The Jump Studio NEO stage for the new Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan (Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story) television anime announced a pair of additional cast on Sunday. The new anime series will premiere on Fuji TV's noitaminA programming block in 2023. Makoto Koichi (100-man no Inochi no Ue ni Ore wa Tatteiru) and Taku Yashiro (Enen no Shouboutai) are joining the cast as Yahiko Myoujin and Sanosuke Sagara, respectively. Hideyo Yamamoto (Strike the Blood) is directing the anime at LIDENFILMS. Hideyuki Kurata (Made in Abyss) is handling the series composition and Terumi Nishii (JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken Part 4: Diamond wa Kudakenai) is designing the characters. Yuu Takami (Rainbow: Nisha Rokubou no Shichinin) is composing the music. The anime adapts Nobuhiro Watsuki's historical samurai manga, which was serialized in Weekly Shounen Jump between 1994 and 1999. Watsuki and his wife Kaoru Kurosaki launched the Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan - Hokkaido-hen (Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido Arc) sequel manga in Jump SQ. in November 2016. Shueisha published the seventh volume on May 2, with the eighth volume scheduled for a January 4 release. The original television anime by Studio Deen and Gallop aired in 94 episodes from 1996 to 1998. Aniplex released a four-episode OVA the following year that served as a prequel to the television anime, followed by a two-episode sequel OVA in 2002. PV 2 Source: Comic Natalie |

Do you have a source that says it is going to adapt the Hokkaido arc? The fact that it's a remake/reboot of the original anime is plain from the trailers, but I've not seen anything indicating it will adapt Hokkaido as well, even if that is probably a reasonable assumption to make. |

I don't mind, as long as I don't have to read salty olds whining again like they did with Yatsura and Shaman King. I was surprised at how many people thought that the new Shaman King was a reboot of story and that all the changes were supposedly made by the producers. |

RobertBobert said: I heard that the end of the anime is very much anime original, but don't the first seasons of the anime adapt the manga pretty well? The manga has 3 major arcs, Tokyo, Kyoto, and Jinchu. The anime only adapted Tokyo and Kyoto. After Kyoto they began a filler season which sadly led to the anime being cancelled. I wouldn't say Tokyo was very well adapted. They made some unnecessary changes to certain stories, some good moments were censored for being too violent, there were various mediocre filler episodes interspersed with the canon ones, and many of the action scenes relied too heavily on stills and weren't very impressive animation-wise. They really upped for their game for the Kyoto arc, though, which was indeed a fantastic adaptation. There is almost zero chance that this remake is going to do Kyoto as well IMO. But I still hope they do it well enough, even if what I am most excited for is the prospect of finally seeing the Jinchu arc animated for the first time. |

Looks great so far, I’m just really nervous about the pacing. Are they going to pull a Shaman King (which I’ve heard many fans complain about it’s way too fast pacing), or an FMA Brotherhood? Maybe they can adapt Hokkaido down the line, as its 8th volume will release this January? |

I fear a Shaman King-esque adaptation is sadly possible, since this Rurouni Kenshin reboot is being done by Liden Films, whose track record isn't great, and indeed just a couple of years ago they adapted Blade of the Immortal in a very similar fashion to Shaman king: very condensed, with a rushed pacing and battles with little animation. But Rurouni Kenshin remains a big mainstream hit to this day, as seen by the performance of the live action movies, so I have some hope that they'll put more effort and budget into it. We'll see. |

I'm gonna say it: The only ethical way to watch this is by pirating, it may be ilegal but it's harmless and it's for a greater good, do not support a pedophile, he'll use your money to buy more CP, the money wont go to the animators, it will go to the investors, Jump, and Watsuki. You can enjoy a piece of art and not support it's creator, it's called separating art from the artist, no-one can stop Jump from being the no. 1 best selling magazine, which would also imply dragging good, innocent people like Yoshihiro Togashi (Yu Yu Hakusho and Hunter x Hunter), Hirohiko Araki (Jojo's) or Tite Kubo (Bleach) with him. If you live in japan but want to keep supporting jump, just lie about not reading Kenshin and push it to the bottom, hopefully it works. I'm still planning to read Kenshin, just on piracy sites. As for the mangaka who supported Watsuki in the art exhibicion, it depends, some are likely innocent and simply say he's a good artist who's work influenced them, possibly out of profesional obligation (likely Soichiro and Matsumoto), while others do support him. (Oda is most likely to be OK with Watsuki's literal mountains of CP) |
