or universally. A manga needed a 70% approval rate in our voting to get on the relation list. The following manga are all part of said list.
Do note that our club's main focus always was anime, our club's readership was relatively low which results in a lot of manga not being able to reach enough votes to get on the relation list despite having a 70% or higher approval rate.

These manga showcase a relationship where the characters are in two different age groups, based on societal norms. While not always the case, these characters sometimes must overcome challenges or societal stigma associated with the Age Gap.

A list of manga with the most realistic artwork I can think of. Some titles have their own style added into the manga, this is totally fine - so cartoonish features and anatomically incorrect proportions are fine - so long as backgrounds or character art is high quality and reminiscent of realistic imagery/CGI then its eligible for this list.

Seinen manga that can be enjoyed by underage (-18) readers.
Most of them are Comedy/Sports/SOL based.

!!! Waga Na wa Umishi Chapter 131 contains some uncensored nudity (I was totally caught off-guard) so you can read up to 130 without any problem, or skip 131 and go straight to 132 because you won't miss out on anything important.
Also, Hokuhokusei ni Kumo to Ike shows some of those scenes (Ch 8 + cover of Ch 10).
Dr. Kumahige has an unnecessary boob exposed moment in Ch 18.

Manga which feature subject-matters that would conventionally be considered "boring". There are some distinct subsets in this list.

What definitely makes manga great would be that it goes over a broad range of themes/topics. Manga isn't afraid of addressing taboo topics, nor does it avoid concepts that most other entertainment mediums WOULDN'T DARE to touch. They also provide an imaginative exploration of how the Japanese perceive these topics. We rarely get cultural perspectives on certain topics.

Manga depicting the daily life/religion/historical events/just culture overall of different parts of the world.

Doesn't include Japanese culture since most of the manga have a Japanese setting anyway.

Seinen manga is targeted to males, has action, philosophy, psychological elements, maybe some realistic romance.
That’s the common theme for this list. I will not include the popular shonen Naruto here, but will include Hunter x Hunter. That’s because HxH is dark and has deep philosophical themes. So that’s it!

Manga set largely outside East Asia, but on Earth.

A great manga has the ability to drag the readers into the story and make them experience what the characters are going through. Intense battle sequences will make you hold your breath in excitement while heartbreaking scenes will make you bawl your eyes out.

But there are times when you don't want to feel such deep emotions from manga. Sometimes you just want to sit back, relax, and enjoy the story. In that case, a wholesome manga that can make you smile throughout the story is the one you should read, and these are some selections of manga that can do just that.

Manga included are set in real historical settings & does not include those set in a made up world but may include fictional things in the setting.
