What an OP song! Eerie, stylish, and mixed with colorful chereography, just as I had expected.

After that story, Yoshiki, Hikaru, and others decided to investigate into the forest. Tbh, with all that's happening, anything is possible in this show. Definitely a chilling episode with ominous vibes. Outside of Hikaru though, the other characters are pretty normal, around the age of you'd expect from high school students. They probably should've prepared better than just following on some word of mouth story.

Vaundy NEVER misses. That OP was amazing.

Another great watch Just as good as the first episode and the direction might’ve been even better here. I said last week that Cygames are masters of atmosphere and they turned it up a notch in this ep. What really made it special was the camera placement and framing. The director did a great job of using these unique camera positions to add flair and character to scenes. It also frankly makes the show a lot scarier because it feels like we’re watching it from the pov of an entity that’s about to pop out

Big example is the forest scene with Yoshiki being pursued by the extremely fucking creepy spirit with the long neck. We see his POV and the POV of the spirit and it just creates this sense of unease, all the other shots of the blood cells and Hikaru absorbing it etc made that seen ever better. There’s also several other scenes like the nosey ass shopping clerk where we see it from the cctv perspective and when the other lady comes up to Yoshiki we see it from the angle with the bikes. It just makes you feel like something horrible is right around the corner. That’s what the best horror films do instead of relying on cheap jump scares so hats off to the staff.

Production values aside, a lot of good story and character stuff today. Last episode I was confused on who killed the only lady, now I’m pretty sure it was whatever Hikaru really is, probably realized the old lady recognized him and wanted to silence her. It begs the question wtf is he planning tho? Is it really just wanting to live among humans and have a life partner in Yoshiki but society won’t allow it? By the way, great analogy for same sex couples in rural Japan, nice writing.

Speaking of same sex stuff, “don’t look at anyone else, I’m the only one allowed inside of you” ummmmm I know what y’all are 😂 they turned the homoeroticism up in this one, especially that school scene omg. I love the allegory for sexual repression! Horny, but beautiful scene.

Such a great episode, left me with even more questions though. That one classmate is definitely sensitive to all the spirits and what not, I wonder if Hikaru will go after her next. Seems like his priority is going after anything or anyone that could separate he and Yoshiki!

Holy fuck that OP might genuinely be the best one of the season, and that's not even an over exaggeration, it is actually just that fucking good. No surprise that Ryouhei Takeshita did the SB and directed it. The second half is really good, with nice editing, smooth transitions, and some cool animation.

If there's one nitpick though, it's probably that the bloom is a bit too much, and the colors don’t look that great. Feels like a lot of OPs this season either use too much color or just have weird color choices. This one does that too, especially at the start and end, they don’t look very good.

The song though!! Was a bit disappointed on their SakaDays OP, but this is a great return to form. Favorite cut of the OP:

Would easily be OP of the year... in any other year that didn't have Shoushimin's ofc.

Content-wise, yeah, this is exactly what I came for. I actually got goosebumps at times. The direction really adds to the creepy vibe, especially that whole forest scene with the creature, just super eerie.

THIS IS SO SO GOOD!!!
Lots of good moments here :D I especially have to highlight the OP and ED, because they both look and sound great! I love the use of real life footage in the ED. I love when animators do that!!
That sudden cut to the real picture of marinated raw chicken made me laugh and I dont think that was the intention :sob: I saw a lot of people worried on how that scene would be adapted, and while I havent read the manga so I cant compare it seemed well adapted! :D

holy terrifying!!!! i was on the edge of my seat the whole time omg... the sound design and subtle motifs are actually bone chilling . its so incredible! it consistently builds a sense of unease only to snap away, like when hikaru's nose started bleeding. dont even get me started on the scene where yoshiki put his hand inside his chest- it's such a visceral feeling to want someone inside and between your ribs, and i feel like they captured it perfectly. the pleasure hikaru derived from it, his insides being described as marinated chicken only to cut to genuine meat was so raw and unsettling. and yoshiki unable to stop himself becuase even though this thing ISNT hikaru, it LOOKS and SOUNDS like him... ugh. disturbing love is the best kind

I think Yoshiki insert in a wrong hole but it doesn't matter as long as Hikaru is feeling good about it.

In previous episode half of comments are talking about similarities to Summertime Render and I'm like do people don't know Shiki anymore?

Holy another good episode.

OP and ED were great. I really liked the OP a lot though, super good. That forest is for sure cursed, whatever that tall ass, long hair ass white creature was, I don't want to ever see it in real life. I would just run and wouldn't stop running if I saw that coming towards me. I felt so weird when Yoshiki put his hand into Hikaru, that must've felt so weird. I was so weirded out by it that I had to look away for a second. Whatever that women saw when Yoshiki was going to his bike, must know a lot more things about everything about this. I wonder what she saw...

Again another very engrossing episode. Superb directing with great camera angle, visuals and that mix of irl shot to create a very tense and mysterious atmosphere that grabs you in. Genuinely impressed by the overall quality and hope the rest of the episodes will follow. Things got a bit weird/gross with Yoshiki putting his hand inside Hikaru part though. I'm really curious about the mystery. There seems to be people able to sense the bad thing/Nonuki sama/Hikaru to some extent. Also very curious about what Asako meant.

And the creepy atmosphere continues! I really love how this series is going so far, I really hope somehow Yoshiki finds a way to gather himself and actually accept that his friend is dead and there is no coming back from it. Whelp, I think, I did not read the manga so I am not sure how this will unfold, I just hope that they won't merge as that housewive said.

Such a good series.

another great episode following that strong opening! got into this anime while just vaguely hearing about it and i’m pleasantly surprised. It’s creepy, intriguing and knows how to keep and catch your attention. That was a bold metaphor with yoshiki reaching into hikaru’s body and only the second episode too 😭

I can't believe how invested I am in this. This has to be one of the most stunning, visually creative seasonal anime I've seen in a long time - it's up there with last season's Shoushimin S2 in terms of directing. I'm really hoping it manages to keep this level of quality up throughout, because this is seriously some next-level stuff.

This is peak horror. I don't want make a certain fandom that loves Mysteries mad at me, but this is how you introduce this stuff, the whole episode had this eery vibe, i don't know much of anything, what exactly is Hikaru, what is that company this guy is working for, i know what the company does but its still pretty much a Mystery. I stayed glued to the screen watching the episode, everything wa cinematic and overall a masterful execution, it also didn't shy from using elements to unsettle the viewer, like pictures to describe the "marinated chicken" image the mc described, the security cam footage, the suddle foreground elements moving and showing he is being observed, the direction and editing in this anime is top notch alongside some really good movie level animation quality.

We are being spoiled, I've yerned for an unsettling horror anime like this since i watched Aku no Hana, if this goes forward like that, this will likely be my AOTY without doubts.

Absolutely brilliant. This story is about way more than just 'creepy thing in the mountains'. Loved the imagery of the insects coming out, the scene of exploring Hikaru's insides by hand, the paranoid feeling of being under surveillance in the grocery store, the lady warning him about "getting too close to something real dangerous". Some things are only truly scary because of the stigma we associate them with.

Having that thing perceive the sensation of whatever that was as a headpat is a such a grotesquely hilarious way to play up how incomprehensible and alien it is.

It was really good! The opening and ending were really creative; though I didn't expect a disco ball ghost party 😭, meanwhile, the ending kind of gave away how much of the manga they will adapt in the first season. Loved the mix between animation and video. The episode was really intense, not even giving a moment to breathe. The forest scene was scarier than in the manga, but they really went above and beyond with the raw chicken scene. Background music that was seemingly supposed to be calm actually had a bit of creepy vibes to it. And they did amazing with portraying the conflicting emotions that scene had to give, something that should be intimate yet scary and disgusting. I love when horror doesn't limit itself to jumpscares and actually tries to introduce you to fear of the unnatural and unknown. I just hope people won't give it a low rating because they feel uncomfortable; horror is supposed to make you feel this way, so rating it low for actually doing a good job is unfair. If you are weak hearted and easily disturbed, you should just not interact with the horror genre at all instead of complaining that it isn't an easy, fun series

I hope everyone reading this has a good day/night. I'm excited for the next episode ❤️

The cinematography in this is actually phenomenal. Don't think I've ever seen anything as good as this in anime in that regard.

Although I must say, the softcore BL is really off-putting. It shifts the focus from the horror constantly and just does not fit with the rest of the show's vibe whatsoever.

This episode plus the opening and ending song were straight a 10/10 for me. I can't imagine a better adaption for the manga.

The shots were all so damn beautiful and at the same time extremely creative. The way the show gives you the feeling of exitement through the whole episode and creates a rollercoaster of emotions is insane. I felt like watching a movie. The use of real life pictures was so unique. The flashes and the last scene especially were artistic on another level with the cocoon. Whoever creates the storyboards and the opening/ending sequences needs a damn raise.

It's actually been a long time since i saw something THIS GOOD. And i watch MANY. Mor me this could be Anime and Opening of the year.

Ayo, the episode felt legit like 10 minutes.

Atmosphere goes a long way to captivate the audience and the directing here does an incredible job. Just for that it's worth watching. Overall definitely a very unique series.

OP and ED are great too.

The scene where Yoshiki puts his hand inside Hikaru was animated perfectly, I'm so happy! But it was even more unsettling, me being vegan and showing a dead corpse to describe a feeling was more revolting than anything... but I applaud the mangaka that knows how to make people feel disgusted, and does the same with the manga in a different way ❤️❤️

AAAAA Im loving it...
reading was one thing, but the direction is PERFECT, it keeps you on the edge because u never know if a situation is relieved with a laugh, brushed off with romance or ends up in murder. You can totally feel the Yoishiki's struggle and understand why he does what he does or even delays it, there's no real good decision so he postpones it until something goes wrong, he's selfish but he's human and lost someone, theres love and loss at play. ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE ❤️

(i got jumpscared by marinated chicken)
